Jimmy Kimmel Live! (2003– )
10/10
One of the best.
28 March 2024
The MAGA crowd will, of course, hate him, because he tells the truth about Trump. But he does it in hilarious fashion. We need truth tellers like Kimmel, especially witty ones who can bring out the humor in the madness of these Trumpian times. If you want to see the knee jerk reactions from the MAGA crowd just read a few of the one star reviews. They are universally lame and motivated only by their bizarre loyalty to Trump.

Outside of Kimmel's relentless exposure of the MAGA madness, he has many clever and funny skits that interact with the public.

Obviously Kimmel has some great writers, but Kimmel delivers the material well.

Great stuff! I never miss an episode.

Would have been better as a documentary
14 May 2022
I am a non-Mormon who has lived in Utah for the last 45 years. The writers caricatured Mormon culture, though they did make some good points about this odd religion, its history and its charlatan originator. But this would have been much more interesting, I think, as a documentary. "Murder Among the Mormons", done as a documentary about Mark Hoffman was fascinating in a way this Hollywood-ized TV show is not.

Naturally members of the LDS faith are going to hate this show and you will see it reflected in the 1 star ratings.

The Rescue (2021)

Incredible true story!
31 December 2021
It is almost miraculous that this rescue was successful. So many things could have gone wrong. The documentary tells the story well. Most of the underwater scenes had to be reenacted but that doesn't detract from the storytelling. In reality the water was much murkier. How these divers accomplished what they did in these conditions is almost beyond belief.

I don't understand the drubbing this film has taken
26 November 2021
I thought it was excellent. Beautifully filmed, great acting and a fascinating story.

Many reviews criticize Dakota's acting but I thought she portrayed the quiet desperation of a woman trapped in a terrible marriage.

Odd to me that every silly comic book based movie gets raves and a truly great movie like this gets panned.

Worth watching just for the incredible whitewater!
5 September 2021
The stuff that kayakers can run now is absolutely unbelievable. I've done a lot of whitewater rafting and kayaking, but the rivers these boaters run is beyond anything I would have thought possible.

What? I thought this was awful in 1971
3 September 2021
I saw this movie when it came out and I thought it was awful. So long ago now that I don't remember much but that I thought Taylor's acting was embarrassing and the plot silly. Slow and dull.

But I see now it has good reviews and is considered a cult classic? Maybe I need to watch it again, but I could hardly sit through it the first time.

Fantastic documentary!
13 January 2021
It's not just about his time with Obama but that is at the core of this documentary. It also features his time with Ronald Reagan who Pete Souza differed with politically but who he felt was a good man who genuinely cared about the American people he led. This documentary is a stark reminder of the vast difference between a great leader like Obama and the abject failure of leadership we've had under Trump. Highly recommended!

Just awful
12 January 2021
Painful to watch. I suffered through two episodes and that was all I could take. Someone else here said the script was 'simply brilliant'. Are you kidding me? The script sounds like it was written by a middling junior high school student. I like historical fiction but when the fiction turns into crazy fantasy it takes one out of the period entirely. This is wretched nonsense.

I really expected to like this, but no...
30 December 2020
I've enjoyed many productions of various Charles Dickens novels and thought this would be an interesting take on the genre. It just seemed silly to the point of cringey, missing the mark on the humor it aimed for. Never got all the way through the first episode.

20 minutes was all I could take
30 December 2020
I usually like these kind of period productions, but this was an awful mess. Just silly and not entertaining. I wanted to like it. But no.

Masterpiece? I don't think so.
1 July 2020
First Sanditon and now this. Masterpiece is really slipping. The actors look like they wish they were somewhere else; thinking how bad the script is. Sets are gorgeous, there is that.

If this were fiction...
20 June 2020
...you would never believe it. You would roll your eyes and complain about how ridiculous a story it was. Truly an unbelievable survival story. I've read about this Shackleton expedition before but this gives another angle on the story. Well worth watching.

Yes it is inaccurate...it's a FARCE.
18 April 2020
Expecting some kind of drama (I had read no reviews), I was puzzled for the first 15 minutes or so. Once I realized it was a farce I found it thoroughly enjoyable. I'm sure it has little to do with the reality of the people, time and place. But I don't really care. The writing is excellent and acting is, too. I've gotten plenty of good laughs out of it.

We are now living this movie
31 January 2020
Not a great movie, but rewatching it now it is too much like the crazy reality we are living in now with a bombastic fool in the Whitehouse and a Republican Party fool of Quislings. This is more documentary than satire.

Predictable response from right wing evangelicals.
21 August 2019
Of course they don't like this. They have allowed the Christian religion to be turned on its head. The term Christo-fascist is apt. If Jesus came back today, these right wing "Christians" would crucify him all over again. It's a crazy inversion of reality and history.

I read the book. This is all well-researched. The series does a good job of relating the facts.

Disturbing to say the least.
