Star Trek: Discovery: That Hope Is You, Part 2 (2021)
STD is what it is. STD so don't practice it by watching.
There are so much that this muppet show doesn't bring. A kermit female leader of the Emerald Chain barks like a bull frog and is a empty shell compared to serious threats like Borgs, Q, Jem Hadar. Writers that only follow the demand from company chain of command. No freedom or else completely lack of creativity or even worse they follow politics and the rainbow earth politics of today. Utter garbage.
Was it worth to wait 13 episodes for this to happen? No, as we already got the answer in episode 3 or 4 i this season. The plot is so weak and fabricated no previous ST series can go this low. For example the technology behind STD's turbo lift is shown, but not explained. Why?
Why bother show us the scenes behind the turbo lift if you aren't prepared to explain how it work and fits in the compressed hull of STD. Same goes to why a humanoid is the only organism that can venture into a hazard section where the pontoons are connected. How about the ship repair robots? They did go there and most likely the robots could save the day without loosing oxygen and die trying.
Do I have to mention MB? Yes, She will be back in S4. It's up to you if you want to continue to watch. I stop here. I have better sci fi series to watch.
Still I can't say I have got any closer to any of the crew members. A few I can recall by name, but got nothing more. Every character is flat and without a story.
To all of you out there. It's easy to find better sci fi shows and that are better Star Trek compared to this.
Star Trek: Discovery: There Is a Tide... (2020)
CGI but no soul left. Bad writers.
This is a high cost cgi production with a bad execution. Writers are full of it and don't understand ST at all. Again the MB whisperer saves the day while crying. I've watched amateur ST fan movies with a fraction of this budget and fans still keeps the ST soul intact.
Loosing the ship and attempting regain control of it is a commanders prime tasks for a captain. Tilly is uncreative finding a solution and chooses frontal assault to get the ship back. Choosing such way is bad leadership and again writers have no clue how military ops works. Sacrificing her best officers to reach the bridge and then what? The best move imo would be sabotage and wreck anything that makes the ship move and breath. Keeping crew alive at all costs. Tilly must know they are within the federation zone of control and not alone. Writers to blame again for lack of research and tactical knowledge.
In this episode there is a new scientist placed in a floating wheelchair in the science bay. At some point this person get stunned and a few moments later the same scientist are awake and kicking at the bridge with no explanation how and when the person was moved. Bad scripting and production. Same goes with the green lady. There's no explanation how much time spent on travelling between federation HQ and Discovery since we are told by the same green lady they blocked personal transporters. So where are the cutscenes that explains there is a time spend on travelling? That time all her crew stand still on Discovery telling prisoners to shut up and do nothing else???
When I take a step back and look at this episode it's almost like watching a puppeteer show and all characters are just doing poor acting and without any inspiration to what they are doing.
Sadly I've noticed Season 4 are already approved and in production, so more MB and probably same writers. The mess continues.
Star Trek: Discovery: Su'Kal (2020)
You thought you already watched the worst episode.
The crew are all at some level experienced in leadership, tactics and strategy. I personally could make a better story out of this without hesitation. It's so very bad to watch.
Let number one at least show some degree of leadership. For over 30 minutes or even more the Discovery crew just sits and wait for a response from the away team knowing there is a bigger threat just beside them.
No action from Tilly. Then she tries to explain human psychology to a different humanoid race and hope that would be a strong point. Writers should be fired asap. Tilly is in this episode not the worst. The rest of the crew is, since they accepted her position without any protest.
No action in defending vital systems on Discovery. The only thing Tilly do is waiting for the coffee machine to recharge itself while smiling like a clown. I'm no military person, but I feel sorry for all such staff that gets humiliated like this.
and then pirates arrived and stole the gold.
To the producers - Cancel this show
Star Trek: Discovery: Unification III (2020)
What's going on? nothing really....
The goal in this show is for sure not to make a Star Trek adventure the way fans expect. Discovery is a ship with very low quality leaders. There are allot of followers but very few want the responsibility to actually lead. Poor Saru dealing with such crew. He now needs to rely on a person with .... not so very great leader skills.
Ofc, The Burnham show, had to whine and cry a bit this episode too. But in the end there wasn't actually much to view this episode.
Overall this episode did deliver some fragments out of the ordinary. I must say the episode became so much better the moment Leonard Nimoy was on screen.
Those few seconds was better than the first and second season combined.
I'm not to say this episode is a filler, but it never got up to speed. Some crap conversations and bad acting.
Star Trek: Discovery: Scavengers (2020)
Old school sci fi tech once more.
Big production budget, but less quality. We watched the Wedlock tech on screen back in 1991. This episode doesn't bring anything to the table that feels new and exiting. The Burnham show is about a crybaby that lack a commanders skill and leadership. Story wise this is totally mayhem to any star trek universe.
Let Burnham travel through another wormhole and let that be the end of that character. If so the Crew of Discovery can get a fighting chance to keep the season alive. Is there a reason why this character need so much focus?
There are so much tech that get refurbished without explanation. Characters that instantly understands quantum mechanics and beats the 'navigator' in spore drives in engineering skills. Without ease and from thin air invent a complete new interface in how to control navigation and use the interface between human and machine. That's a producers 15 sec Star Trek work on screen. Another 15 sec is the silly learning curve the officers have using the new tech mobile screens. 10 sec after they got the new tool they became masters and experts. Relearning a 950 years old tech brain in the future doesn't look that much of a big deal.
There must be some real life contract that demands that every episode focus on the character Burnham. It kills the show and is also a bad production call. If not other crew members have their 15 minutes of screen time the ship and the crew are more or less pointless to have around. Lifeless actors and without any reason to go to work. As long as Burnham steals the room the show is crap. Remove Burnham and rewrite the ending of this season.
Not worth to watch a second time.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 12: The Siege (2020)
Everything can't go downhill
Wow!
Right on target. Short, the main mission is on track and the detour back to a friendly port is not bad. The episode mission is ofc in best Star Wars way. A base and some storm troopers to fight. Amazing evidence why speeder bikes rule on flat surface but lack the tech to go downhill without trouble.
This episode is by far the most interesting one because so many new character stories get started and revealed. There are so much going on in this episode I hope the future ones keeps its focus and quality.
Gina Carano improves her acting skills. As Cara Dune The Marshal she ends being a fighting sidekick and starts be part of the main story. Also brings a start of a dark interesting untold story about Alderaan. There is a different glow in Ginas acting in this episode and it's only for the better. Keep up the good work Gina!
Watch the episode and enjoy the action!
The Mandalorian: Chapter 10: The Passenger (2020)
The episode wing it further into space..
Well, Even though it might not be the most focused episode along the path to explain what and why the Mandalorian decides the way they do, some thoughts are given to the new worlds politics and how the overall people struggles to survive. I find it creative that producers have described that in an easy way between the hard path to identify friends from foes. With some wings patrolling we learn how new encounters are dealt with.
Strangely I wonder how this little kid still explores the world not understanding lifeforms consider its species is based on mental strength and controlling emotions. How can it not sense stealing and eating the wrong stuff leads to bad things? Well, What's a story if there aren't lots of mistakes and action involved.
Another good thing is the reality in the facts that ships takes damage and are weak in general. This episode tells us how hard it is to get some help and diplomacy is valuable skill for survival on any planet. The Mandalorian is a true survivalist and problem solving is part of their mantra I believe.
At least it was great to see the story goes on and they are back on track slow going. The big question is how and where we did learn the language of fish. The were no translators, so there must be some dictionary around.
A well put together episode.
Star Trek: Discovery: Forget Me Not (2020)
A filler with a taste of a Minority report
Wow, what a waste of subscribers money. S3E4 and I still don't remember any crew but perhaps 3-4 others but Burnham, Tily and Saru.
Anyhow. Why is this episode produced at all? Yes, any adventure to find a good starmap to get to the rest of the federation collective would have been better than this garbage. Tom cruise and his mind readers are a close copy of floating about in a milky pool of memories or thoughts like this this squids.
Nah, No Star Trek at all. Only studio production at the lowest level. waste of everyone's time, tbh.
Star Trek: Discovery: That Hope Is You, Part 1 (2020)
Episode provides a lesson how to deal with user reviews from the past.
And so it begins. STD season 3. CGI is massive to prevent viewers to complain it's not a sci-fi story. Expected background check to tell us what they did in season 2.
Now what? The plot from season 2 was a bit weak and to save STD from total collapse some kind of reboot is needed.
Well, What can we expect when Alice jumps the rabbit hole?
So here starts Season 3. Handing out some loose threads to bind the plot for some episodes and watch a book or two to make the team build. With no compass and lack of a good map the surroundings feels like season 1. I kinda smelled the U-turn and vomited.
Conclusion is; if users review is hard devs crawl back into the turtle shell and hide.
Well, is it a good episode?
It's as good as it can be considering the plot.
Is it saving the series?
To early to tell, but a weak crying main character doesn't help much.
Can the season become better than the previous ones?
STD is under the spell of investors, so most likely not.
Will more fans join now?
Star Trek always bring new fans to the crowd. STD will do it too. Although I'm not the greatest person to accept changes to the universe, but the series also reflects the real life politics around the world.
Is this episode waste of your time?
I'd say no.
Photo is good.
Characters still lack performance and depth.
Well use of green screen.
Action scenes are expected.
Star Trek: Discovery: Perpetual Infinity (2019)
Another wasted hour
Distilled the story and episode lasts for like 5 minutes. The other 55 minutes you watch the main character whine, cry and do all previous and boring stuff. Sadly the producers like a whining B instead of actually telling a story. I did a comparison to space 1999 and even such old show contained a better story than this garbage. Skip this episode, it's only a filler.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Red Angel (2019)
Expected failure
CGI effects somewhat accepted compared with other work done today, but that's all there is. Bad acting, lousy story and worst of all producers that allow this to continue.
Star Trek?
Bah, humbug!
The Orville: Identity, Part II (2019)
Awesome!
Wow! This is honestly the best part 2 episode outcome of this adventure. Superb way to tie up the loose ends from season one and also open up for new great stories for season three.
Capt. Mercers leadership gets proven several times in this episode and it really show how hard it is to make right decisions. Very few TV-shows allow to show consequences when things go wrong. The Orville handle the situation and all the crew take a heavy beating fighting their way to freedom again. The way they do it must be seen, not told. Watch the episode and enjoy it!
From this episode the universe of The Orville expands and provides a greater ground for new adventures. New allies will arise and the borders of the federation will expand further. All in all this episode is the game changer that takes The Orville into the TV shows we will watch for a long time.
Star Trek: Discovery: An Obol for Charon (2019)
Kudos for Cgi, but that's all...
The Salamander stays on ground and we all gained some extra 100k years of memories? This was another wasted filler episode of STD awfulness. The human capacity to survive lightning bolts are awesome on STD. No logic there, only filler cgi.
Why spend a whole episode on a attempt to get a logbook from something to gain old tales from the past? Unless it has some greater impact on the series this was completely dull and uninteresting.
And again we find ourselves listening to some old earth music from the STD past. Are all crewmembers with earth origin stuck with music from the 20th century, no creativity there. No opportunity for new creative music groups to enter the scene and provide some fresh music ideas for the future to come.
The only consistent is the hunt for Spock. This will probably continue the rest of the season. They could more or less provide us with that encounter already considering the rest is filler. Jumping between some silly Klingon episodes and this is not helping the series at all.
Well, kudos to all CGI effects. At least they are somewhat better and probably the only thing that keeps people watching the show. Remove that and everything taste like garbage.
Sadly to admit STD is not improving and how they try to find a way to reinvent Star Trek universe this show fails.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.
Seth is just the person that revamps the trekking concept. All new characters are finding their posts and in this episode love really bites the ship hard. I totally agree with all here that this was some great episode. At first it was expected and fun. Later on it kinda exploded in a teenage love affair seeking advice from all friends, etc. Hilarious and probably the reason all watchers love this episode. It was realistic and great. The end was classic and spot on perfect.
Very few times have you watched a TV episode and left with a happy smile and great positive thoughts. See it and feel it.
The Orville truly take up the challenge in being the best Sci-fi show on TV in 2019. Nominate this episode being the best so far.
The Orville: Ja'loja (2018)
In space we Ja'loja too!
Awesome episode. Reason? Easy explained.
This episode show the everyday life onbored The Orbille and what actually goes on when boredom kicks in. Nothing happens and no special events or targets needs to be investigated nor explored.
Look at this episode like some easy going ' behind the scenes' show and it's all I expected from a Season 2, episode 1.
Why is there such episode? Well, consider this facts. We get a couple of new characters introduced and a few from season one, technician Dann, that got a bit more upgraded role on the ship. We learned from Season one how the restaurant looked like, but less of the staff that worked there. In season two we need those people introduced somehow and this episode was perfect for it. This episode also gives Isaac a new face and bonds with his new family further.
Furthermore it also solves the issue from season one between the captain and the commander that might have crashed the series completely. The chain of command is intact and characters can still work side by side without make the series something like a episode from 'Days of Our Lives' or something worse.
In short, we need this episode for the future episodes to come. Some threads are ending and new ones are spun. I find this episode brilliant for that reason. Now we can expect in the next episode an more tight Sci-fi adventure and all characters can start acting accordingly.
Alien Predator (2018)
A little more preparation and character needed.
I personally didn't realise this movie reached imdb database. Well, by doing so we need to rate it properly.
Compared to some greater movies under the same category this movie haven't got much of interest. To action paced movie critics that like close combat action this is a disaster. No research done how to move, control weaponry and most important the lack of camouflage. Camera technique is bad and close to a tourist level. The budget must have been slim to none and it shows.
Story-wise the movie is simple, like all predator movies are, so not much wrong there. A group of combat trained soldiers enters an insecure area and face a horrible predator with awesome strength. The heroes later on enters the arena and the movie ends when the conflict is over.
What is good in this movie? Well, very little. I assume the budget is small and with that in mind they have balanced it well between CGI effects, photo and casting. The actor do need allot more training and education in how to get into character.
Is it worth watching? Tbh, no. For educational purpose, yes, to understand how much work there is to make a great movie.
Star Trek: Discovery: Will You Take My Hand? (2018)
Thank you for the show, pls never return.
What a pile of boredom. So much effort to get to the point where medals are handed out, for what?
The trip to the mirrored universe was stashed in a vault never to be discussed again, so no medals there. Well, STD did find a new way to travel, but can it be replicated? Medal to the engineer that used up the spore and got himself a legal garden of his own to grow his drugs.
But what about characters? Well, to be honest I can't say much about them as they never got much history told about them. Two MU captains that are of no interest and a deserter that the producers try to re-establish as a commander of STD. ahm, never mind. This episode was such bore I can't even plot the new course of action.
So what pushes the show forth in this episode?
well, nothing really. More talk about nothing and a bomb planted, but wont explode as the good federation decides. A taste of a trading post and Tilly returns to her natural state of mind, now with drugs. Wonder if producers thought it was a good thing to make comedy being stoned by drugs. Hopefully it is a mistake.
Now all power girls are leading the bridge and what became of all boys? Well, there aren't none left, are there? The only guy standing got mental and left for a Klingon. So when do we find the next man entering the bridge? We've got a neutral and a girl in medical/engineering and at the bridge no man in sight. Feminism and discrimination at best in STD. A medal of honour for that.
Science fiction is not a focus in this show, so Trekking is boring according to producers. Well go fish I'd say. I hoped for some cool places and new fresh tech stuff explained, but got a half space action with loads of dull moments and a glimpse of what could have been.
At least they closed the book in this episode and can if they want never return, but sadly we all now a second season is on it's way and it wont be better.
Star Trek: Discovery: The War Without, the War Within (2018)
Nope you didn't make it!
Some say in paradise the pain will dissolve into peaceful thoughts. This episode is just the opposite.
We now know the spores are back to get beaten down again eventually. Spore drives will in a future episode end. This is a fact. Deal with it.
We know whomever we trust from a mirrored universe they will eventually turn against us. The federation do have some issues in leadership when they always promote a bad person to the captains chair. Manuscript is flawed and uninventive. Now the samurai is back leading the vessel. Can we expect from the teaser of the next season finale a conflict? ofc, we can.
Security/Klingon officer is whining in a corner and is broken. Why Klingons speak Russian/American accent is a no brainier. Wouldn't it be more interesting if Klingons spoke some Jamaican accent instead? - Hai, man. Let us blo' up some fa'daration stations.
oki, spoilers. The episode terraforms a planet in like 10 minutes? Well, it started as a sci-fi show and now we are close to magic powers. Will we soon see elves spawn from sareks world too?
Federation protocol also call upon sane captains and leaders. wow, that works. The only creature still sane is Saru, the tall dude. Even if he now knows his race are slaves in a mirrored universe he still the best leader on the vessel. The other are so brutally scripted they are lost in translation.
Then massive conversations to explain and repair all damage done to the ST universe. How do we explain the side track to a Mirrored universe? Well, we're not. We're doing it the easy way and classify the hell out of the mission and tell anyone about it. in a conference room and 2 minutes later we have put a lid on the seven earlier episodes and thrown them in a round trash can. well, we suffer. Let's move on.
What's left of the debris? One starship STD that will eventually destroy Kronos and we'll all go home happy. Yup, waste of time and won't watch a rerun of the show.
Star Trek: Discovery: What's Past Is Prologue (2018)
And then there was the end of the thread
Wow, this episode brings lots of action and most of all the desperation to knot together all loose ends of this brittle manuscript. Looking back, how a classic ST episode with a long season story would be, there are nothing left when you compare that framework to STD. Today we have to accept a mesh of brutal killings and lots of excessive violence that aren't needed to explain or to visualize the story.
Even if the camera bring great photo and the action can't hide the violence the episode is still a mess and lots of scenes are badly executed. There are so much going on the ST feeling is completely left out or forgotten. Yes, great space action, but less ST.
Hopefully this episode will end the side track of Mirror, Mirror and perhaps STD can return to something that is more normal space and continue to build the story. We can only hope the tall acting commander stays and the previous never returns.
nah, this episode tries too much again to save the day and fails completely.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Wolf Inside (2018)
Plastic and clueless performance.
This far into the series you would expect the main cast to understand their character they play. In some ways you can't blame them either when producers and investors like to bring too much bling into the show. This is the 2nd episode in the MU and now we get loads of small bit of nothing thrown at us. For some reason it is important to yapping about all characters alter egos throughout the episode. This takes like half the episode. Neither of the actors express any feelings nor depths to their characters . Still I can't figure out why the doc is not solving anything fast in a true ST manner. Whitey is lost and the Red now continues as the doc, so what? Are either of them interesting enough to ask for more info about them?, _Naah!
Yes, of c. we got like 10 minutes left to tell viewers we bring the mighty Wolf in this episode and then we got rid of his clan. Episode ends. wow, that was some wasted minutes of my life. oh, the dead walks in the MU, I almost forgot to mention that. Mirror, mirror rebooted from the TOS all the way, but still TOS version is better.
Star Trek: Discovery: Lethe (2017)
What great cost to produce a sack of awfulness
Generations of viewers have lived in the realm of Star Trek to find their own passion in how to become a true Trekkie. We can wonder if any of the producers are a fraction of that concept considering the present episode and the series in total.
I've tried my hardest to accept the fresh reboot of Star Trek Discovery. Now after six episodes there are too much of everything but the spirit of Star Trek. This is something else. Focus is not about the adventure nor the characters and absolutely not about the storytelling. This is purely about greed and leach the cult of Star Trek to get an extra buck or two. This will fail and I personally hope the 2nd season won't arrive to save the next generation of Trekkies the pain.
This episode proves the fact. Stop this now and spend the rest of the budget on a comedy show or some food TV.
The Gifted (2017)
The few outcasts amongst the living are heroes once more
For all fans out there loving the Heroes series The Gifted will be a great follow up in the realm of X.
Amy Acker is an amazing actress and brings depth and focus to the story. The cast are carefully picked and the result is great. The Gifted series will give any watcher a great episode of the Marvel X world.
The X world are filled with Mutants and we normal humans don't really understand how to handle the situation. Some act in fear and some with rage. The Gifted deliver a great aspect of the issues between mutants and normal humans.
Watching The Gifted won't waste your time.
The Orville (2017)
One trek to space, one smile to The Orville
In the true spirit of Star Trek genre The Orville series bring a great touch of both humour and a slice of originality not seen for a long time in a science fiction TV-series.
Some would say The Orville is Star Trek in easy mode, but that would be an insult to both the crew, cast and producers. This is a wonderful production with great potential to beat Star Trek Discovery.
The Orville keep the essence of the old school Star Trek and will not interfere with the cult. The characters in the series are very easy to remember and they are all distilled out of the all the many Star Trek characters characteristics and put together in a beautiful ensemble.
I believe The Orville have a great future. See it and believe in it.
