Mommie Dearest (1981)
Not that funny
I saw this movie back when it first opened at theaters and it still remains one of my best movie experiences. Granted it had some unintentional humor but to say this movie is funny is way off. For those who have actually seen Joan Crawford movies will agree that Faye Dunaway's performance was the closest thing to the real Joan, you can see this in her later performances in movies like "What ever happened to baby Jane?", "I saw what you did", and "Straight jacket", if people think Joan Crawford portrayal in Mommie dearest was exaggerated and overacted should do a little bit more research, some old articles mention her obsession with cleaning and her overwhelming fear of germs, if you think that today's divas are unbearable remember they didn't name it the Hollywood golden era for nothing, those days were when true glamor began. If you think you know everything there is to know about Joan Crawford just because you saw "Mommie dearest" then you been missing out on many, many great performances by one of Hollywood's best actresses that ever lived.
Spawn of the Slithis (1978)
The long walk home
When I first saw this movie I went to a midnight showing of it to a theater that was a walking distance away from my home, I was 14 at the time and back then the streets were a bit safer but I was so freakin' scared that I had to call a friend to come pick me up. Starting with the opening scene where the creature goes inside a home and kills the couple living there, I've seen movies involving home invasions but there was something about this one that had me with my feet off the floor. I don't know if I saw it again today it'll have the same effect on me, the parts I remember now seem to be cheesy as hell but it really managed to leave a lasting impression on me.
The Food of the Gods (1976)
One of my childhood favorites
I remember watching this movie back when I was 13 and I really liked it, of course the SFX back then don't live up to what Stan Winston studios can do on a slow understaffed day but they did manage to scare the hell out of me. I don't understand when people call these movies "dated", it sounds like an obviously stupid thing to say (no offense) about any movie that's 20 or 30 years old, what do these people expect? cell phones and laptops? come on! these producers did what they could with what was available back then and sometimes they came up with some good entertainment, which is more then I can say for today's lack of originality and creativity, just look at all the classic, and foreign movie remakes we've been watching lately, of course there's always been remakes (like John Carpenter's "The thing") but there weren't that many as there are today, today is like the thing to do just like the sequels were the thing to do in the late 80's. Anyway, if you're a fan of the nature gone nuts horror sub-genre I'm pretty sure you will find this one to be an enjoyable piece. But If you're trying to make sense and find logic in a movie about giant rats you're obviously looking in a wrong place.
