Oppenheimer (I) (2023)

I've just finished watching this, I've been looking forward to seeing it as the cast list is great and I'm a fan of Cillian Murphy.

I can see why this film won so many awards but its not a film I would personally watch more than once. Firstly the film is way too long, the jumping back and forth in time is a little confusing and gets a bit tedious after a while.

I agree with others that the music is overly intrusive and gets in the way of some of the dialogue at times.

I stuck with the film as I wanted to see what happened but I won't be revisiting it again.

I've seen other films dozens of times and still enjoy them, this isn't one of those, it's a bit of a slow slog.

Yellowstone (2018– )

Wow, This is Great.

I've just binge watched all of the available episodes and can't wait for the final season to conclude, it's a shame that they aren't making anymore of I'm honest.

When I first started watching this I couldn't stand Beth,I found her annoying and a bit over the top. But as the story progressed I got to really like her, she's tough and takes no nonsense, plus she's easy on the eye.

I've read some of the negative reviews and yes some of it can be justified. But when I watch a TV show, I want to be entertained and I don't want to be lectured to on modern day issues. I really enjoyed this and the acting is great.

Elvis (2022)

Really Enjoyed This

I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but I really enjoyed this film. I found Tom Hanks portrayal of the Colonel a little irritating at times and he wasn't likable at all, but then again knowing what we know now, I think that was the intended purpose.

I know the film is fairly long but the career of Elvis in the early days seemed to be rushed through. I suppose that if it wasn't the film would be 4 hrs plus long.

In the end although I enjoyed the film I was left with an overall feeling of sadness.

It was such a shame the way that Elvis was exploited and manipulated if that's a true portrayal of events. I remember when he died but I was fairly young so much of the detail passed me by. I can't believe that he was only 42.

The guy who portrayed Elvis in the film did an unbelievable job.

Overall a good film and a sad insight into the life and demise of the King.

Full Swing (2023– )

Brilliant Stuff

I'm a keen golfer, I'm now retired so I play golf a lot, fortunately my wife also loves the sport and plays just as much as me.

I play it, watch it and try to improve constantly, much like many of the players highlighted in this documentary.

The difference is that I don't have millions in the bank, private jets and even though I try hard I'm still average at the game!

This is a fascinating look behind the scenes at the world of professional golf, I loved it.

Seeing some of the players that we see everyday on TV up close and personal and getting a look into their lives was eye opening.

I've now got much more respect for some of the players.

Some others less so, Tony Finau and Joel Dahman what lovely guys.

Rogue Heroes (2022–2024)

Love This, Great Entertainment

This is an excellent show with an awesome soundtrack.

After the first episode I have to admit that I wasn't sure about this show. It does get better, much better in fact and I'm now loving it.

Its based on the formation of the SAS during WW2, its loosely based on history with a bit of poetic licence thrown in for entertainment purposes.

One thing I will say is that the founders of the SAS were brave men and a little mad all at the same time.

The music that goes with the series is right up my street being a mix of rock and punk with songs from WW2 thrown in.

Although it's on the BBC there's no woke nonsense to spoil the entertainment.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Simply Awesome

I'm a huge Top Gun fan, the original is brilliant but with some flaws and mediocre bits thrown in.

I couldn't wait to see Maverick and it didn't disappoint, I saw it twice at the cinema and now have the digital copy at home.

It's simply brilliant and better than the original which is something that doesn't usually happen.

I've already watched it at home numerous times and it is still brilliant.

Cruise is awesome as Maverick and the whole film and story is ace, its funny in places, very serious in others and with Val Kilmer making an appearance after his health problems it's very poignant.

Get yourself a copy crank up the sound and be prepared to be blown away.

The Rookie: Enervo (2022)

Awful Episode

This and the previous episode are terrible. I know that they are introducing Simone as a spin off series but please no. She is really annoying the virtue signaling in the last episode was annoying and her inclusion in these two episodes was not good.

I like the Rookie overall and have watched it from the start, Bradford is brilliant.

Please stop with that annoying characters and trying to educate us over certain issues, that's what made me stop watching SWAT.

Please don't let the Rookie make the same mistakes, gritty stories I can handle, virtue signaling nonsense, I can't.

Magnum P.I. (2018–2024)

Great Show

I've watched this from the beginning, I wasn't sure at first having seen the original. It has really grown on me and now I really like it.

I've just watched the last episode of season 4 and was looking forward to season 5.

I've read online that it's not going to be renewed, I hope that's not true as it's a decent show.

What do programme makers think that we want to watch?

They should renew this, shame on them.

Forrest Gump (1994)

This is a Great Movie

This film may be quite a few years old now but it's still excellent. It's a feel good movie. I've seen it many times and I still enjoy it even after all these years.

It's well worth watching if you've not seen it, it's worth watching again even if you have seen it.

My wife wanted to watch this as she'd seen a trailer for it and it looked interesting. We watched the first episode and then gave up. I would have switched off after half an hour, my wife gave it a bit longer. We found the characters annoying and the whole show just not that interesting.

I Expected Better

I've looked forward to watching this for ages. I finally got to see it when Sky offered me a free trial of Apple TV. I have to say although I enjoyed it I expected more.

Firstly some of the special effects are poor, the battle scenes are good but there's not much else story wise to enjoy.

I much prefer the Cruel Sea.

Tom Hanks does a great job as always.

Why do Sky Make Such Terrible Films

I like Liam Neeson, his films are usually good or at least watchable. I'd seen the trailers for this and it did look decent.

Although Neeson did do a good job acting wise the story and film are predictable.

I've seen several Sky original pictures, why are they all so awful?

They are so bad that now I see Sky original and think rubbish, I've turned several off after 30 mins.

I stuck with this one but it wasn't great.

I've watched Billions from the start and I really enjoyed it. Since Damian Lewis left its just not the same, I know one person doesn't make a show and I really wanted to like it but somethings just missing so I've given up on it.

I have to say I enjoyed this. Its action packed and the story of the film is interesting. It's easy to watch although some of the characters do have some annoying traits.

I'd be happy if they made a sequel.

Don't expect too much from it and just enjoy the action.

My wife and I binge watched the whole series of this yesterday. Its very good. The acting and story are top notch.

I also found that it had some very funny moments in it also.

As an ex officer I found the characters realistic even if Martin Freeman's version of a police officer wasn't.

Very entertaining.

I love the Blizzard of Ahhs, when I found out that there was a sequel, well sort of, I couldn't wait to see it.

What a let down, yes it's got some good moments but it's full of filler and the magic of Blizzard just isn't there.

The Blizzard of AAHHH's (1988)

Simply Brilliant

I first saw this when skiing in Italy back in the day. They had it on in one of the bars there.

I was gobsmacked and bought the Vhs as soon as I got home.

This film is just the best ski film ever. Everything works, the music the skiing and the awesome scenery.

I've seen it dozens of times and never get bored, Hattrup, Plake and Schmidt gel so well together.

I've recently bought the ski film Steep as Ahhs came as a bonus disc. As it turns out both are awesome ski movies but I still prefer Blizzard overall.

Eddie the Eagle (2015)

I've now seen this many times, it's a heartwarming and light hearted film about Eddie Edwards.

It's fun and funny and shows just how determined he was to get to the Olympics.

He may have been poor when compared to the other competitors but he was a very brave man.

Having just watched this I'm left a bit annoyed. The film starts out well enough and it has some good moments, but the ending is terrible and it makes no sense.

This is a shame because overall I thought this was ok.

I've seen this film many times and I really like it. I don't understand the extremely negative reviews.

It's not gonna win any awards and yes its far fetched but as an action film its good entertainment and has some amusing scenes.

The scenes onboard the Mighty Mo are the most unbelievable, like a museum ship would have fuel and live ammo! That aside though its good entertainment, try not to think about it too much and just enjoy the movie and action.

I Enjoyed This

This film isn't going to win any awards but I enjoyed it and found it funny.

Jennifer Aniston was her usual gorgeous self but actually wasn't in it that much.

It's a typical gross out at times Christmas film where you don't need to think about it that much, just sit back preferably with a bottle of wine or a few beers and enjoy.

If you've seen the Day After Tomorrow then you've seen some of this. Much of this has echoes of that film but its a cheap imitation.

It's not awful but it's not great either.

Some might enjoy it but for me this is the perfect cure to insomnia!

No Time to Die (2021)

Good Film, But it Has Issues

I finally got to see this yesterday at the cinema. I hadn't heard much about it but I had read the directors comments on the previous Bond films!

Enough said about that nonsense.

When the film started I thought, what is this, this isn't Bond, then after a few minutes the first action sequence started, Bond at last.

On the whole the film is good but it has issues.

Bond is no longer 007, no that role is filled by a black female who is seemingly devoid of any likable traits, I don't care what colour she is, but Bond is 007, later in the film she relinquishes the number but why do that in the first place!

The plot of the film is decent and its got plenty of the action that we expect from Bond. There are deaths a plenty and that brings me to the biggest issue I had with this film. Bond never dies, yes he goes away and comes back as a different actor often with a slightly different personality etc.

If you like Bond we all know this was Craig's last outing in the role but to actually kill him off! WTF, that in my opinion is a huge mistake in fact massive! How can you have James Bond when we've all apparently just watched him die?

Unless of course he didn't but that would be slightly ridiculous and it will need some inventive writing to get around.

On the whole not a bad film and certainly better than Spectre, it is long but not boring, but it has issues, some of them major. Bond needs to get back to the familiar format that we all love, stop hiring woke director's that have their own agendas, otherwise Bond will not survive.

I've seen this film many times, it's excellent. The action scenes are good and the story line is quite clever in its delivery. Yes there's a few clichéd bits but on the whole it's excellent. Well worth watching.
