Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV (2024)
A story that needs to be told
This is a story that needs to be told. 5 minutes into the first episode and I was already sick to my stomach. I can't even imagine what else was happening behind closed doors seeing what was even allowed to air.
Really engrossing documentary so far and its utterly shocking seeing everything that was allowed and pushed under the rug simply due to the fact that the shows were getting viewers and making money.
I genuinely feel sick I cannot stress it enough, just be advised before you watch. The conditions these literal children were put in at the hands of a disgusting pervert and writers, coaches that allowed it to happen will trigger you. Nervous to even finish the last two parts.
The Last of Us: When You're Lost in the Darkness (2023)
I am shocked but this was really good...
I've never played the games (sorry, they're on my list though after this season concludes)
I was hesitant at first because of the interesting tone they had set for the series. Very comedic and sarcastic, until it wasn't...
This tone is what ultimately grabbed me, however. I think anyone that lived through the last few years and through Covid can understand that s**t has been rough and lonely and devastating.
I'm not sure why - but I cried (repeatedly), and also had several panic attacks while watching this. This was an emotional journey that some TV series' take an entire run to achieve.
And all that I know is that I'm sure that I am not ready for the rest of this story.
Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
It was long, but the payoff was insane
I just don't know how to describe what I just watched. But it was a wonderful finale of (imo) the best season of the show to date (arguably right up there with S1)
All of the pieces fell into place so perfectly. It is more action / effects / CGI-driven than other seasons but instead of *ahem* other shows that use outlandish effects as distraction and filler, they complemented the story and writing perfectly.
Just a tad bit concerned about how Duffer Bros and Co are planning to finish off everything after this wild and bombastic season, but I have faith after this installment that they might just pull it off.
Players (2022)
This is entertaining as hell
Much more grounded than American Vandal (another outstanding series) and a lot of the jokes are more subtle but they are there and plentiful.
The actors, all of them, are insanely talented. I found myself questioning if this was a real or fake documentary on multiple occasions.
I really can't wait for the rest of the series. I'm surprised at how well they were able to make me actually care for these characters and want to see everyone win.
The lead is a total narcissistic douche but I'm hoping he has at least a small redemption arc with how much of the story they're filling with him.
And the way they got me to feel for Organizm, just wanting to play the big leagues with his idols and his favorite team - only to realize how egotistical they were. Icing on the cake.
