Hilarious dance scene
22 March 2024
I loved Jack Lemmon and Judy Holliday in It Should Happen to You, and this film is almost as charming. The plot is simple, but the character development and relentless humor make it work, in my opinion. The supporting actor, Jack Carson, is convincing as the best friend/misogynistic smarmy boss and playboy. The mambo dance scene is a one not to be missed! Of course, Jack Lemmon was able to play a variety of characters, but he was great in comedies. Judy Holliday had a limited run due to her short life, but I became a fan and want to see everything she has done. I don't know where this movie has been on my life!

Interesting, with some moments of humor
28 December 2023
This is a drama that begins just before the US entered the first World War. I admit that I am a fan of historical fiction, and especially of the periods of the Industrial Age, Gilded Age, and up until the second World War. There are some scenes of war, but mostly it is about relationships. I remember enjoying it when it first came out, and I watched again near the end of 2023. I think it stands up as an interesting period drama, with some goofy Bill Murray mixed in from time to time, especially in the beginning. Murray's character is a restless young man, and there are a lot of scenes shot in Europe.

Great hoofing

It's not "Singing in the Rain" or one of Fred Astaire's classic musicals, but you can't beat some of the dance sequences in this movie--Donald O'Connor, Dan Dailey, and Mitzi Gaynor strut their stuff. There is an understandable storyline throughout the movie--a saga of the entertaining Donahue family. The family grows to five, and as expected, things change as the children become adults. I enjoyed some laugh out loud moments, especially with son Tim (Donald O'Connor). I guess some people are not a fan of Ethel Merman's voice or Marilyn Monroe's singing/acting? If you appreciate dance, don't miss this one!

Keeps you guessing

It is a mystery and a thriller from 1950. I have enjoyed Claudette Colbert and Robert Ryan in other movies, so I thought I would check it out. This story kept me interested and, yes, thrilled!

The book is great, too
3 April 2021
I was curious to read the book when one of my clients, a 6th grade girl, said she was enjoying Freak the Mighty in English class. It's for about that age range, but can be appreciated by adults, too. The movie did make some changes, but it was fabulously casted, and well done.

Funny and great dancing
7 March 2021
The dancing is impressive, and it is quite witty and funny. I had never heard of this film, but if you are a fan of Donald O, you will love it!

Surprisingly well done
13 December 2020
The story of Christ's resurrection is told from the point of view of a Roman soldier. It is well-acted and serious. My only complaint is their insinuation that Mary Magdalen was a prostitute, and that is not scriptural.

Hilarious and clever from beginning to end

I am so glad I decided to give this one a try. I was ready for some laughs, and I surely did laugh! There is an undercurrent of suspense which surprised me. The stunts are never-ending, too. Good, clean fun.

Fun literary mystery series for all ages
5 September 2020
For of all, I just reached "official" senior adult age. As many of the shows aimed for adults on Apple TV have a lot of profanity, I have tried out some of the shows for kids. This one was really a joy...I can't wait for more.

If you are in the mood for something thoughtful and real, this is a great choice. The views of national parks and monuments are a bonus.

Outstanding acting in a powerful movie
18 November 2017
This movie enthralled me from the beginning. The acting, across the board, is top- notch. Look for Ian Hart as a very different character than he played in the first Harry Potter movie (Professor Quirrell). I can't say enough about the lead characters. If you like learning about history, even the ugly parts, then see this movie. By the way, it is in English.

A charming movie
29 August 2017
This is one of my favorite romantic comedies. The leads are attractive and skillful actors. It has significant humor, but the focus is on the relationship of the leads. One gets a bit of education about life in current day India. There are no flashy special effects, steamy sex scenes, car chases, or bad language. I guess that's what some people have a problem with??
