El cazador (2020)
I'm a big fan of slow movies, but...
...but this is just boring without a reason, without a cause. It's a short film, fed into a movie. A story what can be exciting, but it's just made boring.
No, art is just not this...
Pihalla (2017)
One of the unexpected surprises of the year
When i red the very banal two-line-plot on IMDb, I thought i will watch a cliché gay summer movie, a typical love story encluding malignant parents, hater society, etc. This movie is nothing like that. Very original and well acted characters (especially the mothers), very nicely written and directed script, very understandable but not cliché situations which are seemingly from the real life (oh those little details!). I have to mention the camera work - photography is just nice.
Watch this movie if you want a nice summer evening with thoughts and emotions, but not the overloaded Holywood way. I didn't regret a moment of it.
Jó estét nyár, jó estét szerelem (1972)
Greek fate-tragedy in Hungary
To be honest, the hungarian cinema is in great trouble now. So I don't really look hungarian films... new ones, first of all. But after i sew yesterday this two-part 1972 masterpiece, i was just sitting in my chair, smoking a cigarette. In silence. The plot (an adaptation of the novel of Endre Fejes) is very simple: a "dark costumed guy" pretends to be a Greek attaché to pick up girls and to make himself believe that life is more than just gray every-days. He gets the girls, engage them... and then disappear. What rests is only his fake name: Victor Edmond. All this goes till the day he meets a girl who he falls in love with. It's a simple direction, but full with great literature-citates, full with great situations. The novel is written in an era of communism, so it has a hidden critical aspect too. But now, 18 years after the death of the hungarian dictature - this film is still alive. It has a great connection with the Greek fate-tragedies, and on some points (it's a coincidence, but it's interesting) with the book The Talendted Mr. Ripley. Gabor Harsanyi is this days a comedy actor, and not so good in this genre, so i was really surprised how sensitive and nice he does play this role of Victor. The film is full with No. 1. actors of that and this time: Mari Törőcsik, Nóra Tábori, Teri Tordai, Klári Tolnay, Gábor Koncz, Ferenc Kállai. It is a very nice surprise of the hungarian cinema, a must-see-hungarian-film.
