Oppenheimer (2023)
Not really sure what to think.
The movie was ok. There were some cool scenes, great acting, fantastic cinematography, and excellent sound design.
The problem I really had with the movie was the sex scenes. They felt out of place. It was shocking to say the least seeing that in the theater. I looked away to be honest because I didn't really want to see that. I don't think it was crucial to the story, there are certainly ways to imply what happened without explicitly showing things.
I love Christopher Nolan's movies. I think he is a fantastic filmmaker. For me, this film just didn't hit the mark. I felt more taken out than anything because of some of the content. I still have mixed feelings and I'm not sure what to think.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
Ok... Hear Me Out
I've noticed a lot of generally negative reviews for this movie, fortunately I watched the film before checking out what other people had to say about it.
I first want to clarify that I have not read the book series nor did I even know that it, or this movie, existed a few hours ago.
I was scrolling on Disney + and stumbled upon this film and decided to give it a shot. And I'm glad I did because it was a pretty great film.
I went into this not knowing what exactly I was getting into, but within the first 10-15 minutes I knew I wanted to see how it was going to turn out.
Without giving anything away the film follows Artemis Fowl who is searching for his lost father. He is aided by an ensemble of a great group of characters that add to the story of the film. The film looks incredible, I was impressed by the visuals when watching in 4K with HDR. The cinematography team nailed it with this one. The story was likable and entertained both me and my eight year old brother.
The film was really well made and is fun to watch. Admittedly I may not feel the same way if I was a fan of the book series, but for those who are unfamiliar with it (like myself) I would certainly recommend watching this film. As a filmmaker I have watched a lot of movies, many of which can be dull and hard to watch. However, Artemis Fowl succeeds in entertaining the audience while still being a high quality film.
So maybe this isn't the film for you, that is ok. But if you're looking for a fun movie that is perfect for any family or movie lover, give this film a shot.
Batman: New Times (2005)
The voice acting is the best part!
Adam West as Batman and Mark Hamill as Joker in the same short is a dream come true. The voice acting is the best part of this short.
The story is pretty basic and tries a bit too hard to incorporate several characters from the Batman universe in the 11 minute runtime. The animation isn't the best which is understandable for a student project from the early 2000s.
Definitely worth watching at least once.
Singin' in the Rain (1952)
Making Movies; The Musical
This is an amazing movie. It will make you laugh, maybe cry, and want to sing. The songs are really catchy. My favorite song is Make Em' Laugh by Donald O'Connor. The movie's story of making a movie with sound is perfectly done and great in the eyes of a filmmaker.
