Andi Mack (2017)
Glad i'm not the only one who thinks this is terrible.
Let's start from the fact this show glorifies teen pregnancy. It is a reality, yes. But is it something y'all want your kids to see? Unlike LGBT rep, teen pregnancy is NOT right. It takes a big part from your teen and school life, your life in general. And what is worse, the teen gets pregnant of a guy who just disappears, she leaves her kid with her grandparents and just goes travelling all around the world? Why hiding she is the mother, pretending to be the sister for 13 years just to cause Andi a trauma? What, is she ashamed of being young and having a kid? You weren't careful, you got pregnant. Now be responsible for it. Don't just go away leaving all the responsibility YOU carried for yourself behing. Is this something you want your kids to have as a role model? Get pregnant at an age you should be on school, the guy doesn't even take care of the baby, pretend it isn't happening and cause a trauma to your daughter lying to her during her whole life? I really think it could have been handled in a better and more realistic way. Why isn't Andi traumatized? In real life, who would be okay after knowing your whole life has been a lie? That should have been the main focus on the show, not the ridiculous love triangle and the "ah hey andi i lied to you all along, i'm your mother. anyway, who's jonah beck?" instead of glorifying it, they should've adressed it as a real issue.
Done with my first rant. Besides of that the show is okay. Gotta admit when i found out Joshua Rush (my main celebrity crush back in 2015-2017) would be on the show i started watching it. It was good, with great humor and interesting life lessons. As many people, i knew Cyrus had a crush on Jonah the second he talked to him. Here it comes my small complain: Is GREAT that Disney is introducing a gay character, however was the stereotyping necessary? Yes, is not a big stereotype of a feminine kid, but is still a stereotype, and a really unrealistic one. If someone starts stuttering and shaking when you talk to them, of course you'll realize they have feelings for you!
ANYWAY. Now i'm going to my BIGGEST complain ever, and it is not about the show. Is about the cast, the network and the media. Although we all were 100% sure Cyrus would come out after he turned back to see Jonah and the 2x01 promo, it was not until late September that Cyrus being gay and coming out to Buffy was officially confirmed. Little did people know that on June 23rd, while s1 finale was airing (when Cyrus turned back to look at Jonah and him being gay wasn't totally confirmed yet), Disney Channel UK already introduced a gay character earlier. This was on the DCUK series The Lodge (a show i'm a big fan of). It was curious to me why media or disney channel weren't commenting about it, there was a few articles but that was it. Later in september, when disney confirmed Cyrus from Andi Mack would come out as gay on the s2 premiere, it was such great news. However as soon as i saw the media articles everything went down. Everyone was calling Andi Mack "the FIRST Disney Channel series with a lgbt character". At first i thought it was only a media mistake, and that the Andi Mack cast weren't even aware of what The Lodge was. HOWEVER, as time went by, this stuff happened: Sofia Wylie (Buffy) liked a pic of one of The Lodge's cast members. Someone asked Joshua Rush (Cyrus) if he knew about the lodge and he left the message on read. And again, Joshua Rush posted a video saying "it's been a real honor to play the first lgbt character on disney". They KNEW they were not the first show to have a lgbt character, yet they never made things clear. And what's worst. Despite glorifying teen pregnancy, Andi Mack has everything to be a successful show, plus it's promoted by Disney Channel US which gives them a lot of opportunities. With the LGBT recognition or not, they'd still get to the fourth season. Meanwhile The Lodge is from Disney UK, a network way smaller than the main one (Disney US). That LGBT recognition would have helped them to be known and show people Disney UK shows can be as good as the US ones, therefore they would have gotten a third season. But the Andi Mack cast NEVER made thing clear, making everyone believe the misinformation. This leaded to them getting renewed for a season 3 and getting The Lodge cancelled after season 2. Getting recognition and fame for lying is not okay, and is what pissed me off about the Andi Mack cast, that could be a good show and everything, but the cast disappointed me bc of how dishonest they are, especially Joshua Rush who i looked up to when i was younger. A good show can become bad for how disloyal its cast is.
Lake Placid: Legacy (2018)
Awesome!
Watched the whole franchise as soon as I found out one of my favorite actors would be on this one, and I think this one in particular has something the previous movies didn't have, which is tension and suspense from the start. It had a brilliant balance between the sub plots, the main plot, the humor and the action. The cast was amazing, and I love the fact the movie waited for the perfect moment to show the cocodrile. Which leads me to something I loved: the CGI. What a smart decision to show the cocodrile on the darkest scenarios, the CGI was decent and pretty good, something that amazes me since the previous movies (except for the first one) had such a fake and not that good CGI, that was my biggest concern about this movie, but glad it turned out decent and realistic. A highly recommended movie, worth the watch :)
Alex & Co. (2015)
LOVE IT. But should've stopped at season 2.
Why non American Disney shows turn out to be way better than American ones? This is the biggest case. A brilliant show, realistic, great cast and music. Shows actual teenagers lives and problems, natural acting, great talent by everyone on the cast. I would call it the best show in Disney since is the only one who showed reality as it is, the first two seasons were amazing. The movie? Perfect. But that should've been it.
First of all I love this show and I'm not gonna hate on it. But season 3 was just bad, senseless, and totally unnecesary. As a critic opinion. First of all, the plot of the show that we first knew was "Five friends with a dream of becoming a succesful band", and they totally ruined this plot on season 3 and made this season hard to watch. I can understand Saul (who plays Christian) and Federico (who plays Sam) wanted to become something else and push their careers to the next level, which is fine, and they had to leave Disney for it and therefore the show. But since they left, the "Five friends" plot (that was what the show is about from the beggining) just got destroyed giving way to probably the most forced and senseless storyline in the show, which destroyed not only the plot, but the realism and message of friendship I loved in the show, the reason why I started watching.
HOWEVER, not EVERYTHING in the third season is bad, the soundtrack was brilliant, just mentioning Welcome To Your Show and The Magic of Love as my favorite ones, and the Italian version of WTYS was beautiful, I personally think they should've made more songs in Italian, their original language, but yet I loved the soundtrack on season 3, and not only the original soundtrack. The songs they put in the background of s3 scenes were too well chosen and I'm sure if you listen to them you'll have the app Shazam next to you ready to find the songs.
With that said, the show isn't trash, the show isn't not worth the watch. I'm not telling you not to watch it. Is pretty good and funny, and if you're a teenager in high school I'm sure you'll feel identified with many of the situations these kids live in the first two seasons, just do what I'm gonna suggest and it'll be fine: Watch season 1 and 2, then the movie, and take the movie as the end of the show. Again it should've stopped there, or maybe they could've written a better season 3, and if Saul and Federico's leaving was unavoidable, they could've managed it better, I don't know, with face calls in the episodes, making them appear at the end of the season...but won't talk about it again.
This is a good show, a season doesn't ruin the whole thing, if you watch the first two seasons and then the movie and you stop there, that'll be fine.
The Lodge (2016)
AMAZING, but...
A great show, with a very talented cast and great storyline. By far one of the best things Disney has made, and is not even from the American Disney, UK shows are, in my opinon, better done than American shows, more realistic, and the sets used in UK shows, compared to the American ones, are that well done to go unnoticed.
I don't say this show is perfect, the storyline became low key senseless and predictable when they brought the love triangle again which in my opinion was totally unnecesary, despite of that, both seasons were brilliant, unique, and fun to watch. I've seen many people saying season 1 was boring and dumb, but hey give this show a chance, you won't regret watching both seasons and even if you don't like it after that you can't deny you had some of the awesome songs stuck in your head or wanting more of the show after the cliffhanger.
The most important part of this show (that sadly got stolen by the most stupid American tv show) is the LGBT rep that happens in season 2. A beautiful scene, simple and normal as it should be, with makes Josh the first LGBT main character in a Disney show. Sadly all this recognition the show deserved got stolen by a cast starving of fame that just shut their mouths against the unfair recognition they got because they wanted the fame. Fine, you can have it. The Lodge didn't need to lie to be succesful, here waiting and hoping for a season 3, give this show a chance! I promise you won't regret it.
