Ittefaq (2017)
Great Beginning and Ending
Ittefaq opens up with an intriguing beginning and makes one interested in this cat and mouse game of finding the truth. This movie really is Akshaye Khanna's as his acting saved the second half of this film.
What starts out as an intriguing movie is actually one that becomes filled with plot holes that I personally believe would have helped to uncover what is true and what isn't.
The setting was extremely well done and the cast did a great job. I wanted to see a little more thorough investigating however the decent writing on delivering the climax of this film did good.
Recommended that you go into this blind and try to ignore some of the plot holes.
Mom (2017)
Sri Devi Steals the Spotlight as Mom
I think what makes Mom a little different from other films about gaining justice is the gray character of Devki and how far she's willing to go to make sure it happens.
The premise is quite clear and Devki remains to be a consistent character throughout the story. I would say that Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are good characters to the story and complement her well. However I still wished they had a little more screen time. Most of their appearances were just meant to bring out more of Devki's character.
The small amount of screen time that Sajal Ali had as Arya was enough to see that Arya was a pretty heart wrenching character. It was disappointing that she wasn't given more screen time because a lot of character growth could've been explored.
I would recommend this movie for Sri Devi's great performance as a determined mother willing to go to any lengths to gain justice. The songs weren't notable and the character of Devki tends to outshine the other characters in this movie.
Raabta (2017)
One of Bollywood's Worst Reincarnation Movies
After classics like Karan Arjun, Om Shanti Om, and Karz, it's safe enough to say that Bollywood has established a good set of movies on the topic of reincarnation. If the story, characters, and purpose of reincarnating are interesting enough then Bollywood reincarnation movies are always well worth the watch.
Unfortunately, Raabta is the worst Bollywood reincarnation film I've ever seen. During the last half I was fighting the urge to turn the movie off. It's quite obvious that it's meant to be a parallel of the Telugu film, Magadheera. While Magadheera was quite interesting, Raabta fails miserably.
The love story of Shiv and Saira was not enough to have me invested in them at all. And at times I even found Saira to be a flat character. Her actions were quite predictable and she didn't have that spark that most reincarnated characters have.
I don't even know where the begin with the historical setting. It was very terribly done. I'm not exactly sure what point in Indian history the director of this film was trying to show. The costume and look was not similar to those during the time period portrayed at all. Even that love story was dull for me.
I feel like Jim Sarbh's character was quite pointless. His character also didn't have that spark for me. His character was ridiculous in both the first life and the second one.
I would highly recommend fans of Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput to pass on this one. As talented as they are, they're not enough to save this movie. The only thing I would recommend is the movie's soundtrack which is available on YouTube.
Arundhati (2009)
A Great Movie with a Strong Female Lead and Villain
Compared to when this movie first came out in the year 2009, I do think that it's quite the gem.
This movie features a female lead without all of the romance. Looking at the priorities of the main lead was quite refreshing (compared to some movies where the female lead tends to rely quite a bit on the male lead).
The plot and acting of all the characters is probably one of the best. It was one of those rare times where the villain impressed me as much as the main character.
The VFX and graphics weren't as impressive but the plot and characters should be more than enough for that to be overlooked.
I would recommend watching this if you want to find an intriguing supernatural story with a fantastic female lead and villain.
