9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
Ignores anything related to a real firehouse or protocols.
I completely understand highlighting
career calls because those are what add to the drama and action of the show so I won't get in to how incredibly rare ANY call these guys run, seemingly every day is a blatant inaccuracy. My gripe with this show is they obviously didn't have a single first responder consultant to have some semblance of accuracy. It's possible to make a show that's heavily dramatized but also accurate. See The Terminal List. Here's a list of things that are so outrageous that it makes the show unwatchable for anyone who's a first responder.
1. There's no shift change. The fire house has multiple crews that work 24 and sometimes have 24 to 48 hours off. Why does these same group of like 8 people always seem to be working and then it just shows them going to the bar at night "after shift". Who the heck is at the station?
2. Liv Tyler would be fired immediately after almost every single call she runs including intubating that kid with asthma (with minimal symptoms) while he's conscious and tells the dad to hold him "very still". She would have also been fired for putting a catheter in a patient in a packed bar and spraying urine all over the place.
3. We don't ever walk up and just diagnose a PT. We stabilize their symptoms and transport. When these crews walk up and just blurt out " heart attack" without even taking a set of vitals.... Fired. Absolutely fired.
4. Field blood transplants? Do people seriously think this is a thing? Calling out, on a call, who's got type O blood or whatever it was and having someone out of the crowd roll up and volunteer their blood to an ailing patient. What world would that ever be a thing? Fired.
5. Ignoring anything that has to do with accurate firefighting. If you walked into a ripping building fire without a charged hose line and just a couple of dry chemical extinguishers. Without even wearing your SCBA, your jacket isn't even zipped. You won't be fired. You'll die. You'll breathe in superheated gas, suffocate and your body would be torched. What we do is incredibly dangerous and takes a ton of training and tactics. Show that. Also don't jump over fire to go fight MORE fire. That's just pathetically ignorant.
6. Running a roll over injury accident with possibly ejections is a fairly dangerous operation. All the shredded metal, broken glass and possibly leaking fuel are huge hazards to not just firefighters but the patients you're attempting to extricate from that vehicle. When the Muslim girl who's supposed to be this high sped firefighter took off her bunker coat to enter the vehicle and triage a patient I about had an aneurysm. To add insult to injury. There's zero communicating happening on a 500 square foot scene. So when the lady asks "where's my baby" and the captain looks stunned and looks over to see some dude climbing the aerial to grab the baby, still in the car seat mind you, out of a tree it was just yeeted into just shows how misinformed the creators of this show are. Before the stick was put up everyone would be aware of the baby launched into a tree.
7. Whoever the stereotypical white trash Texas firefighter is who starts yelling at the unconscious PT during the wild fire. "When you get knocked down you don't get back up". Just so we're clear it's likely this patient was in decompensated shock and this white trash clown ops to punch the patient in the face. To wake him up. Instead of appropriately treating him for shock. Yeah fired. And arrested for assault and battery.
8. Really? Everyone had to take their clothes off to go into the MRI room? Really?
This show sucks so hard and At the end of the day, Every single person on the crew would have been fired for something and likely been charged with a crime.
Turning Red (2022)
Poor effort by Disney/ Pixar
I'm not going to use terms like "woke" or "inappropriate" like some of the other reviews. I'll just say that Disney/ Pixar usually creates films that are fairly well received by people of all ages (for the most part). I can only imagine this was done by the C squad writers and was added to Disney+ and not in theaters for a reason. It was straight cheeks.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Good story, poor execution
I'll start by saying I didn't read the books, yet. I think the story associated with this show is fantastic but the way it was played out in the show was miserable. I don't think I made it through a single episode without falling asleep at least once. I understand the need for world building but it just wasn't done right. I'm told the books are awesome so maybe the show is just better if you read the books first so you have a good grasp on what's going on. All in all total snooze fest.
The Shining (1980)
Probably a reason Stephen King hates this film
Jack Nicholson's greatness can't be denied. He's a fantastic actor. That being said this movie blows. Kubrick apparently read the spark notes of this book and decided to take out huge portions that play a large role in the movie. The boiler, the hedge animals, Jacks dad etc. All of these aspects added depth to the movie and characters. Instead of Danny actually seeing anything of note, lady in the tub, any of Tony's premonitions, hedge animals coming to life etc he just walks around saying red rum. Don't get me started on Shelly Duval as Wendy. She was absolutely horrendous. Not only was she nominated for a Razzy but she should've won it. I don't know who won it instead but as bad as she was it's hard to imagine someone was worse.
Eragon (2006)
A movie loosely based on Sparknotes
This movie was terrible. But in its defense I think trying to cram one book into a movie was a poor idea from the start. There's zero character development and important parts of the timeline were ignored completely. Not to mention basic anatomy of characters. Urgals and Razac looked nothing as described in the books. From what I read this movie was posed to be the first of four but I don't even know how that's possible considering Roran is barely mentioned, Sloan appears for 45 seconds and Katrina isn't even mentioned. As I titled this review I feel the writer and director didn't even read the books just read some spark notes and winged it. Such a shame. Hopefully with Disney behind it they can remake this into a Disney + Series and redeem this trash.
Bigfoot Family (2020)
Awful
I won't even say anything about the obvious agenda the movie was pushing. I'll stick to the flat characters. If you're going to create an animated film you need quality, enthusiastic voice actors to bring your characters to life. Whomever these people were that voiced the characters didn't even seem like they memorized the lines. It sounds like someone is reading a paper they didn't write in front of their 8th grade class. I'm also curious who's idea it was to have a very obvious female voice a teenage boy? The entire movie was just lame, stereotypical garbage.
