Moon (2009)
A one man show that fails on every cinematic level
It is quite ironic that this movie resolves around clones since you can't help wondering during this low budget movie from how many movies "Moon" was cloned: "2001" and "Solaris" come to mind quickly but this movie is nowhere near their uniqueness.
It is a one man show of Sam Rockwell and he misses the spot completely by switching between comic and dramatic acting, confusing the viewer during long pointless scenes.
The real problem is Kevin Spacy who gives an annoying voice to a HAL-like super smart computer. It takes about two minutes before you wish for some windows error, maybe even a blue screen of death.
I love Sci-fi movies, I can really enjoy a slow movie but this one is the stuff yawns are made from. Unfortunely it is a sadly boring movie.
3/10 only because David Bowie once wrote "Space Oddity".
Straight Right (2000)
What makes a man, a man ?
The story of Caleb (the protagonist of the movie) is the story of every decent man who reads the newspaper or watches the TV and sees all the atrocities which are happening around. But while most of us just shake our heads in frustration since there is nothing we can do about it, Caleb is different.
Caleb is a boxing champion, married to a beautiful wife, getting ready for the match of his life. But the real fight is on the streets, where fathers abuse their children, where the strong take on the weak. Caleb can't stand on the side and just watch those things without taking action. At night, he goes out to be the vigilante we all need. Not in a Batman style of way but in a true, human effort to try and change the world with the power of his fists.
But alas, this modern film-noir mixed with Greek tragedy becomes complicated as strong morale questions are raised.
A perfect 10 of acting, directing and production makes this movie a classic beauty which you probably haven't seen yet.
Judgment Night (1993)
Good Suspense, Killer Soundtrack - Fine Combination
Growing up in the 90's wild side (even in a far country such as Israel) makes me quite passionate about this movie that had mixed alternative grunge with new hip hop not only in the soundtrack. But, I have to admit, the first credit do go to the soundtrack : The opening piano score of Faith no More and Boo Ya Tribe's "Another Body Murdered" is breath taking.
And the movie... back than, it rocked. High Tension, Dennis Leary's first major entry and that scary thought of "what would I do ?". Today, I might seen better but still, "judgement Night" can teach a lot of very recent movies a thing or ten about how to create unpredictable suspension through most of the movie.
Two middle fingers up (in the name of the lost rebellious teen-hood). ex-rocker
Fausto 5.0 (2001)
Hypnotizing intelligent horror movie
Oh, How I wish all horror movies would be like Fausto 5.0 The movie reminded me of Jackob's Ladder, It was beautifully arranged and has a breathtaking scenes. It's a tale about a doctor, who specializes in terminal patients. On his way to a medical convention, he runs into a strange David lynch kind of character who keeps following him. From there we go through a series of half dream half reality occurrences which also has the most artistic sex scene I've ever scene.
The movie isn't too scary, It's the atmosphere which is creepy. The soundtrack also adds to the movie peak points. This movie is a must for every Lynch or Jackob's Ladder fans. Go and see it
