The Darkest Minds (2018)
Wasn't bad but wasn't great
I saw this movie show up on HBO and had some time to kill before bed. Story plot sounded interesting enough so figured why not. It opens up pretty good but found it to get pretty bland in the middle. Kids with powers and adults who want to use them for personal gain or kill them if too strong. Of course the kids just want to be kids. There's the good adults and the bad. There's a cute little love story and betrayal by one of their own. Then mix in some fight scenes to show off there powers and you have a movie. From what I read this was originally a trilogy of YA books and they left the end open to continue the story. This is nothing I'd run to the theaters to pay and see. But I would blow a couple hours if it happens to show up again on HBO, Showtime and so on. It feels like this type of story has been done kinda like a combo of X-Men, Hunger Games and Maze Runner. Also acting was pretty decent so that helped push this from the 5 I would of gave it.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Great musical
I'm normally not a fan of musicals but I truly enjoyed this one. If you're looking for a documentary and go in thinking it's just that, you'll be sadly mistaken. If you want a fun but heartwarming movie this is it. Songs are great and plot is well written. A very good Friday night movie with the family.
Wolves at the Door (2016)
Horrible
Don't waste your time. 70min of my life I'll never get back. Horrible "true story" adaption. Like others said, no plot or any build up. If it wasn't for the hints to it being about the manson family murders it's nothing more than people getting killed and a sad attempt at "jump scares"...Even with them tying it to the Manson family it gave nothing to this movie. If I could give 0 stars I would because it's not even worthy of the 1 it forces me to give.
Cam (2018)
Could of been great
So yes just like 80% of everyone else I'm disappointed in the ending. It would of been nice to have a few more clues to how her life got turned upside down over night other than faking the big O. I'm a fan of open endings but not to the point where you can fit a school bus. This was deff lacking a plot twist. The extra characters had no real purpose and her "friends" didn't seem a bit freaked even after Lola proved it wasn't just old vids. They could of easily done more with Tinker. Small hints to it being him all along. Him being a master hacker and taking over the girls shows leading others to believe the girls are alive. All while dragging them back to his home to murder them or have rooms with the "dead" girl's being forced to continue the shows. Not only for his sick fantasy but financial gain. Or him being the owner of the web cam company and over time he picks off the most popular girls. It would make sense to how he knew where Lola lived and knew about the other accounts. I mean maybe It was the cam company but why take out the ones who bring the most money? Why make fake copies to only kill them off in real life. It would make more sense to have them send a email saying there off to Hollywood to become a actress. Instead of a "freak" car accident. Less of a chance of family stumbling upon a video of there dead daughter made months after a death. Regardless it wasn't a horrible movie but nothing I would watch again. All up till the last 30min kept me entertained. After that I was left with a "that's It?" 5 stars for the leads acting and keeping me entertained for the first 45min.
