Troll (2022)
Decent enough film
You're not going to get a deep philosophical epic here but you should know that.
Its a decent monster story, if it were US made then i imagine a lot of its flaws would be overlooked as schlock or B- Movie charm
parts of this are a bit too slow paced or veering a bit too close of the line of homage and copying.
The death of the father seemed a bit rushed, as did the resolution of 'oh i thought someone would come' as if it were some mountain hideaway with a grail not the actual Norwegian Palace in the middle of the capital
I have to write more to submit this but i am kind of finished to be honest.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021)
It's a good film BUT
It's a good film BUT, why did it take roughly seven months to be released in the UK? It can't be re-recording the language.
This is what bugs me about films being a needless staggered release, the industry repeatedly does things like thanking people for viewing in cinema or buying media but things like this only fuel the people finding things via alternative means. Which would harm films such as this being made
The film itself is quite moving & an allegory for palliative care of an elderly relative.
It's well shot but there are some weird suspensions of belief in everyone just accepting a sentient shell.
Morbius (2022)
This film has been hate bombed
People were already prepared to hate this film so just low rated it - it's a decent CBM & trust me Sony has done far worse.
I have to hit 150 characters apparently.
Music (2021)
Disregards any Autistic input
This film is a mockery of Autism, when faced with criticism Sia chose to be abusive.
The lead was seemingly uncomfortable that it'd be viewed as mocking & it is
This film is dressed as a telling of an autistic story but quotes suggest story ranges from never considering an autistic actor through to considering one, having a work environment which prohibited them & rather then changing it, just cast a frequent collaborator
An apology also only seemed to appear after award nominations & things like earnings or removing scenes don't seem to have been done
Holmes & Watson (2018)
Everyone involved in this film should feel shame
This is beyond terrible, a real low point in careers
The Meg (2018)
MEG(a) Disappointment
I had decent hopes for this film, It looked like a great summer blockbuster, they've cast an action hero actor, its a massive shark & an underwater research facility, what could go wrong? - this looked to be Deep Blue Sea meets Jaws, sadly it was not this and was more a humourless Sealab 2021 than either of those two
Reading the differences between the film and the book, I really wish they'd stayed more faithful. e.g. from trivia here: 'In the book, Jonas kills the Meg by driving down its throat and landing in its belly, then ripping out the its heart from within. In the movie, Jonas slashes the Meg across the belly and lets hundreds of sharks devour it.'
I saw this in 'Screen X' a new to the UK screen type with two screens on the left and right wall of the screen, This in no way enhances the film, in fact i'd go so far as to say maybe use this once for the novelty aspect but then never again - the screens could have been used FAR better and maybe used to show underwater life float past you, this wasn't done and the screens come on/off periodically rather than staying on throughout the film so they also give away that there is an important scene coming up, i also foresee that those screens will become VERY noticeably grime ridden as they become older unless they're cleaned specifically & in truth cant see that occurring.
Overall Statham Statham's very well and cant fault him but as a film this just underwhelms so badly given the hype it generated
3.5/10 but can't give half stars
The Festival (2018)
If you like the Inbetweeners, You'll like this
This is very similar to The Inbetweeners, The lead is obviously a core cast member and his love interest is the same actress who played that role in the TV series so, there is a kind of loose continuity there in the roles if not the characters themselves.
The standout stars of this film aren't those characters though, they're the supporting cast: Hammed Animashaun as Shane, Claudia O'Doherty as Amy & Jemaine Clement as Robin
Amy & Shane have a side adventure which is easily the better of the two main ones, the other appears to just be a reversal of everything you saw in the prior montage to now show Nick as having the fun he previously didn't with Shane & Amy.
Probably not going to do much for Druid relations though with the whole Goat sex scene & probably going to offend those with shellfish allergies with the exaggeration aspect - Peter Rabbit had a backlash to the blueberry scene iirc
In short this film is an unofficial Inbetweeners 3: 'Simon Goes To A Festival Without Jay,Will & Neil'
