Mortal Kombat (2021)
VERY VERY SOLID
Does a great job of setting up for the next two films. Great fight scenes, decent stories with just the right amount of cheese. It's better than the original film, but not as good as the YouTube mini series which was it does that and more.
The cast is solid and the Scorpion/Sub Zero story is great. Music is good. No-one feels like the lead in the film, but Kano is a standout in this one. Good to see a mix of different languages and accents as well. Effects are really nice as well.
If you come in with an open mind looking to be entertained you'll really really enjoy this. If you are expecting an Oscar, dont.
Zog (2018)
A Joy
An absolutely wonderful piece of TV to watch with your children. Funny and creative. Animation is great. Voices too. Hope they do more than two. Love them both.
El hoyo (2019)
Cube rebadged
I really enjoyed the film is as you couldn't really predict what would happen next. It feels like the script writer watched Cube then wrote an updated version with a different setting. Much like how Breaking Bad lifts from The Shield.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Worst episode of the whole programme
Worst of the series, worst of the whole programme. The invincible night king...Jesus wept. I reckon hot pie could take him.
Ibiza (2018)
Zoned out
This film is truly awful. It starts off OK and has a couple of funny bits but basically it's a very poor rehash of nineties and early noughties films where everything ends up fine i.e. 'Hollywood Ending'. It is cringeworthy in places and the acting is poor throughout. I would recommend not watching this. However the music is quite good.
True Detective (2014)
Slow burner into a forest fire
The first thing to say is that you have to give it 2 episodes to set the scene. I watched the whole series over a period of a week. I don't think I would have watched episode 2 after episode 1 if watching on TV. This is the sort of thing I like. A crime thriller with a healthy dose of the real world in terms of the crimes. If you enjoy programmes such as Ripper Street and The Shield, Breaking Bad, you should give this a go, but my advice is if you are not interested after 3 episodes to give it up. I have to say though that I was disappointed with the ending. It was not as disappointing as the ending of Breaking Bad but it was still too nice and Hollywood. I still give this series 9/10 and you're never going to please all the viewers 100%. Well done on the script and especially the casting. I love Woody.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Number 3 for me
This is a fantastic series and if you give it 3 episodes you'll be addicted. The changes within the characters throughout the series' is brilliant but myself I found the ending incredibly predictable and disappointing. This is what stopped it getting a 10/10 from me. The tension and cliffhangers leave you wanting more and I myself spent 3 weeks watching the episodes back to back between working. This programme doesn't really have a target audience because everything about it is so good. Basically if you're not into it after 3 episodes stop watching. Second only to my number 2 GOT (but you have to like the genre) and my number 1 'The Shield' which has numerous themes used in Breaking BAd.
Ripper Street (2012)
Addictive, Exciting, Surprising
This is a show to rival the shows from The States which have been dominating our TV viewing. It's not quite the level of Breaking Bad or my personal favourite 'The Shield' but it is certainly just as good as Boardwalk or TWD. I love Jerome Flyn and he plays a great character in this show. I like the Ripper genre but the fact that this doesn't focus directly on the Ripper and more the time and crime happening around that time makes it great viewing. I struggle to understand some of the other reviews here. I can understand someone not enjoying it but this is not a 5/10 programme. You'll love it or be bored to tears but my general view is to look on IMDb-over 6/10 and it's worth a watch, 7/10 should be decent and 8/10+ you'll find some gems.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
This film is a basic storyline of geek to hero but is so funny all the way through
This is the greatest film ever for people who are weird and like weird random comedy. If you like this you will like envy and a series called peep show. The acting is so dead pan in places that the comedy just ooooooozes. The unsung hero is the martial arts instructor played by diedrich bader who also has a cameo in Jay and silent bob strike back. It is quite easy to see why a lot of people will not like this film as they will not get the comedy. It is very much a marmite film so love it or hate hate it you will know with in the first 30 seconds of the film because that sets the standard for the next 90 minutes. I only heard about this film through my friend michelle derosier and finally got round to buying it as she is a weirdo like me and it is very much power to the geek.
