Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Inner Light (1992)
Spectacular Storyline and Writing
I loved the premise, the telling, and especially the casting! They could not possibly have done better with casting than Daniel Stewart and Jennifer Nash as the children of Patrick Stewart and Margot Rose! Well written and executed episode!
Designing Women: The Beauty Contest (1986)
Carls Jr in Georgia
This is another program that is so well written, I laugh out loud every episode. 20 years after this episode originally aired and I caught a minor faux pas. Charlene, while talking about how much she enjoys selling her cosmetics on the side, mentions a woman she met at Carl's Jr. BUT, there are NO Carl's Jr. in Georgia or any other state east of the Mississippi. On that side of the country, those fast food restaurants are called Hardee's. Carl's Jr. restaurants are only in the West. They do share parent company CKE Restaurants, comprised of Carl's Jr./Green Burrito, Hardee's, and La Salsa. As many times as I've seen this episode over the last 20 years, I can't believe it took me this long to catch that!
Reba: Tea and Antipathy (2001)
Safeway in Texas
I enjoyed this episode because Van finally confronted his parents about them disowning him unless he left his wife (and baby). But, the way they make Van so completely dense sometimes makes me fear for the intelligence of poor Elizabeth. Cheyenne is always written as a ditz with an occasional flash of intelligence, while the same is true of Van. He's going to "learn to mow" in order to make money for rent; yet in the later episodes, he's the real estate genius! One error I saw was when Brock took Kyra to that "tea house" and the waitress mentioned that the jelly was from England. Kyra replied "get over yourself, it's from Safeway". Safeway is called RANDALLS in Texas.
Good Luck (1996)
Pop some popcorn and pop this in the DVD player!
This is a fabulous "feel good" movie. I've probably watched this a dozen times and it's still a favorite to pop in the DVD when company comes calling. This movie never got the publicity it deserved so it's pretty much a surprise when I play it for guests. Then, everyone wants a copy. I probably would never have heard of it myself if my mom hadn't been an extra in it and (unlike one of the previous comments) she loved every minute of the experience - as well as the finished product. Part of it was filmed in Winchester Bay, Oregon where my mom had a gift shop. I love hearing all the "inside" stories she tells such as when she was on the outside patio in direct line of sight of the scene being filmed in the bar. She was under a light which highlighted her flaming red hair and it stood out too much in the scene. The director yelled "cut", then "kill the red hair"! At first, she thought he said "kill the red-head"!
Reba: The Story of a Divorce (2002)
Newhart flashback...
Reba meets with an old high school flame, goes out on a date and has a great time. Now, she can't remember why in the world she broke up with him all those years ago. It's not until he kisses her that she realizes the reason: He's a bad kisser! Just to make sure, she meets up with him in a local coffee shop, and kisses him again. She doesn't want to hurt his feelings but he finally talks her into telling him why there's no chemistry between them. The part I loved most was when Reba and Peter Scolari (who played Michael Harris on "Newhart" years ago) kissed. Reba told him she felt nothing, grabbed her purse and left. Then, Julia Duffy (Stephanie Vanderkellen on "Newhart" and girlfriend of Michael Harris) walks up, hands him her card and tells him she felt it, call her. Peter's perplexed look of "don't I know you from somewhere" was priceless! I laughed for a full minute!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Ship in a Bottle (1993)
Computer, end program...
I just watched this episode for the umpteenth time and can't believe I missed this important goof. At the very end, Picard says "But, who knows - our reality may be very much like theirs. And all this might just be an elaborate simulation running inside a little device, sitting on someone's table." Then everyone leaves the room except Barkley. Then Barkley says "Computer, end program"...and there's NO RESPONSE from the computer. Any time the computer is addressed it should respond... In other episodes, the computer responds to rhetorical questions even if just to say "There are currently no programs running, please restate question." As an example, the episode where Beverly Crusher was trapped in the warp bubble and kept talking to herself out loud which always got a response from the computer.
