Foundation (2021)
A beautiful recreation of Foundation
After watching only episode one, I'm amazed at how close this Apple TV production is to the heart of Asimov's book.
I love the visual creation of the Foundation galaxy - beautiful.
The plotting follows Asimov's first book closely and is a joy to watch his book take this amazing jump to the big screen.
Loving it so far!
The Crown: The Balmoral Test (2020)
Crown fall down in this one episode
The royal family's obsession with killing Bambi ruins this episode. Hopefully the other episodes will return the the quality of the first three seasons.
The Good Lord Bird (2020)
Gets better with every episode
On episode 3 with Frederick Douglass, this amazing show is really a history of the pre civil war period and John Brown told through the eyes of runaway slave Henry. Entertaining and informative, can't wait until the next episode.
The Surface (2014)
Nice film
A very quiet character study. Down and out Mitch (Sean Astin) rescues a downed pilot in Lake Michigan and so rescues himself.
This is not action movie but a quiet movie.
Loved the lake boating scenes. Captures the everyday dangers that boaters have to overcome. Mitch rescuing the pilot is really just him rescuing his father.
Very moving . Give the movie a chance.
La forêt (2017)
Wow just wow.
Great French mystery full of the brooding forest. Story has lots of red herrings and a final suspect who I didn't see coming. We were entranced the full six episodes with the beautiful cinematography of the forest surrounding the village.
Wild Decembers (2009)
Jaw dropping
Such an amazing film. Set in west Ireland, a romantic tragedy you see happening in slow motion. The famous Irish author Edna O'Brian has created a story you can't stop watching. Every joyful, beautifully shot moment and every sad, tragic moment.
The Golden Compass (2007)
Never read the books.
I never read the books so I had nothing to compare it to. My one word description of
"The Magic Compass:"
Magical...
Loved this movie. Compared to so much other drek out there, this movie inspired admiration. Lyra was a fantastic character and held the movie together. Yes, some characters and plot lines were too predictable but the overall movie had that special magic that viewers crave.
Not suitable to young children but more appropriate to children that loved Harry Potter.
