Mrs. Pollifax-Spy (1971)
Tiresome, seems to constantly switch location style
This is a fabulous woman who was in the great His Girl Friday film. Watch that. This is the kind of movie you turn down the volume and make your own funny dialog.
Beuys (2017)
amazing artist with a huge personality--a must for modern art fans or newbies
Amazing film about an amazing artist with a huge personality and a lot to say. If you like the doc about the performance artist who stares into people's eyes, art in public life, dada and so on--or fishing jackets (not explained in the film) go for it. Also see public debates on art where Beuys destroys academics and students etc.
Welfare (1975)
The point is the people
Truly priceless and wonderful and sad. Before people played to the camera. truly dismal situation for people and for employees. The intention is pure humanity and a portrait of a time. Incredible racial exchange at 60:16 with a patient security guard. No computers; bouncing back and forth between agencies. The scenes will seem very long. I'd suggest seeing it in two sittings.
Essene (1972)
Before social media there was verite
Filmed without comment, this movie shows an institution dealing with changing times and the typical personal and leadership issues that any organization might have. Very slow paced and the scenes seem unececcearily long and repetive. Don't miss the head father going to the hardware store and fussing about what potato peeler he wants to by to the amusement and irritation of the owner of the store.
