Potluck (2021)
Heart warming in its own beautiful way.
It was an exhausting week, I was at the peak of my boredom, that's when I randomly decided to start watching potluck. Call it a serendipity because nothing else could have cheered me so well, could have made me smile and giggle with their talks. It starts off as a casual sitcom but an episode later I was hooked. I started relating to few things in each character, loved the brother sister trio bond the main leads shared. No leads per se but a lot of conversations revolve around the trio.
It is such a heartwarming and feel good show with so many subtle life lessons. The writers have brilliantly touched upon such important issues in a rather comic style which is super commendable. I really want to hug the writers and the directors for coming up with all the beautifully poignant moments in the show. It's truly a hidden gem which needs so a lot more viewers to appreciate its beauty.
If you're a fan of This is Us/Ghar waapsi (hotstar) am sure you will find this series enjoyable.
Katha Ankahee (2022)
Not your usual Indian TV Soap
10 episodes in, and I knew this wasn't the typical saas bahu or another forced love-hate-story shoven into our screens by directors and story writers who are clearly stuck in the Neanderthal period.
The setup is different, the language spoken has a millennial touch (again something fresh in ITV) and the lead actors are well aware of their jobs and there is some actual work happening here!! I don't know how accurately they have represented everyday life of an architect but it is aesthetically pleasant and feels great to watch.
Coming to the story, I felt there were a few cracks: it's understandable that viaan's character was modified to suit the target audience and a brilliant job there but in an attempt to make the character near to perfect in the first few episodes, and suddenly the condition he keeps before katha was something that I felt was not justified well enough. Even if he did, he shouldn't have completed the condition per day. I really wish they could have built that up a little more. Of course they have redeemed the character in the future episodes.
I am still on 30th episode and I'm glad the way they have taken the story so far. I hope they don't spoil it by converting it into a series with infinite number of episodes thus losing its basic storyline.
Definitely a great watch.
Edit : as of 9th November, I stopped watching the show since a month now, unnecessary dragging, useless storylines, no longer different from usual ITV soaps. Congratulations to the makers for successfully ruining such a wonderful show.
Edit: the show has finally ended on 1st December, got lucky to catch the last 5 episodes and what a finale!! I'm as blown away as I am teary eyed for the ultimate climax it ended with. Definitely made up for all the non sense track that was going on for the past 2 months.
I can't get over the leads, brilliant work by both Adnan and Aditi. I really wish to see them more in a finite series.
Monica O My Darling (2022)
Man o man! You CANNOT miss this one!
Here goes my first ever review here on IMDB. And "why am I not surprised?" It had to be, because this movie is definitely more than just a crime thriller, it is full of satire and reflects the grey shades of human psyche in a way that keeps you seeking for more. Not just that, The entire cast is top notch right from the confrontational scene in the hotel to the fight sequence between Monica and Jayant, spot on!
The best part about it is that just when you feel that you sort of know what will happen next is when the story has some nerve wrecking twist in store.
I have surely become a Vasan Bala fan after this.
