Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Running from sharp objects
Help...I'm so depressed right now. So depressed. So I guess the Coens like folk music, huh? I've gotta great idea-- watch this and "A Serious Man" back-to-back and if you make it until tomorrow without...well...ending it all, treat yourself to "Fargo" and "Raising Arizona" tomorrow night. You deserve it.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Mistaken theme
Movies theme: Money equals happiness. It's boring and just plain wrong. But very American.
Searching (2018)
Flew under my radar
I feel like an idiot for passing over this great suspense/thriller for the past two years. I was probably prejudiced by "Dark Web" movies, but as an avid thriller watcher who may be a bit jaded I was thoroughly impressed with this from the first minutes.
Not only is it loaded with gripping suspence and back-handed twists, but also builds a white-knuckle tension rarely seen in movies today. "Searching" holds your attention as well as "Gone Girl" or "Prisoners". Also, maybe the best directing I've seen this year. You WILL get angry with anyone who tries to distract you while you're watching this.
Tabernacle 101 (2019)
Resist the temptation!
Acting: 0
Production: 0
Plot: 1
Fear Factor: 0
I cannot find one redeeming aspect to this embarrassing let down. The actors, director, et al should be punished. I feel like I've been conned. How high were the people who gave this anything more than a 2 rating?
Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
A waste
There's not enough LSD on the planet to make this movie interesting. It's as pretentious as the New York art scene it uses as it's vehicle. You can't win them all, Netflix.
