Conglomerate soap opera mess
9 May 2024
I don't know how people are giving this high reviews, unless they are involved with the production. Given that there may have been an "inquiry" (doubtful), as Jesus' crucifixion was likely one among many committed by the Romans. And...that news of a resurrection was likely dismissed by Roman heirachy as just so much nuisance by so called Christian fanatics, as they were viewed by the Romans at the time, this production is fiction appropriation for the sake of drama. Also, the added soap opera relationship just adds to the ludicrousy. Not sure who this production was made for, but Christians will surely just view it as fiction.

Stalker
13 April 2024
I was frustrated with this series. I had a couple of experiences with stalkers in my younger days.it comes down to thinking you can be kind and reason with him. The victim is emathetic, kind, even flattered at first by the attention, much like depicted in this series. But when none of the attempt at reasoning works, there is a hopelessness, resignation. Many calls to police, without relief. The last staler broke through my patio door with a huge rock and chased me with a gun, tried to shoot me, but the gun jammed. It ended with a police standoff outside my house. He was only charged with "brandishing" the weapon, though he had pointed it at me several times trying to make the gun fire. Anyway, this series speaks to how much a victim of stalking is more than just a victim, blaming himself, wondering what he/she could have done, said, or not done. There is also the element of a perverse addiction to the attention from the stalker. Seems this mindset was displayed in this series. Frustrating to watch, but also true.

Obscure, confusing, trying to be profound
21 March 2024
I'm well into viewing this debaclehoping to make sense of it. At this point, it feels like i've wasted hours of my valuable time. I was eager to see this as it released on Netflix. Maybe reading the book would have helped, but now i'm not inclined to do so. This series demands a LOT from viewers, and my humble opinion...not worth it. So, to continue to fill the quota for text, ...this seems another hyped series. Is it a Netflix production? If so, it is pretty much on par with their other offerings....overly hyped. Since i'm well into watching, i will try to finish it, but i doubt my opinion will change. Hope this saves some others from their valuable time.

Nando Parrada and Roberto Canessa
8 January 2024
Those two young men who hiked over impossible odds to reach Chile....what can on say, othert than remarkable survival and heroism. Itis only durpe these two young men that there was a rescue. This is a Netflix production, so different from the schlock we usually see appearing on the channel. Really commendable. I had read the original book, Alive, as well as watching the film based upon the book and tragedy. I thought, when seeing this was another film about it,,,i thought, what else can be added. I was wrong. This film is an excellent recounting the experience. Well worth the time to watch, resulting in reverence and appreciation for those who survived.

Ben Foster's performance....and ending with God Bless America
30 December 2023
It took me three tries to finish watching this film. Such horrific conditions of survival are hard to imagine. That Harry Haft survived despite PTSD is really beyond admirable. His long-suffering wife has to be commended. I wonder how his son faired in future life. I will research that.

It's not a pleasant film to watch. A stark reminder of man's inhumanity to man. Not sure many people understand or even could imagine such circumstances.

Ben Foster's performance, his physical transformations throughout the film ....well, seem beyond what one could do for a role. I hope he received awards for his valiant efforts.

Great traditional horror
20 December 2023
I rented this one on Amazon Prime. I admit, probably due to some inattention , i had to watch it twice before the rental time was expired to make all the connections.

First of all, great atmosphere, beautiful cinematography, superb period creation. The premise of a gypsy curse starts the story. Boyd Holbrool's pathologist character allready has a history and knowledge of the beast, arriving at a town where stange things are happening. Much like in Hammer classic horror, people are attacked and infected, resulting in horror. Creative ways are displayed in the results. If you like period pieces, classic horror, i highly recommend.

It becomes silly and incoherent
11 November 2023
I was intrigued and very interested in the Season 1 first 5 or so episodes. The supernatural premise was compelling, but , seriously, the writers, directors, must have decided to prolong the story as long as possible, with impossible and ridiculous scenarios. This could have been concluded cleanly with satisfying resolutions, but , NO, string the viewers along as long as possible with ridiculous loopholes, it's an insult to viewers who have invested their time. I'm well into Season two , and, honestly, it's too frustrating to continue viewing. No doubt, the writers sit around conjuring up, "what else can we do to prolong this?" Not worth viewers' time.

What a bunch of crap!
10 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hard to believe sane, intelligent people can be influenced by these two con artists. Jeff gives off a very strong gay vibe, and fat Shallia (spelling), a " beard" at the very least. There is no way these two have intimacy and ethereal "love." So sad that people desperate for a love partner would buy into their scam. Even going online to matchmaking websites , so called legitimate ones, exposes seekers to potential harm and con artists (i know from experience), but believing these two is really naive and desperate, not to mention the financial scam. That alone should have been a huge eye opener.

Renee was delusial
3 November 2023
Renee took ontoo much based upon her missionary zeal. Her medical procedures were guided, not by science, but hearing the voice of God. Really sad commentary of misguided goal in an impossible situation. The condition of malnutrition, cultural deprivation, hunger, is really beyond what can be alleviated by well-meaning (misguided) attempts fo introduce Christian beliefs along with healing. The young girl hearing God's call was delusional, thinkinking she could make a difference. Should have just left the people alone, to deal with the crisis themselves. The nurse witnessed the mistakes in the hospital.

Good scary story
14 September 2023
Acting was good, not amateur. Stoty was compelling enough to watch till the end. Kudos to the actors who performed in obviously difficult circumstances. Not sure why the low ratings. This film rates well among similar survival, haunting scenarios. Somewhat a Blair Witch vibe, but with a satisfactory resolution. Some unresolved issues regarding the abusive husband's fate, but it doesn't detractfrom the whole survival story. Reminds me of another excellent similar film, The Ritual, which i highly recommend. The actors in this film did a great job, also the director writer. I would say stick with watching it.

The loyal dog
3 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the film, well done, acting good, and story of overcoming addiction, reasons for such addictive behavior explored and explained. The introduction of the dog as a companion and inspiration for living and overcoming was a valid story point. But...the dog was seriously ill. At the vet, not even sure it would survive, yet!, was entered into a serious pulling competition while having its stomach wrapped in order to avoid a relapse. Then all cheers and kudos to the dog and owner for winning. What was the point of putting the loyal dog through that, really? I realize it's a metaphor for the young man's overcoming addiction, but this, in the end, is a form of animal abuse. The dog was so loyal to the point of death. Unnecessary.

Stunning performance by Tom Pelphrey
12 August 2023
I don't understand the low reviews. This is an absolute accurate depiction of a sociopath/psychopath/scam artist. Tom Pelphrey's performance is eerily mesmerizing as he portrays Jason Derrick Brown. The camera loves Pelphrey, and his every nuance and inflection is perfect in this role. I don't know if he received any awards for his performance but it is entirely worthy. Perhaps people who have never been victims of (or even casually acquainted with) the consummate con artist may think Pelphrey's performance was over the top exaggerated. I was astounded as i watched because his the identical behavior of the con artist who victimized me and others. Well worth the time to view. Highly recommended.

Warhol, the con artist
1 August 2023
Warhol was, first of all, an amoral, immoral con artist, autistic while a master of self promotion. Soup cans, Marilyn Monroe psters, smut and sex films. His warehouse full of degenerates, drug addicts, ans sex perverts. That his"art" really is more a statement of society to adopt and celebrate debauchery and perversity, not to mention emptiness. What really did he ever say or contribute?

This documentary is so misguided, much like what is and has been going on in society. I suppose it's popular with the gay community. Unfortunate that this is a statement, if it is?, for the them.

That Warhol is lauded as an art icon is a ludicrous tragedy. I don't care about his origins in Pittsburgh or his personal struggels. He became a monster, harming a lot of people. Look at what happened to Edie Sedgwick.

Sarah Snook is outstanding
30 June 2023
This is a psychological horror thriller. Obviously, given the reviews, not everyone appreciates the great performances by Snook and the little girl. I found the story compelling and it held my interest till the end, which is rare in the current cinema offerings. I have watched Sarah Snook with appreciation since her excellent performance in Predestination, which, if you haven't seen, i highly recommend. Not only was Run Rabbit Run compelling in its story, but it is one of those films that stays in the mind for days after watching. Sarah gave a brave performance, eschewing glamour for portrayal of a troubled woman, becoming increasingly haggard as the story evolved. Highly recommend.

Horny 20 year old?
26 June 2023
More like male prostitute. This is not defending the Falwell couple...not at all! But the 20 year old was just as immoral and corrupt. Who in their right mind agrees to a sexual experience with the husband watching? "Horny" doesn't excuse this. Then, finding out who the couple really are ....President of Liberty University...sounds like he was building a portfolio of the sexual liaison for future expose'. I'm only in the early part of this documentary, but hard to believe money didn't exchange hands from the first experience. Family of young man want to paint him as naive and inexperienced. Not likely. Also, the boy's religious Catholic mother probably didn't watch and worship televangelist Falwell Sr. Plus, boy's father is presented as a con artist. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Death row religion
14 June 2023
We've. Seen this many times before. People facing death for a horrific crime turning to religion...redeemed, testifying, a changed person. Would he have followed that path had he not been facing death, then a life sentence? Probably not. At first, i thought he was sincere. I WAS concern for the elderly lady who took him in, even considering his Christian testimony. She is obviously lonely and gullible. I had the misfortune of dealing with a lifelong criminal who would get down on his knees and pray sincerely, then he turned stalker and tried to kill me. The clincher in this story is him changing his narrative to victim due to homosexual blackmail. Ridiculous and cynical. He should still be in prison. He simply murdered that young man.

I can identify
4 June 2023
This is a hard film to warch. Unanswered questions abound with the ending. Was she delusional, psychotic, experiencing post partum depression...yes, definitely. I had a crying baby for six months (called colic), after leaving a prestigious job, living on an isolated farm with no neighbors, mother in law intrusive. My own mother couldn't take it after a few days. Mother in law did say she was worried about my isolation. Husband oblivious. I made it through, but postpartum continued for over a year, at during that time with doctors it wasn't even acknowledged. The film addresses a lot of concerns, but doesn't answer whether the horror aspect was real or imagined.

Like an anthropomorphical study, expose'
22 May 2023
I thought i had watched this film before, probably started watching it several times. Glad i gave it my full attention this time around. It's a glimpse into a subculture little known. Australians may resent the depiction, and, in fact, it may be an exaggeration. I wouldn't know, never having been to the Outback. The film definitely holds viewers' interest. The kangaroo night hunt is especially harrowing. I wonder if animals were actually harmed. Probably. The car chase during the hunt, with crazed gun toting drunks was especially memorable. 1971...really remarkable that it was filmed at that time. It couldn't be filmed today, for sure.

Brittany's outbursts
4 April 2023
This has to be scripted. So contrived, like she had no clue about Islam? Then her outbursts, first at the airport, then at his parents' house, oh my god! ...so overwrought, screaming and crying like a mental breakdown. Surely she knew the expectations for wives in a traditional Muslim marriage. Apparently, she and Kazan (sp?) hadn't spent any time discussing cultural differences, nor did she think it worthwhile to do research on her own. She (or the writers) want to present her as a strong, hip, modern Black woman. But she comes across as confrontational in almost every scene. I'm embarrassed for Kazan and his family.

These people lack common sense.
3 April 2023
And i thought i had made stupid mistakes! The behaviors and choices are so outrageous and glaringly stupid. I do think some, if not all, the scenes and dialogues are mostly scripted for dramatic and shock effect. The 62 year old Jenny character is beyond naive, selling everything, leaving family, to move to India for a man who was secretly already married. The Brittany character, social influencer, rapper, leaves USA to marry a man from a traditional Muslim family. This one seems fake and scripted, too unbelievable. The other stories in which children are involved are just sad. All that, but it's really pretty entertaining. I find myself wanting to know the outcomes.

George Richey bad guy?
12 January 2023
I would rate this series a 10 but for the obvious bias toward George Richey. It's hard to imagine him being the conniving scoundrel.depicted given that he was married to Tammy for 20 years. That, and the fact that this series is based upon daughter Georgette's book, also having her input as adviser during production, and appearing in the last episode. In another review here, someone with a long history in Nashville music scene stated that this series was an attempt to redeem and salvage George Jones' legacy, though it was common knowledge that he regularly beat Tammy. In the scenes of Jones' drunken rages, we can see that behavior depicted shockingly, so the series was honest in that respect. As per the attraction & courtship in the early relationship between George and Tammy, it is depicted as all innocent and above board. C'mon, nobody believes a shampoo resulted in the table turning scene (however entertaining). Good performances by all. Singing was okay, but lacked the truly unique quality of both George and Tammy.

Meanness, parental abuse, bullying
30 December 2022
There was really no reason for the violent bullying. In reality the degree of violence would have lead to serious injuries, yet we see the protagonists walking around afterward like it was nothing. Then the violent abuse toward the daughter from dad. Absolutely awful and WHY HOW was this necessary to the story? The cruelty displayed by the kidnapper is just plain unpleasant. Overall, this movie was just a bad viewing experience. And i really like Ethan Hawke, but this goes to show how little discernment even famous talented actors have when accepting work. I wish I hadn't watched it. Not something to let into one's mind.

Much more than a boxing documentary
28 November 2022
The Klitschko brothers are immensely talented athletes. Their history, growing up as sons of a Soviet military officer , living all across the USSR, from Kazakhstan bordering China, to Kiev, Ukraine, and also in the shadow of the Chernobyl disaster, gives their story historical significance. Then the fall of the Soviet Union, traveling to other countries to train and box professionally, becoming world champions, discovering and liking the USA after being brainwashed as children in school to hate America....all makes for an immensely interesting and engaging story. The brothers are attractive and even a non fan of boxing could appreciate their skill in the ring.

Kind of sad
27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm into episode two. Excellent performances by Eddie Marsan and Monica Dolan, always great in anything they do. Story is of a financially irresponsible, selfish , liar husband and a naive wife persuaded into a criminal deception. There really is no comedy, just a fascinating tragedy of a con artist and his sad wife. The sons lied to by a narcissist father, unforgivable. Being a true story, it deserves further investigation, perhaps true crime accounts online. Further watching the episode two, seems wife was fully invested, completing her lies to their sons. Further problems ensue as would be expected. Frustrating and still sad.
