Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
A true work of art
Bravo, Guillermo. You've created quite the awe-inspiring experience that is Pinocchio.
Aside from Everything Everywhere All At Once, this is my favourite film of the year. THAT is how good it is.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio mixes darkness and whimsy very effectively, and can be very funny and even quite touching
The film is also beautifully animated. Every frame of this film is a labour of love and there is so much detail in everything from the characters to the backgrounds.
I can't express how truly wonderful this film is enough. It is an experience you'll never forget. PLEASE GO WATCH IT.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
My favourite film of the year so far!
The Mitchells vs. The Machines is quite an amazing surprise, and what I consider to be the best film of the year so far. A film bursting with madcap energy, creativity and imagination, I enjoyed every second of it! It has great animation and stylised character designs that are very expressive, and it has such a wonderful dynamic between the Mitchell family that is wholesome and quite relatable. Also, the two defective robots and Monchi the pug were absolutely hilarious! Definitely a 10/10.
Finding Nemo (2003)
One of my absolute favorite films since childhood!
I loved Finding Nemo ever since I was a little. (It was probably one of the first films I've ever seen). Finding Nemo has beautiful and breathtaking animation, the ocean looks absolutely fantastic! The film also has a great message about parenting, memorable and likable characters and has a heartfelt and funny script. Finding Nemo is definitely one of Pixar's best!
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)
Abolutely hilarious!
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is absolutely hilarious, has great musical number and a message about censorship and parenting. 10/10.
Zootopia (2016)
One of my absolute favorites
Zootopia is a really fantastic film that couldn't have been released at a more fitting time than 2016, when Donald Trump was elected President and stroke fear in the hearts of American citizens in order to gain votes. The film's message about prejudice and how fear should not divide us is great and pretty damn ballsy for Disney to do.
The animation is very beautiful and the world-building of Zootopia is meticulously well though-out. The designs of the characters and the landscapes are absolutely incredible!
Both of the main characters Nick and Judy have such a good chemistry and they are two characters I heavily relate to and adore. Judy is very optimistic and wants to make the world a better place. Nick had faced prejudice for who he is and has hardened as a result. The both of them work together to solve a case of predator animals suddenly turning savage and learn more about each other on their journey, thus forming a friendship between each other. Nick and Judy are so well developed as characters and I love their camaraderie! The rest of the cast are memorable and lovable, especially Clawhauser! ^w^
The plot twist villain Ms Bellwether may be a little underwhelming, but I think she works because of the film's message about prejudice.
Overall, Zootopia is a fantastic film and definitely one of Disney's best. 10/10
Shark Tale (2004)
TERRIBLE
This movie is absolute trash. Ugly character designs, weak animation and a despicably unlikable protagonist. 'Nuff said.
Steven Universe (2013)
My favorite show of all time
This one of the greatest shows that Cartoon Network had ever aired! Steven Universe is a show that spoke to me and helped realized my true self. Connie (the fusion between Steven and Connie) may possibly be the first representation of an androgynous non-binary character in a children's cartoon and this honestly made me feel validated.
Steven Universe has beautiful pastel backgrounds, expressive and fluid animation, great musical numbers, positive LGBT+ representation and a lovable cast of characters. (I do kinda hate Ronaldo though). It is action-packed, funny and also very heart-tugging at times. I can't say enough about this show. I love it THAT much. 10/10
Coco (2017)
Another Pixar Classic
Coco is such a lovely film with beautiful animation, vibrant colours, great musical numbers and is very touching. Dia Los Muertos is so well-presented in this film! 101/0
The Amazing World of Gumball (2011)
Wow, this show has changed A LOT
When The Amazing World of Gumball first aired, it started off as being pretty decent. It was cute, fun and had a goofy sense of humour, akin to Spongebob. But as the series progressed, the show had gotten better and better. The humour got a lot more satirical and meta, subverting classic sitcom tropes. The animation got even better as well. Gumball utilizes different animation techniques and it blends together so well because of the world that Gumball and the citizens of Elmore live in. It's a weird place and the show knows that.
I now like to call The Amazing World of Gumball a kids' version of South Park. It's just as funny, smart and has the same amount of social commentary, but not as edgy. I enjoyed this show ever since I was a kid and seeing The Amazing World of Gumball grow and develop as I do, it really brings a smile to my face. This is one of Cartoon Network's very best and it will be remembered for many years to come! 10/10.
Rick and Morty (2013)
One of the best adult cartoons today!
Rick and Morty is one hell of a bizarre show. It's creative, hilarious, insightful and oh so dark. Like Bojack Horseman, it's one of the best adult cartoons of all time.
Balto (1995)
An underrated gem
Even if this film is historically inaccurate, it stands strong well enough on its merits. Balto is an underrated gem that is a part of my childhood. It is beautifully animated, filled with likable, charming and memorable characters and is also very intense. 10/10
Cars 2 (2011)
Pixar's first big disappointment
A very disappointing and mediocre Pixar film. 4/10
The Iron Giant (1999)
An animated classic!
The Iron Giant is not only one of my favorite animated films but also one of my favorite films PERIOD. The friendship between the Iron Giant and Hogarth is what makes the film charming, funny and deeply heartfelt. The story is touching and has very heartfelt, deep messages such as "You are who you choose to be" and "Souls can't die". The Iron Giant's death was absolutely heartbreaking! ;-;
The animation is absolutely gorgeous and I love the work the animators did with the Iron Giant! The character designs were really nice and very distinctive. The characters themselves are very likable and the performances that the actors give them are top-notch. Overall, The Iron Giant is a touching and beautiful tale about a friendship between a boy and a giant robot. It's sad that the film bombed at the box office and people didn't give it the attention it deserved when it was released back in 1999. Definitely a must-watch and I cannot recommend it enough!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Honestly not only the best animated film I've ever seen but also THE BEST FILM I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE PERIOD!
Into the Spider-Verse is pitch-perfect, a true masterpiece and a work of genius! It was hilarious, touching, heartfelt and wonderfully animated. The soundtrack and voice-acting were very good too. Please check this film out while you can. You don't wanna miss it!
Kiru ra kiru: KILL la KILL (2013)
Gleefully over-the-top and absolutely enjoyable!
Kill-La-Kill might be my favorite anime! It's over-the-top, hilarious, action-packed and has amazing animation. The characters are memorable and lovable. Ryuko and Mako's friendship is absolutely adorable and I love seeing them together!
Definitely a must-watch for anyone who loves something extremely over-the-top.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
Back in the '90's, he was in a very famous TV show
Not only the best Netflix show ever made but also the best adult animated sitcom ever made. Bojack Horseman is a funny, heartbreaking and bitingly satirical show. Bojack Horseman is an adult cartoon that shows that you don't have to be crass and offensive to be considered mature. Bojack is mature for talking about heavy subjects such as depression, drug addiction and mental illnesses in a realistic and respectable manner and I applaud this show for that. Bojack Horseman is deep and I relate to the show so much. It changed my life!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
A pretty good Star Wars film
I don't care what whiny Star Wars fans say, The Last Jedi is a good film. It's not great but it's definitely not as bad as people say it is. It has great action, pretty good visual effects, great acting, genuinely funny scenes and the film had surprising moments. Yes, The Last Jedi does have issues, like the subplot focusing on Finn and Rose and some pretty silly moments like Princess Leia surviving from the destruction of the spaceship by using the force but it doesn't really hurt the film that much. Overall, it's a pretty good Star Wars film and I can't wait for the next one!
