Tenet (2020)
I dont know, maybe I'm just stupid.
For real though. That was the most confusing movie I've ever watched. Christopher Nolan's Inception was mind-bending as well, but I kind of processed the plot as the movie progressed pretty smoothly. With Tenet, I was lost. I could barely hear the actor's voices let alone process the complexity of this film. Part of it I think is that I've never watched a movie where the past and present were intertwining like that so I was confused throughout the movie. I really don't mind and even really admire Nolan's complex plots, but in a 150 min movie, by the first 30 mins, I expect to understand the basic plot. With Tenet, that happened around minute 130.
Swiped (2018)
Terrible
I'm shocked that whoever filmed, edited, and even wrote the script didn't stop and realize how terrible this movie is. The writing was poor, acting was pathetic, character development was non-existent and very stereotypical. The characters embodies the stereotypes that are ever so last century. Why are all the girls dumb and shallow? Why are the guys acting like unhinged animals? This is terrible. I am so embarrassed for the producers.
Élite (2018)
Dramatic, Mysterious, Thrilling
Great combination of drama, mystery, and thrill. There's always an overarching mystery but the side stories are very interesting. The contrasts make the storyline so real and raw: rich vs poor, religious vs secular, shame vs honor, friendship vs betrayal, love vs infatuation. The depictions of the supposed "16 year olds" is definitely not realistic, but that's kind of the point. the writers keep up the great writing, I won't mind seeing many seasons of this.
Crawl (2019)
DON'T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN
This is by far one of the most suspenseful movies I've watched in a while. Once the crocodile appears, the action and tension are maintained throughout the film. Those 90 minutes were very, very stressful. One star off because I wanted a proper resolution at the end. Overall, the acting was great, the plot twists were clever, and the gators were DEADLY
Escape Room (2019)
It was good until the end.
This movie was a good thriller with a captivating storyline. I was very disappointed with how they ended it. Why foreshadow a sequel without filling in the plot holes? They could have added twists and turns; rather, it was very predictable. Nothing to look forward to. Nothing shocking or unique about this movie really.
What Men Want (2019)
Barely made it halfway to 10
I was really looking forward to watching this movie. The trailers seemed interesting and the idea had potential. Now, the writers didn't completely ruin the movie, but they sure came close.
Let me start off by saying the men could not be more clichè. It was astonishing and lowkey embarrassing. Really?! All the men you work with are horny infidels and demeaning misogynists. Its sad that this movie failed to portray a decent male character. And I get it, women are awesome, but please, we need some balance to make it believable at the very least.
Secondly, the main character was kinda crazy. She really seemed like she had no personality traits beside crazy and manipulative. She was angry throughout the entire movie. Like, okay, we get she's a confused victi, but reveal her personality from a different angle. Make her relatable, so we can like her a bit.
Now the movie had lots of weird, vulgar language. It might've been better if they took it down a notch and added more plot. Perhaps even plot twists. Needless to mention the ending was pathetically predictable. Its almost shocking.
Lastly, Some of the jokes were good. Some were lame.
Generally, I would rather have watched this movie in the discounted theatres. It wasn't worth the hustle of hurrying to a movie theater the Friday of its release.
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
A clever sequel, surprisingly just as good as the first one
First of all, let me begin by thanking the writers for giving us a reason why this phenomenon is happening besides the cosmic cliche that every movie does. I'm sure their science has many, many plot holes, but I guess I'm not the quantum physicist that was bothered here. This sequel retains the personality of the first one, perhaps it even adds on some humour. Its very funny and twisted. The way the movie began, I personally thought it was going in a different direction. It sure did prove to be completely unpredictable. It did have horror characteristics, but viewers wanting a horror film will likely be disappointed.
I personally loved it. Would watch it again, and would watch a third movie if they decide to make it a trilogy.
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
Originality meets a charming cast
If you're here for a few good laughs, then this movie will give you just that. The plot is very clever and the jokes keeps you chuckling throughout. The fact that they're hating on romantic comedies and then pretending to be in one when the film is actually a romantic comedy itself was very ironic. Rebel Wilson is just a fantastic actor; I can't think of anyone else more fit for the role. She's very talented. In the same way, the rest of the cast were charming. I'm glad I got to watch this movie the first night of its release. Watch it, it'll be funny; if not, at least it'll be cute.
The 100: Damocles: Part Two (2018)
JAW-DROPPING
This episode is the best finale I have watched for any show, ever. In 40 minutes, the writers were able to infuse all the elements of an epic storyline. I cried, then smiled, felt an adrenaline rush as time was running out, and it finally concluded with a jaw-dropping wrap up. I would have never guessed or imagined an ending like this. This was more than just unpredictability, it was innovation. I loved every second of it. I wish I can also go to "bed" til the next season airs.
Instant Family (2018)
Awe inspiring and heart warming movie! 10+
First of all, the cast was beautiful. Every single one of them. The actors could not have been more fit, and their performance was impeccable. The script was extremely well-written, with jokes that kept me giggling throughout the film. (btw those who might have gotten offended by some of the jokes are def really really boring at parties). The content was original, entertaining, and executed to perfection. It made me laugh, cry, and wish it would never end. Mr. Wahlberg, you've done an outstanding job!
A Star Is Born (2018)
Exceeded Expectations
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper did a great job portraying their characters. The acting was stunning. The singing was jawdropping. The ending was heartbreaking. Excellent!
The Predator (2018)
Fell asleep 30 mins in. Walked out an hour later.
I just couldn't finish this movie. I was yawning throughout the entire movie. I couldnt relate to any of the characters (except the little boy). The editing looked fake. The storyline was all over the place. This movie doesn't have a strong hook. I kept trying to care for it, but I couldn't. Even the recliners at the movie theatre couldn't make me stay, and that is saying something.
Inception (2010)
Best movie of all time!
I have watched this movie numerous times but I have never written a review about it. Almost nine years have passed and no movie could top this one. Amazing and impeccable in every way!
Hereditary (2018)
No Horror, Just Disturbing
No thrill whatsoever, just very weird and unhuman characters. Couldn't relate to any of the characters. Plain demonic. First movie I walked out of.
Searching (2018)
EXCELLENT!
We were unsure whether we want to watch this movie, but we eventually did, and I'm so happy we did. Not one dull moment. Began with an emotional loss and that really set the movie up pretty well. Continued with a gripping storyline, shrewd twists, clever dialogue, and explored different possibilities which the audience suspected. So many dead ends, but that's the thrill! I was very concerned about the ending, as the story was going great and I was hoping it ends well. Without spoiling anything, it is safe to say that I definitely got the closure I wanted. Best movie of the summer. Best tech movie of all time. GO WATCH IT!
