a great disservice to Christians everywhere
16 October 2016
first i want to mention i'm an orthodox and that i could not bear to see the movie more than 30 minutes.

the good guys in this move have a very puritanical presence. they seem so very calm and also seem a bit retarded. dialogues are very limited, predictable. they want to sound deep but end up laughable.

i believe this movie does a great disservice to Christians. the dialogues sound like members of a sect are talking. it makes faith look very shallow and almost weird. it makes the believers look very dumb and narrow minded.

lee me distill it a bit further. if i would not be a Christian i would think that Christians are a dubious sect, a little slow in the head and would look at it with doubt.

trash movie, scoring is rigged

Warning: Spoilers
well... to sum it up: waste of time!

acting is bad, plot inexistent, exploding heads, violence just for the sake of it, people running around in some mysterious nonsense race, great body chick not showing any nudity... :) i went on a team building a little time ago. among others we made few short movies using cheap cameras, some costumes. we did the acting, directing and editing. our movies were decent compared to this!

i'm wondering how this movie can have 5+ rating. seems 55% of the voters gave it a 8,9 and 10. 9% gave it a solid 1. i can't see how this many people would consider this a masterpiece! i'm suspecting foul play. somebody related to this did some pr stunt. waste of time! it's so bad it's not worth it pirating even!

boring... sooo boring. yawn!

Warning: Spoilers
i gave it a three because the cgi is rather nice... like game nice, not movie nice. have to say that i'm been drifting towards less appreciation for Hollywood stuff as they go to the worse. they've gotten so bad that it hurts to watch. this movie i could not stand after an hour and a quarter. it's really bad! the guys are in military but they do as they feel like as go towards a cowboy attitude and act on impulse. they even fight over a girl... lol! all is high tech and rusty... dang. the dialogs are cheesy and shallow. the cgi is almost nice but is more towards mediocre. the robots have some k1 moves. don't get why the robot in the hangar is dripping stuff out of their hands. don't get the use of the jet engine in the chest of the robot. the guys pull the "main" power cord but they still have control of the robot. the robot seems to be so weak (made of titanium and stuff) compared to the beasts. why do we need two pilots in sync to control a robot!? the robot does basic moves. has weapons... seems a lot simpler than a fighter. some 4 choppers carry one big ass robot!? and then they drop it! if they did that they would risk breaking them because of the shock. you just don't drop a big load out of a helicopter. they say that the core of the robot (not sure and don;t dare to watch it again) is made out of pure iron, "no alloy". pure iron is actually soft and alloys can create really tough materials. purity does not equal strength. all is so oozing with cowboyish attitude, cheap drama, almost mediocre cgi, no structure, not close to believable. the movie has a long stretch of time when nothing happens. actors are bad, except the gold shoes guy. i could go on and on but i will stop as i wasted enough of my time with this movie. if you make use of your brain the slightest, you will want to keep clear of this piece of disappointment.

gravity around idiotic science and not much else
8 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
my movie is paused at minute 43 and i will stop watching as i can't take it anymore. this is not meant as a critic to the movie, but as a "stay away" warning to anyone wanting to see a decent sf movie and not feel insulted. the movie starts with some mind numbing explanation of gravity, but not the gravity, but the gravity in the movie. we have two planets hovering one on top of the other, staying in constant sync. the explanation is intended to be romantic and seems scientific but it's plain bad. matter is attracted only by the world it came from, like gravity cares about the source of the matter. the sun is shining between the planets so they should have really short days but they do not. the guy applies some anti-aging cream, made from bees, on a flabby mask. he checks if the formula is right by staring at it and putting it on the face of a dog! the face of the dog any the flabby plastic face get lifted. the drama scenes are sooo overdone, the actors scream and exaggerate and dramatic scenes end being so false. the start narrative is also lame, wanting to emphasize the "feeling" of the story, but again sound like a spoon beaten against a pot... meaning unharmonious. :) there are the clichés of "evil corporation", cheap oil taken from the poor etc. there are a lot of scneses exploiting the gravity thing, but it just makes the whole thing more ridiculous and unbelievable. i know it's a science fiction movie but it's as smart as one would say "red is blue" and all would reference this "brilliant" idea. the scenery seems nice and the up side down perspective seems interesting but it gets old fast as the movie fails to develop any character or relation. all "gravitates" :) around marvelous, magnificent, extraordinary and brilliant idea of messed up gravity.

little extra was needed to make this quite good
13 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
as others said... there is potential to this. 4 guys (3 dudes and a chick with big top) plan a heist and drive a bad ass car. they have the idea to make some tourists piggy back the loot... not sure how they stashed 4 mil in that bag... then they decide to run them off the road in plain daylight... when the family had no idea. this is where things get ilogical and stretched badly. they attack the woman, who is alone in a hotel room and she manages to fight them off. she also knows how to shoot a ak47 but this is another story. this somehow managed to keep me till the end hoping it would get better... it did not. the story has twists and turns but they are forced, some are quite interesting, but then they exaggerate and spoil the fun. thing is that this movie could have been quite good and it wasn't missing much, but they could not resist and traded good story for blood, violence, highly implausible etc.

with a tent of realism but get old and very cliché
10 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
first of all i must say that my vote of 4 does not mean that the movie is horrendous or too bad but it's my take so here it goes. it started with that all American happy, have it all (iphone, Mac, ithing). the boy is leaving for college, the girl is a teenager and is going to a good school, with good kids that you see in American family movies. dad works for big company, mom also works. girl chats using her apple arsenal to a guy. all is sweet and happy. then she finds out that the guy is older and older and she then accepts to meet him. then she anyway meets with him and they make almost consensual sex. and then dad goes nuts and everything goes into a drama where father is so much affected. a big drama is made on this. the father, the mother, the detective, the school shring start agitating around the girl. to me it got old after the first where i felt that all was so exaggerated and to much around the 14 years old girl. she was tricked by an older man and that is not something nice but i felt that too much fuss was done because of all this unfortunate happening. all is boringly plausible to the fact that the detective is not able to find out more about the pedophile, even if he could get months of internet chat records. the girl had photos of the guy but this somehow is not used. this is realistic... if you believe the all happy American familily image, however things are too much dragged on and too much accent is put on the educational side. may be a useful movie to see for a parent or a teenager but it gets sloow and grinding too fast

Vacancy (2007)

good parts but fails to impress
16 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
just seen this movie. i am quite angry because i wasted my time so you know my general impression. now... let me tell you from the start that i'm not a big fan of "blood on the wall" movies where the story is ignored and all you get is mindless violence, gore and junk like that. i like to see a story in a movie and this movie has almost none.

so the movie has some nice potential to start with. the atmosphere is dark. some guys get off the main road and their car breaks and they end up at a creepy, in the middle of nowhere, motel. this is what you know form the movie description. the clerk is strange, the room is crap and strange, someone starts banging on the walls so the atmosphere is building up. the guys panic, they discover some more strange stuff and that contributes to the atmosphere. so this was building up, but...

---moderate spoilers--- there are numerous scenes where the couple hugs and tell each other how much they love each other... when the sickos are on to them and trying to hack them. the banging walls and door are nice but unrealistic as they seem to be a formidable obstacle even when they are made of plywood and glass. the buildings are the kind you see in America only made out of cardboard. the guy survives stabbing a whole night and is left in the open even if the sickos seem to hide everything. the part that made me stop the film was the super lame scene where one of the sickos has 3 chest wounds and the woman frisks him and he is still alive shot three times in the chest... so... you know the rest... another lame thing is that this guys, sickos and victims, run around like mad cows and defy logic at times. another thing that is dumb is that the woman gets beaten up by a skinny short sicko, her own size, and she does not throw a punch at him, while being thrashed around. also the man also does not seem to care to arm himself with a stick even and neither the woman.

the movie could have been sort of nice even if the base story was used so many times. has some nice parts, builds the atmosphere etc. the execution however fails to carry its own weight.
