Jet Boy (2001)
Touching film
Let me start by saying: yes, it's got its corny parts. Yes, it's cliché as all get out.
But it's got some amazing acting, and there are four or five moments throughout that just make you feel like your heart shattered into a million pieces.
Nathan is a fourteen year old boy, who sells himself to feed his mother's drug habit -the movie starts on the day of his fourteenth birthday, leading to what is easily one of the most heart wrenching moments I've seen in a movie for a while.
After 'working' the night before, Nathan goes to school, then returns home, where a neighbor lady complains to him about the noise from his mother's party the previous night, for which Nathan apologizes, and the lady kindly tells him that it's him she feels sorry for. After he starts to walk away, there's this moment of hesitation, before he turns, and tells the lady that it's his birthday. It's such an innocent moment, seeing this kid desperately wanting somebody to know that he's made it fourteen years; that he's still alive. And honestly, it almost made me cry.
And that's what makes this movie memorable; that's what makes it such a gem. Instead of big name actors, massive CGI effects, car chases, and one-liners for cheap laughs... it actually evokes strong emotions in you.
Jurassic World (2015)
Enjoy it for what it is
Most of the negative views I've seen yell about one of two things: nothing new to the movie (rehash of the originals, with minuscule changes), or that it was too unrealistic.
To both of these criticisms I say... Duh. It's a movie about humans recreating (or rebreeding? Rehatching?) dinosaurs in a laboratory. There's sort of minimal differences to make, and expecting realism in a movie about breeding dinosaurs is asking a little much, in my opinion.
It's a decent movie. It's got its funny moments, its eye candy for everybody, the plot isn't awful, the dinosaurs look pretty cool, and we even get to see Mr. Rex from the first movie pop up again.
It wasn't meant to be some great big thriller; it wasn't meant to keep you wondering what was going to happen. It was supposed to be a movie you could veg to, relax, and just enjoy. Which in today's era of preachiness, was pretty nice.
Bones (2005)
Started off decent, went down hill in a hurry
Where to begin...
When I first started watching this, back in 2010 I believe, it was a decent show. Nothing amazing, nothing to get all hyped up and excited over, but a solidly decent show.
Which, hey... with TV shows being what they have been for the past fifteen years? That's respectable.
The biggest flaws the early seasons had was the technology; everything could be figured out, with amazing, Star Trek-esque technology. Every crime could be solved this way, no matter what.
But the characters were lovable; they were funny, and yeah, maybe a bit cliché, but they had some great points to them, with just enough seriousness and angst thrown in to keep you hooked.
And obviously, Brennan+Booth was a huge thing; everybody was waiting, waiting, waiting for them to get together. To reveal that they truly loved each other, and were meant to be together forever and ever.
Then the producers did it. Brennan and Booth became Brennan/Booth. And the show went downhill fast after that. Everything changed, from the characters themselves, to the settings, to the feel of the show in general. I stopped watching a few months after that, as it literally lost all interest to me. Not that I hated it... I just couldn't care enough to watch it anymore.
