Humans (2015–2018)
10/10
An excellent allegory of the civil rights movement
5 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The robots (Synths) achieve consciousness and suffer at the hands of the Humans who cannot accept the synths as equals. It's a direct allegory of slavery and civil rights in the US. Mia and Max choose to resist the oppression through non violence (like MLK). Niska and Anatole however favor a violent resistance (Like Malcolm X). Max leads the synths that are restricted to an abandoned warehouse. This is a parallel to Indians being removed from white mans society and confined in reservations.

Laura defends the Synths legally and tries to gain equality for them. Laura is mistreated by her fellow humans as if she had sided with an enemy.

Many commentators here are critical the series is dark and portrays humans as bigoted. But isn't that how we have acted throughout history, persecuting others simply because they appear to be "different'.

As humans we are inhuman when we act in a tribal fashion. Who are the most humane of all? The humans or the synths?

When AI life forms come to exist, we will most likely attack them as a threat to our humanity.

Locked Down (I) (2021)
7/10
Almost stopped watching, glad I didn't
17 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first 30 minutes or so of the movie wasn't all that engaging. Watching people talk on Zoom isn't great. But once the real dialog started things improved quickly.

The end didn't make much sense, abandoning the courier van next to Harrods would have raised suspicion and an investigation. Why didn't they execute the plan as agreed, no one would have been wiser. How did they cash in their ill-gotten gains during lock down?

Good movie, would make a good series.
20 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The acting by Noomi Rapace was awesome. It wasn't until after the movie was over and I looked up who was in the movie did I realize a single person played the part of seven sisters. Well acted and well disguised.

It had all the elements of a good movie, intrigue, suspense, action, love affair, betrayal and sex/nudity.

There were a few spots in the movie that were done poorly. One where a sister severed her finger in a skateboard accident. The image of her severed finger was very poor CGI. Another bad scene was when two of the sisters were trying to escape the building they lived in, they essentially escaped by the fire exit at the back of the building. The crack team pursuing them didn't guard all exits prior to launching their attack?

All in all I really liked the movie. It would make a good series where there is more time to examine how the sisters could disguise their true identities despite inevitable injuries and illness.

Casino Royale (2006)
10/10
Lots of action, Keeps you guessing to the end.

Big departure from previous Bond movies. No silly humor. No silly evil people, plenty of snakes in the grass though! It's actioned packed. The most quiet scenes are during Poker sessions which are interspersed with plenty of action. The opening chase scene is a little too fantastic, the rest of the movie is more reasonable. Bond's scars heal at a truly bond like pace, it wouldn't be bond if it didn't push the envelope a little.

A female M played by Judi Dench is an interesting change also. Bond still has his Aston Martin, equipped with 'believable' gadgets.

This is the best Bond movie I have seen in a long time, I think we can safely say Bond is back!

Firewall (2006)
6/10
Pretty Average but entertaining nonetheless
12 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Plenty of action in this movie to keep you awake, but one doesn't leave the theater with any special feeling like a good movie leaves you with. Hardly thought provoking. It's difficult to 'attach' yourself to any of the characters (well except maybe for the dog). Why the movie is entitled 'Firewall' is mystery to me.

Harrison Ford heads up the 'perfect family'. Successful businessman and husband, good looking wife, son, daughter and a dog. Ford's secretary is one of the main characters from the TV show 24, you know the girl that always looks like she is in pain (and probably is).

There are some problems with the storyline. How for instance did Ford reverse 10,000 thefts of $10,000 from the banks top 10,000 customers with just 4 hand typed commands? The original theft was for 100Million, but apparently only 80 million was stolen and subsequently returned. Why did the cops usher the 'getaway car' away when responding to a bank robbery at the airport, especially since Ford ran to it looking stressed? Not very believable.

My wife liked the movie, so for non techies the inevitable errors are apparently of no consequence. I did like the portrayal of Ford as a very competent technical manager who had his wings clipped as a consequence of an unfriendly merger, very believable, I felt his pain.

None of the good guys got hurt too bad while all the baddies got what was coming to them. The dog was rescued like you'd expect with any 'good movie', all together now.... ahhhhhh.

The Perfect Neighbor (2005 TV Movie)

YAWN - Too slow, Too simple
22 January 2006
This movie moved at a snails pace and the story line was way too simple to be interesting, in fact many threads they could have continued were dropped.

Donna committed several murders but seemed to attract no attention from Police. In fact the police only briefly got involved while all the dead bodies continued to pile up.

Typical 'TV movie'.

Acting was reasonable, let down by the story line. No real suspense or thrills here, way too predictable. Donna the murderess used a floppy disk which kinda made the Movie seem dated before its time.

Sorry, but I don't have much positive to say about this movie.
