The Photograph (2020)
The Photograph, TBH...
I would like to say that I love Issa Rae work and was happy to go see her at the movies. Also, there would be a few other actors and actresses in the movie that made me going to see it a bonus. I definitely could see where the director or writers was going with this movie but unfortunately people this movie was a bit dry and very slow for me. Like I said I could see where the director was going with the idea but it didn't work for this moving, Issa love relationship didn't have enough time for it to develop for me to feel all giddy inside for her and him. I felt more giddy about the mother's love then lost love and the fact she was so heartbroken she didn't reveal to her love about their child. This is one of those movies I would watch once and wouldn't watch again. The cast was great but like I said the there wasn't enough to keep my attention. I really wanted to love this movie. I still will definitely go see her other movie coming out though!
The Turning (2020)
I loved this movie!
3.7...I don't know what everyone else was watching. Them kids was hilarious in one moment and sociopaths/psychopaths in the next. To make it even better is to put yourself in the tutor/nanny position, I would of been fed up too because the stuff the kids was doing you couldn't even punish them for, they found ways to drive her crazy, OR did they? Was the nanny/tutor crazy like her mother. The caretaker was creepy looking, and some of her punchlines had me dying laughing, like I hope whatever wrong with your mother hasn't rubbed off on you? The movie definitely started conversation after it was over... I enjoyed it very much and want to see it again. The reason I didn't give it a 10 is because I had to explain what happened to my Best friend, she was just a little confused on a few things. This movie basically ends how you want it to end. Psychopathic kids, or Paranoid Schizophrenic Nanny/Tutor...laughing off still!!
Gretel & Hansel (2020)
Maybe I missed something...
I know the story as a kid, and I went in expecting this to be scary and totally different from the story as a kid, the same as they have turned other childhood stories into horror films. This film missed a lot of opportunities to develop the story to make it a great horror film. It was very boring, confusing and not scary at all. It seem like it was a prequel to a much bigger story. I wouldn't waste my money going to the theater to see this, wait until it hits DVD or a streaming app.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
This is old school scary
The little girl wondering around the house, things moving, doors opening, Annabelle head appearing turned in different positions etc. Conjuring was scary but this was scarier because your looking to see what happens next or why that door is opening and it just gets your heart racing.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Great movie and a must see!
I like to think I'm a movie guru, but I must admit I didn't see "The Shining", but I did want to see it after watching this movie. I'm sure there is some little parts that would make more sense had I watched the movie. However, and this is just a guess, the little boy in "The Shining" is this Guy all grown up. I love movies written by Stephen King, and this one made the top with some of my other favorites. I wouldn't say this is a horror movie but more of a thriller movie. As soon as I watch the Shining, I plan to watch this movie again. To me it's like a puzzle, and I want to see the whole picture. I loved the movie, and it's definitely one movie that goes in my archive where I would watch over and over again.
21 Bridges (2019)
Good action movie!
The movie was kind of predictable, but it definitely kept me on my seat because there were no flat scenes. I found myself feeling bad for the bad guys because they were the patsies. I'm not saying they should of got away for their crimes, but I'm glad their death wasn't in vain because it helped bring down a corrupt system. It didn't take too long to figure who was the key players in the corruption. This was a good movie, but this just not my type of movie genre wise, so I still based my ratings on the movie itself.
Countdown (2019)
I Love it!
Given the times we are in with technology, this movie makes you think, what would you do? Personally I wouldn't have done it, but I'm not a Y.O.L.O type person lol. I love the hyper Priest, his character was funny and modern, not all serious. I thought the concept was original too. It's worth spending your money to go see. If anything you will enjoy a nice evening out.
The ABC Murders (2018)
What a good murder mystery!
If you are looking for a great murder mystery with a mountain of suspense, then this is the show for you. I got lost in this show for all 3 episodes. I found myself trying to figure out who was the real murderer and the connection between the detective, but of course it was nothing to level of what I thought. I definitely would recommend to my friends.
Wakefield (2016)
Failed ending
Here you have a man that's wondering if he's even loved by his wife and children. One evening after coming home from work, staring at his family in the garage after ignoring his wife repeated calls, decides he is not in the mood for an evening of arguments. So he decides to wait until his family is asleep to go inside his home, but falls asleep in the garage. To me this is where the crossroads begin, the nervous breakdown. He chooses to continue to live in the garage attic, at first maybe for a couple of days, which then turn into weeks then months. During this time he eats out the garbage and dumpsters of the area, steal moments to take a shower or bath from his neighbors basement or the nearby park. I never could understand why not eat from the house when his family is away than to eat out the garbage, but I guess that's to make the movie a little bit more disturbing.
I feel his interaction with the children from next door showed how humbled he become, after all they would be the ones to save his life from his near death experience with the cold winter he succumbed himself to. I was glad to see the neighbor didn't have any other motives but that of wanting to help mentally challenged children.
As each holiday pass that the family celebrates without him, it allows you to keep track of how many months go by. This is what keeps you drawn to the movie, the anticipation of what will happen when he inserts himself back home. How will his wife react? Will she divorce him to continue her relationship that she has rekindled with her husbands best friend? How will the twins receive him? What does he tell the police about his whereabouts? So many questions, right? Well we will never know, he gets a shower, groomed, some new clothes and walks in the door after seeing his family have a family dinner with his best friend the night before. The threat of another man was enough to send him home.
The movie wasn't a waste, it just left a huge cliff hanger at the end.
Kinky (2018)
Right idea but needs development
For a title called Kinky, once I saw where the storyline tried to go, I expected to see "kinkiness"! But as soon as something begins between the two, it cuts to the end of whatever they was supposed to be doing. There's no show and tell at all. Then to throw a monkey wrench at the very end, and boom, movie over. I feel like this movie was going for a Fifty Shades of Grey feel with a twist, but missed all the important points that kept movie goers coming back.
