Whatever, Linda (2015)
A stunning female-centric drama that keep you on your toes
I have to say, I LOVE THIS. I can't really honestly think of anything that I would change or fault here. This was entertaining, witty, well shot, well acted, well written - the whole package! After watching it online I Googled the series and found some articles from a couple of years ago saying that it is in development for TV, which is exciting! But I have yet to see any updates there... Here's hoping! Congrats to the team that pull this awesome series off. I raise my oversize wine of glass to YOU!
Murdoch Mysteries (2008)
One of the best Canadian TV series EVER!
Although many people write off Canadian TV as poor quality or not worth their attention, I think it's always important to see the bigger picture. Canada is a big country with over 30 million people. They may make some bad shows, but, they also make GREAT shows. And Murdoch Mysteries is one of them. It wouldn't be running for this long if it wasn't. From the charismatic cast members, to the slick visuals, and the fun story lines, this show rarely disappoints.
Slasher (2016)
Very decent, if not forgettable, horror show
I enjoy this show. It's nothing groundbreaking and is slightly forgettable at times, but it still remains very decent. I have watched every episode and really enjoy the acting and most of the cinematography and directing in the show. Sometimes, the writing feels a bit clunky, but it's nothing to sob over. Check it out if you like "Slasher" horror! ...get it?
The Carmilla Movie (2017)
Mediocre but heartwarming for fans of the series
I saw this at the theatre last year and just re-watched it this week on my computer. As someone who was a big fan of the first season of the series as a teenager, this film feels special to me, and since I already love the characters, seeing them again on the big screen, and in a new environment, was exciting and fun. That being said, some of the classic pitfalls of Carmilla are here -- some cheesy dialog, questionable cinematography, etc. But, if you're already a fan of the series, you're sure to enjoy this! 8/10
Couple-ish (2015)
Decent web series that could have been tighter
I love Kaitlyn Alexander and by default, love this show. It could definitely benefit from some tightening up in terms of plot and maybe even the number of episodes, but for fans of Alexander, this will be a fun watch. I didn't love the direction the new season went in (without spoiling anything, the over-arching stakes of the new season never quite...made sense?) but I still loved certain moments between Alexander and her cast mates. Admittedly, Sharon was probably a low point acting-wise. I never quite bought her accent and because of that, her performance always felt like...well, a performance. Alexander is great, though sometimes I do feel like she is holding back laughter which distracts the viewer a bit (I blame her YouTube channel). The music, graphics, and editing are all well done, too. Congrats to the Coupleish team, looking forward to whatever you guys do next! Recommend for fans of Kaitlyn Alexander and anyone looking for some not-too-thought-heavy fun.
Almost Adults (2016)
Well-meaning film that constantly stumbles
I was really excited to watch this film because I am a huge fan of the Gay Women Channel. I watched it on Netflix tonight and have to say I feel empty after finishing it... And not in a good way. The two lead performances (by Carmilla's own Elise Baumen and Natasha Negovanlis) were good, not great, and they made the most of what they had, script-wise. It almost felt like it would have worked better as a YouTube series or something serialized. The story sort of petered off and then went no where... It was also sort of off-putting to see Natasha and Elise in this situation, honestly... It was hard to believe. The stakes were never quite high enough to earn their dramatic performances. Looking forward to what all of these artists do next. Liked it, but definitely didn't love it.
