Into the Dark: Crawlers (2020)
Not a horror, long drawn out dialogue.
The story starts with a young woman talking about a St. Patrick's day party a year ago. Flashing back and forth between her dialogue & the story that starts at the party. It's one of those teen drama movies -with some laughable scenes and does not fall into a horror genre. A lot of dialogue with not much action.
The movie starts out with college party scenes & teenage drama between some girls & they throw in some commentary about a group of frat boys, the beginning scenes take place in the local bar, with the main characters developing.
The story is told from the perspective of a local girl, Shawna, who shares her conspiracy theories at the bar, introduces the characters & shows her distaste for them, describing herself as a loner.
A misfortunate event takes place & now they have the beginning of a plot to work with. The main character, Shawna & another girl, Misty, go on a detective mission to find out what strange occurrences are happening around their town, & what is causing it.
The local police become involved but some of them are not quite who they appear to be. Misty & Shawna continue hunting for clues & run into other characters unveiling the mystery behind the weird actions of some of their friends and law enforcement.
For a low budget film, I didn't turn it off, but admittedly I thought about it a few times as it's slow with nothing much happening but teenage rambling about their lives & past mistakes. Travelling around to a few different places introducing a few new characters but they don't seem to be taking the seriousness of their situation with any quick smart actions behind it.
They take matters into their own hands and realize they are running out of time, so is my patience at this point. Finally the main characters arrive at their intended destination, after more & more talking and teenage drama, & the heroine saves the day as predicted. Or does she?
The Divide (2011)
Worth a watch, disturbing but realistic movie
I don't usually write reviews but I found this movie deserved one. I am a fan of the apocalyptic "end of the world" type movies so I gave it a try. The acting is phenomenal, great actors and they all play their roles so well. Some disturbing scenes, but I found it to be a realistic idea of the human nature in a life or death situation & how our true nature may possibly reveal itself. The divide is intriguing & kept me watching, not a movie I'd suggest before bed, I watched it once, don't think I will again, but worth the watch.
Extinction: Patient Zero (2014)
It was good enough I didn't have to turn it off
Sure it wasn't the best or worst movie I've seen. Considering they made the movie basically all in a quarantine locked up room, with a few videos uploaded by the main scientist working on the biological weapon, it was good. The ending was a surprise, & there were some unanswered questions but overall I think it deserves a better rating than a 1. There are four main actors, 3 scientists & a army corporal waking up in a locked quarantine bunker. The main scientist is injured & unconscious, the army corporal is injured, the other two dr's are just trying to figure out what happened. It started intense & flashes back & forth between "the dr's video logs" (not any of the dr's in the room) & the present. The clock is ticking down from 60 minutes where the building will self destruct without the unlock code from the unconscious dr. There are some parts where you say "oh come on? Is this for real? Are they really doing that?" But it still kept my interest. The one dr finds a link to the outside world via a satellite, laptop type device, & is connected to a dr. Lang, who says he works for homeland security. Throughout the movie I was questioning who were the good & bad guys, because everyone is suspicious of each other & even whether the outside world connection could be trusted. When I look back after watching the whole movie, I thought "yeah that could happen, yeah what if that contamination was let out into the world & millions of people were dying. A man made biological weapon possibly being released into the world? A biological weapon of sorts? Just watch it with a open mind. End of the world movie fanatics like me may like it.... just don't expect a lot of action & running and gore, remember it all takes place in an underground bunker type large safe room.
