Music and Lyrics (2007)
Granted Moore Laughs
Going in I said to my self please, give me more than just a romantic comedy with music used to fill a plot line. Well i got what i asked for. I am an involved fan of both Drew Barrymore and the entire romantic comedy genre, and i am use to typical Romadies, but recently marking movie releases like "Fever Pitch and "Because I said so". A change that is redefining the Romady gave me hope.
Drew's character seemed typical, starting of as just a woman coming in to water plants her hidden persona begins to unravel with in seconds free thought and clever rhyming spill from her lips causing Grants character, a washed up pop artist who hears her sing to ask her to use her writing skills to aid his career. the constant jokes and stereotypical parodied scenes of what a pop star is, makes for an incredibly funny movie. the even more interesting back story of why an talented writer turns her back on her gift was brilliant, the alter ego that was present in Barrymoores character flaw was extremely laughable. over all this movie is more funny than romantic and at times the singing us slightly annoying. But what is romance but a Song wrapped in a laugh and sailed down a sea of annoyance. you will love this one on a Friday with your honey.loll enjoy.
Zoom (2006)
Great family film
I had my doubt about Tim Allen in this one but he pulled it off, again. Now i can't wait for the Santa clause 3 to come out. the chemistry between Allen and the children was remarkable.Between the teen romance the plot, and the superpower plot and the fallen hero Concussion the movie has something for all ages. See this movie you'll love it it's classic Allen. That means always funny and lovable and sincere.Tim's classic humor shines in this film and will make you wan to get all seasons of home improvement on DVD.lol. The little girl and finally a good Courteney Cox Arquettecharactor on the big screen was most surprising of all. loved it!!!
The Illusionist (2006)
The illusions were the best part.
The illusions were top natch but going in i had expected they would be because it's 2006 and the Pepsi commercials have illusions in them. i admit i tapped into my inner child and aloud my self to ohhh... and aha... at the magic. I also caught my self snickering from time to time at Eisenheim's use of magic to be little his enemy and Chief Inspector Uhl who's constant need to figure out the illusion made me laugh.Although i'm sure it was not meant to be funny,Giamatti is hard not to giggle at.The plot was very predictable. and i do sometimes tire of seeing Rufus Sewell play what seems like the same character in over an estimation of ten films. but i would watch it again because it's not a bad film ,it's just a little of an equivalent to a Friday night TV movie or a straight to video release. You know that "just a movie" movie well this is it not much is special about it.If nothing else was on this is what you'd watch.
The Covenant (2006)
The movie does not let you down
The opening scene caught my attention, and kept it i found this movie continuously reminding me of a young Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric going head to head in "The lost boys", or Neo and Mr.Smith destroying public property in "the Matrix" fight scenes.this movie succeeded greatly with stunning imagery and special effects. the fighting scenes were done in a sloppy bar brawl type way but this fits the movie. the story line was OK but the rules of "the covenant" which were constantly mentioned were obsolete and rarely played a part in the film. That flaw did not hurt the movie any because the constant display of spells and witch craft draws the viewer in distracting you from anything else. It is amusing and will be a favorite among supernatural fans. i liked it over all.And also Steven Straight who's no stranger to having special powers in the film world was convincing as the team leader.
Huo Yuan Jia (2006)
He is truly the second coming of Bruce Lee
I cried from the powerful and stunning fights.Though brutal at times and letting his anger get the best of him, Huo is still the kind hearted fighter with his morals intact.Though the greatest warrior of China's history is troubled by his morals he becomes a hero with in his self by the end of the film. Stunning choreography by jet Li and amazing special effects. Touching story line and very authentic. I loved this movie for all it is Jet's last film is a master piece and should be acknowledged as a great film not as just a great fight film. It is timeless. this film deems his Chinese fan base praises as very true.He is Bruce Lee's successor in every way. Channeling his spirit to make this film because every fight scene had a little Bruce all over it. Go see it you won't be disappointed.
The Bedford Diaries (2006)
A Surprise And A Must See
At first glance the show seems just about sex, period. I was wrong and i'm glad. the show has a "My so called life" tone to it where there are sexual experiences involved but the characters are actually complex in the way that they learn from the intrigues and could have a interesting plots in the future because the show leaves so much to grow on. There's a lot of characters who aren't what you expect. The Hispanic promiscuous Zoe who is not at all how she seem and the beautiful Nicole who holds a past you wont see coming.the Professor played by Mathew Modine who i suspect has some learning of his own to do.And of course Gilmore girl famed Milo Ventimiglia who plays the News editor snobby rich kid delivers and satisfies, playing his character in a very settle tone unlike i have seen similar characters played in the past.
this is a refreshing taste of new dramas which lead away from typical standards and just go straight to the point this drama is a hit.check it out it is not what you think.
Fever Pitch (2005)
fever all through the night
The movie shocked me. Personally i had herd mostly bad buzz. Well finally after owning the DVD for months now i pooped it in on a sleepless night. though the movie did drag the extra footage was used with purpose the seriousness of his passion and his recovery from addition to the game would have been less realistic if they had left out any scenes. The best thing about the movie is it's consistency with the relationship. There were no ex's popping up or characters threatening the relationship. I mean typically we see the girl meets boy by some amazing twist of fate, they date, something we saw coming breaks them up up and then they get back together in the last five minutes of the movie. but this movie did not follow that mold. We actually experienced the relationship and it's flaws and though the characters did have there moments of anti-love they did not have dramatic pauses were they went off and did a montage every 15 and then reunite in love again. i did not feel the movie was as predictable as the rest of the romance movies. The story was unique and truthful to reality in the way that i felt these people in the film were the most believable that i have seen in a romance film from modern times. And it did not hurt that all the baseball games were real and they were at the actual world series so fate kicked in a little there also. It's no "My fair lady" but it is a spirited and honest film. I'll simply say i like it.
