The Wheel of Time (2021)
Lord of the Rings on wheels
Is this supposed to be a very obvious copy of the Lord of the Rings?
Exact same dialogue (especially Gandalf's), exact same plot points & scenes, same set of characters... from Nazgul to Aragorn to Frodo/sam/merry/pippin. I don't know what to say!
All this introduced in the most rushed and tasteless manner possible. A terrible introduction and a poor casting.
Rosamund Pike is mesmerizing, I am quiet sad to see her lost in a see of cliché pushy actors.
Heirs of the Night (2019)
Deceiving
13 minutes in and all I heard was amazingly bad and on the nose dialogues with poor delivery, all I saw was Cheap eye contact lenses despite decent production design.Too bad, the opening was intriguing.
I won't give that show anymore of my time, this is an immature production, Seeing this a few days after Coppola's Dracula makes me cry blood tears.
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
The best Planet of the Apes since the All first !
This will be short, but the film in the current Hollywood landscape is a rare Gem. Pacing, acting, introduction and writing are at the top of what I've seen since a long time!
I missed it in theaters, because the second opus was bad (to my personal view), even if I have always supported the Planet of the Apes series ! I regret it sorely now that I have seen this (last?) opus.
If hollywood and overall audiences were able to see true great films, this one is by any standard one of those great film that brings heart before actions, do not push science where it is not needed, has authentic character and though is not exempt of mistakes and caricature on the side of the colonel, it never feels so pushy that you disconnect with the movie.
So, here is my militant 10/10 and a big thank you to Matt Reeves for making a ture Planet of the Apes as we longed for so long (40 years roughly, 17 years for others!) !
