Lady in the Water (2006)
Embarrassing Disappointment
I was anticipating an intriguing film that M. Night Shyamalan has not delivered since SIGNS, but I was disappointed to see another embarrassment and waste of talent with this film. I was deeply bored and disappointed with THE VILLAGE, but at least that film had a point to it. This film, had NO POINT! The interactions between characters serves no purpose to the film's plot, least of all the Critic (whose last words made me question what possessed Shyamalan to write this film). Story's mission to go home serves no purpose but to lengthen the film. The fairy tale itself is poorly constructed and random. May this film serve as a message to Shyamalan to go back to the style and strength of his masterpieces (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE, and SIGNS) for his new films.
The Lost City (2005)
Perfection
That is the one word that can describe this movie. This film truly gives a remarkable portrayal of the events leading up and after to the Castro Revolultion. This is a labor of love for a Cuban-American actor, writer, and director for all his people and should be appreciated by the masses. While it discusses a political rhetoric, it is complemented by a painful love story between a man, his brothers, his parents, and the woman of his life. Even for people who know extensively of the history of Cuba, this is definitely something worth seeing for aesthetic reasons as well. Andy Garcia has done a remarkable piece of work and a great homage to the Cuban people. As a Cuban-Colombian-American living in Miami, this film means a lot to me and to many others. !Viva una Cuba libre!
V for Vendetta (2005)
Fantastico
No words could describe this movie. The Wachowskis did a brilliant job that has shown the true power of American cinema. This film deserves any honor when nominated for it. It's also a good message to politicians everywhere around the world to not mess with the people, because they will get angry! Furthermore, this movie also heralds fantastic acting from the tortured little kids to the secret lives of men and women. It is also an emotional film that will drive anyone who watches it to stop criticizing this beautiful world we live, despite its faults and blemishes. The film pictures beautifully the extent of human desires, fears, and hopes. Perfect ten.
