Guy X (2005)
Derivative drivel
There's nothing original in this dreadfully slow and bizarre Frankenstein of a film.
Several leading roles are played by non-Americans. The actors' attempts to mimic the Yank dialect (hey, let's go Southern--always easy!) are ludicrous to indecipherable. Guess the financing required a United Nations cast.
Plot holes abound. Dialogue often seems improvised, and not for the better.
This in an Altman-wannabe that's simply remaking M*A*S*H and doing a superbly bad job of it. Give it a miss. Pass it by. Run like breaking wind.
Skip it.
Saving Face (2004)
Sweet Story
Overall, no serious complaints, though I do share the discomfort with the smoking doc. Yes, I've known doctors who smoke, but they are vastly the exception. And not as smart as our heroine.
Amazingly, I recognized the actor playing the hair stylist, although I wasn't completely sure until I saw the credits. It's Richard Chang, and for a completely different (and leading) role, see him in "Kejar Amerika."
Oh, and what's up with Chinese women putting up with this paternal overlord crap in the US? Girls, kick those sexist butts and get outta the house, family or no.
Lie with Me (2005)
Oh. My. Lord.
So we see an erect penis.
And plenty of breasts, though usually the same two.
Over and over.
And over.
But there's no story. None. A woman wanders around, muttering to us via convenient voice-over (god help us), while she apparently falls in love with said penis, or perhaps the male it's attached to. Hard to say. Not worth saying. Not worth seeing. Even for free.
Oh, yes--read the director's mini-bio here on IMDb. Gee, I wonder who "Anonymous" might be.
Lords of Dogtown (2005)
Not quite total trash
Unfortunately, IMDb requires a minimum of 10 lines. In this case, the last line of this review is all you need to know.
Meanwhile, we need 9 more lines.
Let's see...
I'm thinking....
I have it!
If you like to see teenage boy chests in action, this is your flick.
Otherwise (potential spoiler alert!), it's the tale of a group of juvenile delinquents exploited by a white-trash con-artist. Badly told.
Boring, sociopathic crap.
