All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Awe Inspiring,Gripping and The Best Series I Have Seen for 2023
I have not read the book nor been aware that this series was due for release. Up until a day before it's Netflix release, I saw the trailer and was drawn into this awe inspiring series with its beautiful set design, cinematography and everything put into this story.
It had me captivated from start to finish and the performances more notably of Aria Mia Loberti is worth a special mention for a novice who has never acted and also being blind. Her performance is worthy of a well deserved Emmy Nomination or an award.
Having not lived in the war, but rather in the height of Apartheid in South Africa. This story has renewed hope in my heart and being able to once again be reminded that we can have hope amidst war or any adversity.
Shawn Levy and team you have delivered a series which I will say was the best I have watched in 2023.
Short Wave 13/10 Bravo Bravo Bravo.
Gran Turismo (2023)
Fun Filled Ride.
I had my doubts hearing that another game has been made into a movie. Upon watching the trailer a few weeks ago something just said. Watch it. I may have played the first edition of Gran Turismo but the movie is indeed worth a watch for a good night out. Racing scenes are awesome. It should be better in IMAX. Overall a solid movie with solid performances all around. It is definitely not a traditional gaming movie or Fast X. It in some ways reminded me of Ford VS Ferrari. Indeed one of the better movies of the year to cap of a great US Summer of movies. If you love the game then it is definitely one to see.
Raaiselkind (2017)
One Gripping Story
I've haven't in recent times taken SA movies seriously. I watched this movie and what a gripping movie from start to end. Diaan Lawrenson gives a performance worthy of an Oscar. The challenges of Autism is real and the support needed around parents is indeed vital. If you have or know someone facing a struggle with an Autistic child this is indeed a movie to give some insight. Definitely a must watch. It takes you deeper into issues if trauma, stress and how a lack of support systems can have dire consequences emotionally and personally within your life, your family and many around you. A definite win for South African cinema.
Joker (2019)
A Cinematic Masterpiece
Slow, watchful and an amazing evolution of a villain who is wonderfully portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix.
He embraces the role and owns it. Robert De Niro packs in a powerful performance as well.
A Movie worth watching with an open perspective. Here's to a best picture and best actor nomination. No Doubt
Blinded by the Light (2019)
Don't be Caught Dancing in The Dark for not watching this.....
Brilliant Piece of Cinema work in an absolute Feel Good Movie aided by a Brilliant Soundtrack if you are a child of the 80s. Fun lovable movie that brings some realities of life into perspective and the real joy of achieving what's possible
Glass (2019)
Epic Ending to A Masterful Trilogy
I spent today watching Unbreakable early morning. Split the afternoon then rushed off to watch Glass. With the climax of Splits ending this really brought about an excitement to see Glass. Boy Oh Boy was my wife and I completely blow away by a smart intense and action packed movie that it belw our minds. James Macavoy is absolutely brilliant. Bruce Willis and Samuel L blow this off the chain. Definitely the best of 2019 thus far. Definitely not Avengers but this kick some serious ass.
