Only good things about it were the landscapes and animals
20 January 2023
Rave reviews by the critics - I should have smelled a rat! Yes it was beautifully filmed and the farm animals were adorable. The donkey should have got Best Actor in the Golden Globes, though(!) Not to say that Farrell and Gleeson are bad actors, but this was shoddy material. The plot made zero sense and was in extremely bad taste, in my view. And now this film was given a Golden Globe for Best Film! This disturbs me in that it could lead to more film makers thinking that they can also get away with such offensive nonsense. If the award was given for the cinematography then OK, well deserved, but of course it wasn't just that, unfortunately. I can deal with depressing films if they have a point and a compelling story. This had neither and, suffice it to say, that this turgid travesty of a 'film' left me in a bad mood.

Disappointing
5 January 2023
A cinema buddy recommended this to me. Now, I am all for films with few characters and not much happening but this was DULL. There was no mood or interesting style to it and the little girl started getting on my nerves. I don't want to watch kids playing video games in a crappy resort. It just did not go anywhere. I left after 40 minutes because it was so boring. I think the main problem was the somewhat disjointed style and lack of build-up of characters. You just didn't care about them. Like several of the reviews here, yes, it was like watching someone's home video of their holiday, and there wasn't even any interesting sightseeing. If there was a deep meaningful point to this, then I didn't get it. Yet there are plenty of 'meaningful' films which I DO get, so I don't think it's me.

Puerile and unfunny
22 August 2022
This is being shown on BBC Entertainment in Austria where I live. It is completely unfunny, childish and puerile. There have to be elements of reality for a sitcom to be amusing, and this is seriously lacking.

Reminded me of the poorer episodes of 'One Foot in the Grave' - a comedy which had its moments but outstayed its welcome.

Stupid and a waste of time!

Mildly engaging if you're a young New Yorker

Contrary to reviews, I did not find this film funny in the least. And why make it in black and white? To kid people that it's an 'arthouse' film? It's not.

Frances got on my nerves with her 'loser' attitude. Also her friends got on my nerves. But then, twenty-somethings will probably find much to enjoy.

Not my thing.

Awful

I only watched a bit of this while channel flipping. It was so stupid and unfunny with a terrible laughter track. If Germans find this hilarious, no wonder their 'sense of humour' is warped. It seems to consist of unrelated short sketches with slapstick and this silly woman shouting nonsense. About as funny as having teeth pulled. Avoid.
