Leave the World Behind (2023)
Given up on Netflix films
Every time I see a film from Netflix I think, well, maybe this one will be good. But sadly I'm mistaken and this is yet another pile of tut from them. How two Oscar winners and a pretty stellar cast got hoodwinked into doing this is beyond me. What were they thinking??
A plot holier than some emmental cheese. Cheese being the operative word!
The characters were just flat, you didn't care for them at all.
The tension building music for every scene which lead to nothing!! Stupid camera angles and overhead shots.
We stopped it at about 40 mins from the end as we just did not care what was going to happen.
Awful, just awful!!
The Idol (2023)
Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen
I was really looking forward to this as had seen it advertised, as well as promoted on a popular podcast. I was quite shocked at how appallingly bad it was!
Where to start? There is absolutely no plot. It is basically some daft famous pop star who starts sleeping with a creepy Svengali type and then dumps him. There's loads of stupid unrealistic sex including in a Valentino clothes shop. How on earth did they give permission to film there?
The main character, played by Lily Rose Deep is about as deep as a puddle, who just wanders around naked/with her ass/chest hanging out and wears as little as possible. She cries on cue over nowt much and is seen constantly smoking. I think this could truly kill LRD's career it is THAT bad!!
The Weeknd is just as bad, terrible actor with a terrible wig. Utter pointless drivel! Sets back women a decade it's such a pile of sexist nonsense!
You & Me (2023)
Wanted to love this...
I wanted to love this, but it is so bad! It's like some 6th form school drama. It's really badly acted and the characters are one dimensional and the plot is just rubbish!
The way they speak to each other is just so unbelievable!
Lots of wooden and unbelievable acting.
Emma looks about 12 and not someone old enough to get married!
The plot re the sister falling off a roof and then finding an incurable brain tumour just like that! No
biopsies, no more tests, incurable..*rolls eyes*
Even the kids were terrible actors!
The only thing I liked about this was the park that they hung out at. It made London look really nice.
Don't bother, unless you want a 3hr mopefest!
Conversations with Friends (2022)
So disappointing!
I suppose I knew in my heart that it was never going to be Normal People as the love between Frances & Nick didn't come anywhere near Marianne & Connell's. Unlike Normal people, I read Conversations with friends first. I was really disappointed with this adaptation. I found it pretty boring and just wanted it over with. Unlike Normal people which I couldn't bear it when it ended.
Hacks (2021)
Ignore the haters this is FAB!
Binged this in one day and now dying for season 2. Love the characters, this was smart, funny, sad and brilliantly acted! It had me laughing and crying at the same time. Bravo!
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Doesn't know what it's supposed to be
Started watching this thinking it was going to appeal on different levels but it just turned into a teen pop video with an inane storyline. The teens won't be interested in the Mother's story and the older viewers won't be interested in the teen angst. Very disappointing.
The Tax Collector (2020)
Terrible
This film is just BAD! Awful acting, awful story, just AWFUL! Shia LaBeouf does not even save this. Don't bother!
Normal People (2020)
Heartache-ingly brilliant!
Beautifully written characters and amazing acting. I LOVED this! I hadn't read the book this was adapted from but now want to and couldn't imagine anyone else being Marianne & Connell. Daisy Edgar-Jones' beautiful doe eyes and Paul Mescal's soulful gaze. I was mesmerised by the chemistry between these two. Very few love stories make my heart actually ache! I cried my way through 6 hours of this brilliance!
Joker (2019)
Oscar for Joaquin!
This was a brilliant film! A difficult watch, but a very important film that shows how mental health and childhood trauma can affect a person's life choices. Joaquin Phoenix was amazing! A true method actor, his depiction of the person that becomes the Joker was breathtaking. It was a travesty that he was never nominated for an Oscar for Walk the line but this will be a travesty if he doesn't win it.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
A terrible insult!
I was so disappointed in this film! I love the 60s era, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and DiCaprio and was excited about the stellar cast and look and feel of this film. What a waste! Boring, long, pointless and self indulgent! The Sharon Tate murders were dealt with in appallingly bad taste! Basically, Tarantino changed history! Imagine the family of the murdered people watching this film?! How insulting! After this, and the dreadful The Hateful Eight, I'm done with Tarantino!
Gold Digger (2019)
Soooo bad
This was so long, drawn out, pointless and horrifically badly acted. What a waste of several hours!
The Favourite (2018)
Rubbish
There were a few things that were ok with this film but lots wrong with it. Costumes were great, acting good but there was no story really.. plus the music was abysmal, particularly the Jaws style plucking of some stringed instrument for about 30 minutes. When it ended I had to wake him indoors up.
Dirty John (2018)
Utter pile!
Had I not known this was based on a true story, I'd have thought this was unbelievable. So corny and naff in so many ways. Juno Temple and Julia Garver who play the bratty daughters were particularly cringe! Especially the voices! I think they modelled themselves on the even more annoying Kardashians! Yet again, Netflix over hyped, over long rubbish!
You (2018)
Overhyped and badly written
Another Netflix overhyped pile of badly acted, unbelievable drivel.
Pure (2019)
Original and quirky
Really like this programme! It's funny, original and quirky. I like the fact that it deals with a non stereotypical version of OCD. I like the characters, in particular the lead, Marnie. Worth a watch.
Sex Education (2019)
Don't get it?
What decade is this supposed to be set??? Starts out as if it's late 70s then 80s then god knows when!? Terminology like 'monged' and 'vegan' weren't used then at all. Then they talk about CGI and porn hub yet live in really dated houses! Just stupid! Netflix are just churning out tripe now!
Escape at Dannemora (2018)
Could've been done as a film
Did we really need 8 hours to tell this story? Too long and drawn out.
Safe (2018)
Absolutely awful!
Badly written, stupid plot, basic police procedures ignored, hammy acting, far too many episodes. Was excited Michael C Hall was in a new series, but so disappointed! Absolute rubbish!
