Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Underwhelmed Overstayed Overpaid Overall Crap
Don't buy into this. Not QT's best...one of his worst. Rambling, long, boring, waiting for anything to happen...some fun little teasers here and there to spark interest but overall BAD. If you are looking at a true account of the Tate/Manson Family murders this is not it-2hours and 53 minutes of boring.
The Lion King (2019)
If anything CG is unreal
I can see why a lot of people gave this a bad review but I actually liked it I went in with very low expectations and came out feeling pause that of and happy it is a feel good film it's visually beautiful there is no violence there is no guns or bombs are screaming it's a visually beautiful movie with a very predictable storyline.
Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All (1994)
A Must See or Read
I recently watched the Netflix version (does anyone know if it was edited a lot...curious...never saw full mini series on TV)and really enjoyed it. This is a must see. I found this to be one of the most romantic and endearing stories about respect, love, loyalty and the sanctity of marriage. These days portrayed in the story are long gone and they will never return. The cast did an incredible job: Donald Sutherland and Diane Lane were amazing together! Sutherland plays a Southern gentleman/heal/charmer and after reading the book there is no one that I can imagine in that role but he. Diane Lane, Cicely Tyson, Anne Bancroft, lets not forget Blythe Danner who in my opinion stole every scene she was in! Incredible cast, amazing storyline it was a joy to watch and made me want to read the book. I read the book to get some detail and to see if there were any signifigant differences and there is so much detail and some differences but the mini series really took the basics and created a visual masterpiece from an incredible story. I recommend seeing it twice because there are some scenes where it is hard to understand due to the Southern Drawl accents and what-not. Now that I think about it why a 9 instead of a 10? I may have decided that there were some scenes that could have been left out but for the most part I was really enjoying myself.
Jiminy Glick in Lalawood (2004)
The Invention of a Brilliant Character
One of the best qualities that Martin Short has is his development of great characters.
Giminy Glick is one of them. The potential for Glick to be around for a long time and have continued success is his inability to do a professional (by Hollywood standards) good interview, his crazy personal life (which should be a movie all by itself) and his upward climb of the Hollywood ladder.
What I liked most about the movie was what was described above. At any point in the movie where the above takes place, was at it's most brilliant and funny.
Why 5 stars: There was a lot more potential for the movie to be better. I would have loved to see more of Glick being around celebrities. To me that is the best part.
I found the sub characters uninteresting, EXCEPT for Glick's wacky family. The cast was exciting to me unfortunately the character's they portrayed were less than exciting.
See it you may like it I did. For Martin Short fans it is a must see.
Tom Jones (1963)
Don;'t know what all the fuss is about
For 37 years I have heard the name Tom Jones. The title comes up a lot, in review books, commentaries...and I have finally watched the movie and boy was I disappointed.
I almost felt like I was watching a College final thesis movie. What's bad? Hard to understand dialogue, been there done that plot, horrible cinematography and hype.
Redeeming qualities: Albert Finny looks his best. He has never been more handsome in a role. Susannah York, also beautiful. Great costumes and some authentic realistic scenes.
Overall I could not wait for the movie to end. Watch it on TV but don't purchase this one unless it's on a used VHS rack for .99!
The New World (2005)
One of the best if not the best of 2005
I cannot describe enough as to how much this movie moved me. I have been obsessing about it since I saw it last night and contemplating seeing it again tonight! Between the way the movie was filmed, the perfect cast, the acting, everything was close to perfect. I am a huge Terrence Malick fan and this movie only reassures me that he is one of my favorite directors. I loved the music, the pantomime, the accuracy of that time period in the world. Malick and his actors performed so well I felt as though I was there too. I gave this movie a 9 rating due to the fact it was at times a bit slow BUT I found myself not wanting it to end. I would have liked to have seen more development of the Rolfe/Rebecca union but I was still so effected by this film I was crying before the last 1/2 hour left. Malick's films have that effect on me.
