Appalling

Described as low budget by Caroline Munro herself in her introduction on TPTV. It really is low budget and full of ham acting, despite four classic horror actors from the good old days of Hammer Horror Films. The investment and ameteur production is really what let's it down.

Caroline Munro in particular lets down as she appears to have lost her skills with age. Supporting actors present are lacking in acting ability and appear bored as progress develops. Best performance goes to Martine Beswick but she's not in the movie as much as her performance justifies.

The movie including Caroline's introduction is 1h 22m long. I made it to 45 minutes before giving up. I seriously lost the plot so no spoilers here!

Currently available to stream on TPTV Encore until 31 August 2024 so I may go back and attempt to watch the movie to its end.

Not good

Warning: Spoilers
This a pilot film for a comedy series that wasn't followed up and I'm not really surprised.

The pilot starts with Bindle (Alfie Bass) in his senior years making a living by helping his antique/second hand dealer friends fleece American tourists, quite successfully.

After the days antics Bindle goes home and beer in hand, talks to his late wife's photo, then falls asleep in the chair.

He dreams about his younger days, losing his job after losing the horse drawn pantechnicon full of furniture, with the client's wife locked on board, embarrassing his wife at a friend's get together and falling out with the friend who tries to get Bindle to work for him for a lower rate meanwhile sacking a man who works for him at a much higher rate.

Lots going on but the acting and script is pretty poor. Not surprising the series never went ahead.

Shame really. Apparently based on a series of books about Bindle by Herbert Jenkins.

Great programme.... but...
20 October 2023
It's a great programme and extremely informative especially to an amateur historian like me.

The pairing of Mike and Noel works well but there's an exception. They should stop their commentaries on how children were brought up back then. My parents were overly strict and caused untold damage to me and my siblings mental health. I know you can't account for the impact on everyone that watches but their (presenters) views of that nature should not be part of the series. It just becomes uninformed drivel because it's based on their parents. They need to stick to memories of their own relevant to the clips and emails.

If they were to adhere to my suggestion then I will revise this site and give a 10 rating without hesitation.
