Ragnarok (2020)
I don't really need to go back to reality
I love Norse mythology. The modern take of the mythology in the first season attracted me to the show in the first place - a simple escape from daily life to enjoy the series.
Season 1 was intriguing, season 2 went meh after Vidar died, and season 3 was a complete dumpster fire.
They destroyed everything they've built in the last season. Even the main character which I supported from the first episode turned into a total jerk - truly a Ragnarok. I don't want to be reminded that I need to leave my fantasy world to go back to reality. That's what I came to the show in the first place. No thanks!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Came for the memories, and was satisfied
I've got to be honest, the story is not that engaging to deserve a 10 but I came for the memories
I clapped so happily when Tobey and Andrew appeared and swung together with Tom. All of the memories when I was a child watching Spider-man suddenly came back. I couldn't find the word to describe the feeling. It was a magical experience.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Bro interaction, but confused plot
Action-packed, humour interaction between Sam and Bucky (and additionally Zemo) is the strong point of the series. But I can't get the fight plot between the villain (Karli) and the Senator.
Yuru Camp (2020)
On par with the original anime
I don't have high hope for any live-action adaptation, but this live-action series nails the original anime's comfy. It doesn't have any differences in the plot. It replicates every scene with real-life scenery.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu (2020)
Japan did it again
This series is so Japanese (and so Tokyo-ish in particular). Characters are transported to another world suddenly, with no explanation. The story flows with all its strangeness and has an open ending (for season 2). The violence, tragedy, and darkness of the series always keep me on edge.
Perfect for binge-watching on the weekend.
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol (2020)
Charming, calming and cute
I'm not a fan of K-drama and came to this show because it relates to the piano and proposes an exciting plot: piano saves you in the darkest time of life. The story did revolve around the piano, but it's mainly about the people and love (as expected from a K-drama). So if you're looking for a piano-centered story, you should not have high hope. I found some new favorite pieces from this series (A Maiden's Prayer, Je te veux), though.
Overall, the series is cute and calming. It has sad moments but not so heartbreaking. Prepare yourself to be lied a lot.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Beautiful
You know a series is good is when it ends you feel empty. And now you started seeing chessboard on the ceiling.
Apart from the excellent story, music and fashion are plus points that bring a unique flavor to the series.
See You Yesterday (2019)
Confused ending
I know the movie is trying to end with an open ending and let the audiences imagine all kinds of situation. Will the protagonist jump over and over again or she will eventually rescue both her brother and his best friend? But this left me unsatisfied, though the plot was okay through out the film. For god just get a part 2 already, but I guess that never happens.
Arrival (2016)
For sci-fi and language lover
I came to this movie without watching the trailer, so when aliens come I was hoping for a battle, motive like protecting the Earth from aggression. But then I was surprised by the concept of making conversation between human and alien.
From the perspective of languages lover I found it super interesting and accurate in term of trying to understand each other of both side. And the reward is you know a new language that unveil a new percept of time.
After watching this who can say learning language is not science again?
Shazam! (2019)
A family movie in DC universe
Instead of dark stories like the rest of the DC universe, "Shazam!" brings us a superhero comedy family movie. A rare taste that each member of your family can find a point to enjoy. Lighthearted, hilarious, cinematic fight scene, it has them all in a proper way.
It reminds us to always bring a smile and relax even in a serious situation like fighting a super villain or your family is at stake.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Awesome spider-gang
Spider-man has always been my favorite superhero. And seeing many spider... people in a movie like this really spark me joy.
Not being constrained by some motive super heroes but a diverse set of characters and different render (anime, noir, cartoon, etc.) is a notable point. This animated choice does not just gave viewers an interesting experience but also brough this movie an Oscar (2019) for "Best Animated Feature".
Music choice is also great and suitable with a street hip-hop vibe. I found it suits the main character Miles Morales very well.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Cyberpunk vibe, but that's all
I haven't watched the original Anime yet, so this is a merely review of Ghost in the Shell film (live a ction). I came for a cyberpunk vibe and I was not disappointed, everything is visually stunning. But I think that's maybe the most notable point.
The story is OK, character buildings is pretty blant, the final end fight is not hype at all.
