3 Body Problem (2024)
Mediocre Body Problem
At the time of this writing the show has a 7.9 rating. I suspect in time this will go down to around 7.2 although personally I think it deserves a 6.
Too harsh? I don't think so. While I didn't hate the show and am not one of those people who need or expect all adaptations to adhere strictly to the source material I think if you are going to make changes in your adaptation they should make sense and make some sort of improvement. This show failed on both scores. The original books by author Cixin Liu were hard sci-fi and brilliant in scope and imagination. The adaptation dumbs down the source material for TV and makes changes to appease the political viewers. None of this is an improvement. All it achieves is it takes everything that made the books so different from everything else out there and turns it into the same kind of Hollywood tripe that's a dime a dozen these days.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
Disappointing
This review is based on the first episode. I wanted to enjoy this but in the end it was just "ok". It had a lot of build up to an ending that was cliche-ridden and mediocre. If you're familiar with the common horror tropes you'll be rolling your eyes in the end.
Also, I don't know why they felt it necessary to get political? I mean I know that's the rage now but I didn't feel it added anything to the story. I think the show was better as a concept but failed in its execution.
On the plus side, the cinematography and special effects are pretty good.
Also, it's an anthology series with a little comedy elements thrown in so if you don't like a little humor mixed with your horror that's something to be aware of.
The Boys (2019)
Boring
Far from the comics. They went for spectacle and shock value over actual quality or entertainment. Sprinkled heavily with the typical woke garbage. It's the kind of show you watch when you're waiting for Stranger Things or Better Call Saul to be released and you want something mind numbing to watch while using your phone.
Lost in Space (2018)
One word to sum this up: "meh"
If you strip away the SJW PC bull you'll be left with an OK show. Something worth watching when nothing else is on but also not worth going out of your way to see. If you're okay with having to occasionally roll your eyes, groan, or cringe then give it a shot.
