Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019)
A Roadmap to a Better Life
No movie is perfect so let's just skip over critique of plot-character-whatever. Here's what matters most in regard to this film:
If you have ever had to recreate yourself--this movie is for you. If you have ever yearned to reach for a stretch goal--this movie is for you. If you have ever felt like there must be more to your life than you ever imagined--this movie is for you.
Brittany Runs a Marathon is an absolute roadmap to a better life.
All I Want for Christmas (2013)
Did she ever really learn her lesson?
I love fantasy Christmas rom-coms! And this one had all the right elements. But...
Here we have a self-absorbed biz exec who is forced to learn the true meaning of relationships at Christmas time. And in pops Calvin, Santa's magical elf, to help!
But did she ever really learn anything? Seems like all she got in the end still seemed, well...self-absorbed?
What we need here is a sequel. Force her to take her lessons learned to a deeper level.
Nah, that would make this too much like real life. Where's the fun in that? 😏
Christmas Wedding Planner (2017)
Huh? She did WHAT at the end?
Where can you find an ice skating priest? In Canada, of course! The most (un)memorable line from an oddly promising yet disjointed story line.
But, hey! Plot and character development be damned! Everything will work out in the end. It's Christmas, after all.
No spoilers here but the ending was truly melted icing on this piece of Christmas wedding cake. Yes, we watch cheesy holiday movies for the feel-good schmaltz but it's not a mood that can be forced--which is exactly what this movie ends up doing.
Better luck next time.
