Barbie (2023)
Not a good movie, despite all the hype
I mean... it's not horrible, but it's definitely not good. I'm actually not sure what it was... not truly a comedy, not truly a musical, not really a SF, not really a drama. I dunno, a weird mix, but in very blend way... from my perspective it didn't have any strong points, any strong punch lines, anything that "sticked" after watching it. Seemed somewhat like a weird and nostalgic attempt to revive the brand, if you ask me... not sure if that was the purpose, but that's my opinion.
The one scene that I liked though, and made sense for me, was the one with Billie Eilish's song in the background. That was legit and got my focus and some emotions, even.
Other than that... I'd say it's a simplistic, unpretentious watch if nothing better is on TV or streaming apps.
Firefly Lane (2021)
Spot on, hit hard, can't get over it just yet.
I think each TV show hits different at different times and when it's personally relatable.
For me, this was the case with Firefly Lane, watching it during the holiday season of December 2023.
It's been two years and four months since my dad passed away, from an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer (ES-SCLC). I'm a big introvert and have a really hard time talking about it and opening up about my feelings and my entire experience on the matter. Always have.
But I can't hold back my tears even now, while writing this, which is exactly how I had to watch the last episodes of Firefly Lane, as they felt like they were cutting me open and reading my memories. Crystal clear.
It was so well put on screen and so perfectly acted... how you receive the news, how impossible it is to accept it, how you sacrifice everything, how you try everything, how you live through the devastating and still impossible-to-accept end-game. It's spot on. A devastating, perfect copy of reality.
Firefly Lane took me down the Memory Lane. Painful but much welcome. "Love is only equal to the pain".
Childhood's End (2015)
Not great not terrible
If you're expecting to see the book on screen, you'll be disappointed (2/10 rating). Characters changed, story changed, timeline changed, and the list goes on.
But, if you manage to watch it as a different story, only inspired by the book, it's decent. It has inconsistencies, it has exaggerated and poor ideas, it has some bad acting and cliches, but all in all it's watchable and enjoyable.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Slow paced but beautiful
The movie is slow paced so make sure you're in the proper mood before hitting "play".
But, in spite of most reviews, I loved the story. Simple, yet strong and deep. About humanity, future, relationships, logic and emotions, goals and motivation.
I totally recommend it!
Away (2020)
Too glitchy
Ok, it's more about human goals, relationships and emotions than it is about space exploration and reaching Mars. A drama, basically. That's fine. But it's so far fetched from reality that it's annoying... I mean doing normal phone calls (like iPhone to iPhone) from Earth to the space craft it's something normal in this show, can totally happen every 5 minutes. And with crystal quality and zero delay. Good job!
The Affair (2014)
Beautiful!
This show is superb!
I began watching it on HBO GO without knowing anything about it before. It was just a random pick from things to watch, zero expectations.
But man... it is such a good show and it grows on you minute by minute. You cannot pin-point exactly what makes it so good, but in its entire context it is! The characters, the story, the set, the images, are so authentic and so... humane. It's brilliant, the human nature, with ups and downs, good and bad, love and hate, sadness, redemption, forgiveness... linked throughout generations.
Brilliant, a must watch!
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
Well done and thank you!
A simple production with an authentic and powerful message!
Simple words, spot on facts and stories!
After watching the entire series I find impossible not to think about how me as individual can make a difference and inspire others to do the same. Small steps in the right direction.
It's just us, here on this inexplicable wonder called Earth. There's no one else. So it's up to us to find and maintain the balance of life!
Batwoman (2019)
Yeah, it's bad...
All the 1, 2, 3 stars are right.
But for me, it's the kind of bad acting and bad scripting and bad VFX that I managed to find somewhat funny and made me keep watching it, mostly thanks to Alice (Rachel Skarsten).
Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
Boring
Poor acting, dull, so very boring to watch. I've seen it on Netflix in lack of something else...
