A waste of time
19 July 2022
This movie is incredibly boring, given that it is supposed to be thriller. It felt like someone is lecturing me about the right type of black politics in an extremely naive way. The acting is bad and the plot is just meh.

A soul hugging film
5 September 2021
If you love rivers, this film will speak deeply to you. Idyllic scenes cut by movingly poetic conversations, reminiscences of the past and future uncertainties.

Great potential with a disappointing ending
7 June 2021
This movie flirts heavily with literature through its structure, characters' development and more importantly through its narration. If life was a narrator, what kind of narrative would it tell? And what kind of a narrator would it be? Should we trust life when it gives us love and hope? Or should we dwell on misery cause we know we are destined to defeat and heartbreak?

Four people, two generations and two continents show us how the lives of disparate people can become so entangled. Although the philosophical and the literary question the movie pursues is very intriguing, the plot is disappointingly naive. The movie is almost schizophrenic. Its beginning and development make you feel you are in front of a great film, something that reminds you of stranger than fiction but way more melancholic. However, it feels like another director was responsible for how the movie ended.

It is not a waste of time but definitely not a gem either!

A must watch on the Spanish civil war
28 May 2021
This movie delicately captures how humans who are governed by fear not only rendered helpless, but are also transformed to alien versions of their former selves. What are the enduring repercussions of civil wars and dictatorships? What does life mean under these conditions? Is life a mere survival or do we stop living once our souls and spirits are crushed? Does a crushed soul and a defeated person stand a chance of living again? Can love survive military dictatorships?

This movie is an attempt to address all of these questions and its take is moving, heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time!

Mental illness makes its way to feelgood teen movies
28 April 2021
This movie is not a bad one if you just want an easy but not stupid watch. It's one of those teen dramas with all the expected elements of a broken family, an inner struggle, sickness and poverty. Yet those elements are kind of sanitized and beautified (Hollywood kind of sanitization). That's being said, it is refreshing to see serious mental illness being discussed in this movie genre. Acting was above average with a special appearance for Andy Garcia. The music was also enjoyable.

One particular thing I like about this film is the visual metaphor of schizophrenia as a black pigmentation bleeding into one's life. This smart metaphor was able to convey the altered mental state the protagonist gets pulled into and his loss of touch with reality.

This movie is a poem
25 April 2021
One of the most delicate and intricate movies I have seen in the past few years. The director's ability to capture human's vulnerability in such a tender way is remarkable. The movie asks questions about love, death, suicide and human compassion in poetic visual language and austere dialogue.

An ok movie with an amazing soundtrack
10 June 2019
The plot isn't the best, yet there are some good scenes addressing the modern obsession of being a perfect mother and interestingly also being the eternal bachelor. It's a good entertaining movie but the soundtrack is the best thing about that movie!
