An American Haunting (2005)
Check out this film!!
Want to see something historical, chilling, thrilling, and entertaining...then you must catch An American Haunting. A film about the Bell Witch haunting which took place in the 1800s.....actually it's the only recorded case in history where a spirit has caused death to a human being. Lots of great scenes in the woods after dark, the creaking of the stairs, the noises, and that black wolf with the piercing yellow eyes. Under the direction of Courtney Solomon.....Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek and Rachel Hurd-Wood all do an amazing job telling this story. It's refreshing to see good acting, a real story line, and a film that actually moves forward and builds in action and suspense. You really care about these characters and feel for their torture. I also think the ghost did an amazing job...almost another character in the story....lets give much respect to them for keeping us on the edge of our seats. I also felt the music which was an original score by Caine Davidson....really added to the excitement and drama of this film. I believe in ghosts and you will too after seeing this film. Yes this is a movie for all ages.
Scary Movie 4 (2006)
Fun and entertaining
I had heard the buzz about this film being a bit crappy, but had to go check it out anyways. I have to admit that I laughed out loud a lot throughout the film. The plot involves Cindy Campell, star of all the previous Scary movie films, moving into a new house. But there are bigger problems than the job of house cleaning, as she soon find out her house is haunted by a little boy. To make matters worse, alien "TrIpods" are taking over the world. How is she ever going to escape this scenario? Scary movie 4 is filled with laughs, but cheap laughs as you would expect from a Scary Movie film, but it doesn't make it not fun to watch. So if you find yourself bored with nothing to do...why not see a funny flick. Definitely entertaining and will pass the time. My vote for this film is 6 out of 10.
Crash (2004)
nothing in life is an accident
Crash Wow the movie of the year! OK I can see why this film made the top ten list, but why did it get film of the year? Maybe because their was some greater lesson in the film....life, relationships, honesty, truth, real situations, greed and power......I guess these are the factors that make a film great. I liked the story line, and the plot was rich....eventually all the characters were intertwined with each others lives. I guess I have to see it again to appreciate it. All of the characters changed in some way, their was a lesson learned and we follow them on this journey. It is the most boring thing in the world when you don't care about a character or watch them for 2 hours and they don't change. Yet this film did both for me. When a movie wins an Oscar....I ask what is this telling the general public.....maybe that there is a lesson within this film that we all can learn from. Nothing in life is an accident. My vote is 6 out of 10 for this film.
Dark Water (2005)
Dark movie....too much water
Dark Water The remake of the Japanese horror thriller.....yes quite chilling at times, but a bit depressing and dark as well. When the main character moves her and her daughter to Roosevelt Island for the better rent and bigger space factor....strange things start happening in their building. The mystery starts with the super of the building being a bit of a creep and you immediately suspect him for any wrong doings in the building. When they start hearing noises from an upstairs apartment and oh course enter to check it out......this holds our suspense for the moment. This film is about a leak from an unknown source......it almost gets annoying....like move out already!!! I don't know about any of you but if these crazy things started happening in my building....I would be out of their so fast.....their are ways out of a lease!! It makes Roosevelt Island look like a very unappealing place to reside....and if you have ever been there....its really quite charming if you like the Truman show style life. For a bit of history Roosevelt Island use to be a place they shipped all the prisoners to....the worst criminals were jailed there. So there is a darkness surrounding it. The ending was the most disappointing part of this film for me.....I hate it when the ghosts or spirits win...if you will. So on a scale of 10....my vote for Dark Water is a 5.
