Escape from L.A. (1996)
same thing as before, just dumber
Stupid with no charm. Escape from NY was a better movie, why do the exact same thing but make it worse? This is a typical example of a problem in Hollywood, no imagination, make crap and hope for the big bucks.
Into the Wild (2007)
way too long
This movie is way way too long, 2 hours and 45 minutes? Could have been 1 hour and 45 minutes. That is what happens when an actor becomes a director and his ego thinks he can make a movie excessively long and people will love it.Typical hollywood mentality, excessive and overdone.A good director can make a long movie (Like The godfather for example) and make it flow.Slow and boring in spots, couldn't wait until it ended. Could have been much better.
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
Not really a war film
A great film, but not really a war film...the war seems to be more of a backdrop. The film is built mostly on the difference of ideas, East verses West. The character that Alec Guiness plays is compelling...torn between helping his men, or helping the war effort, more of a " do the here and now" or look ahead....we all seem to suffer to what commonly is known as short sightedness, and that what makes this a great character in a great film. William holden is very entertaining as a selfish, lying POW who goes through great changes from the beginning to the end of the film, definitely some of his greatest acting. This film still holds up to this day and is a definite classic, but in my opinion is definitely not a war film as I see it. If you want to see a film about war, see 1950's Battleground.
Mystery, Alaska (1999)
a pleasant surprise
I had no idea at the time that I would enjoy a movie about hockey, and I was right, because this movie had nothing really to do with hockey. It's a great character based movie about a small town that makes it big and the reason the town makes it big is because of it's people. It's a great rocky type movie that makes you root for a small town and it's wonderful characters. Russell Crowe is excellent as well as the entire cast and a great turn by Burt Reynolds as the town judge and coach. This is a very well crafted, witty , warm and realistic and just a charming movie overall. Don't let the hockey fool you, this is a movie about people and a quite enjoyable movie I may add.
