First rate car chase and a nice plot
14 September 2007
There are few reasons to watch this well made action, thriller, heist, fun flick: 1) Awesome car chase in the streets of Prauge (Another reason to watch)that makes all those CGI look alike cry. 2) The restaurant scene which will make you want to eat those tasty looking dishes, while Omar Sheriff and Belmondo are having a witty dialog. 3) Belmondo over the top stunts, you have to see to believe. This guy was nuts alright. 4) Excellent as always, Ennio Morricone soundtrack. 5) The funny Ending.

If you are looking for a good 70's action fun, with some nice exotic places, with great car chase and good cast, go a head try it!

Bava magic
6 April 2007
I would like to use this comment to encourage movie lovers that are still not familiar with Mario Bava work, to step in and give him a try. Blood and black lace is a proof that Bava is a mastermind in the art of cinema, getting influences from Orson Wells, Fritz Lang and other great directors which shape the cinema we see today. Blood and black lace is known as one of the first giallos ever made, and responsible for the big Giallo productions in Italy afterwords. In blood and black lace Bava increased his abilities of photographing woman closeups to a level of amazing beauty, his mastership in portraits is so clear in that movie. The story is not the best part of Blood.. but bava know how to tell this story in an imaginative way with many twists that will make you stay in your sit, and I am not getting into the murder set pieces which are so disturbing and violent even for today standards. So all you cinema lovers out there, if you want to get excited from something fresh and unique check Bava work, because bava was one of the best directors in the cinema history and time will surly tell.

Give me one more chase please!!!!!
24 February 2007
There are 2 respected movies in the euro police movies that always shine above all the other great ones, the first one is in Fernando De Leo "La Mala Ordina", Part of his Milan trilogy films, with his extreme and fast paced chase that never let go and just keeps on going till the last brutal finish. The second one is blazing magnum's, which can be a very good lesson to all the action directors out there planing to do a one good chase sequence. There are 2 chases here, one in the beginning which is short but very efficient , and the second at the end, which you must see to believe, it got everything in it and more. I do urge you, the fans of this type of cinema to grab Blazing Magnumes if only for the chases that prove that you can do a bad acting movie with a simple thriller script, that still got some hard hitting sequences that shine overall. I can't finish without mentioning that the music is also a masterpiece in itself and it is always there at the right moment. If only Dark Sky/NoShame/Blue Underground or any other respected label will do us a favor and release a collector edition DVD, that would be fantastic!

Not enough from Damiani
2 October 2006
I really love Damiani movies, I think that he is the best director from Italy that deals with the Mafia and political crimes, in a very realistic approach. His movies are always an intellectual feast for the mind. Unfortently Perché Si uccide un magistrato is not the case. The movie is to say the least boring and long. The story idea is very interesting, Franco Nero plays a director whose last film foreseen the murder of a supreme judge. It is the old question of propaganda cinema, is it really effecting and makes a difference. But as the story evolves we meet so many character's and politician, that it is getting confusing at times and misses the point. Franco Nero is charming as usually but even his passionate acting could not lift this movie from his problems. I was also expecting for some Italian grim action, but I was disappointed to find non, and I mean it. I cannot recommend this movie, but I can recommend on 2 other political/Mafia movies of Damiano 1) "A confession of a police commissioner". 2) "A man on his knee". If you can put your hands on them you will be rewarded.

Slither (2006)

A very good sci-fi ride
2 October 2006
I would have given it 10 if it was original, but it's not. In any case it is a well made sci-fi movie, with plenty of blood, guts & gore to satisfy any fan of horror cinema. The story is a bit stupid, but if you like the 50's style of science fiction then you will love Slither, it got a blend of 50's stories and 80's gore. In some of the gore scenes I notice a resemblance to Stewart Gordon "From Beyond", for the use of plastic makeup up and plastic gore. The acting is fair with top notch part from actor Michael Rooker which doing his part as grant grant so professionally that I really think it is his one of his best acting parts.

What I like best about this little movie,is that it seems that the director and crew didn't took it too seriously. There are so many good laughs here that makes the viewing very satisfying. I really recommend this movie to any sci-fi or horror cinema fanatic out there, for a non stop ride.

Midnight movie at is best
23 September 2006
William Devane & Tommy Lee Jones stars in this revenge flick of a fugitive soldiers coming back home to find out that nobody gives a damn. William devane is surly making a wonderful acting in this movie and it is one of his best. Expect to see a very tough and unsettling piece of revenge cinema, in the vain of the 70's non politically correct era. It is coming in your face, the blood, the guts and the violent that is so precise. The final act is a fantastic action sequence that really needs to be mentioned in the cinema guild. An underrated piece of post Vietnam war movie that need to be seen more often, and need a collector DVD release.

Interesting Story with Sonny Chiba in command
6 July 2006
The Yagyu Conspiracy is an historical saga that take place in Japan on the 17th century. It is in fact a family tragedy. The story is well made and the movie is interesting, I even consider to learn some more on Japan history after watching this film, it may be of a use when watching samurai movies. I find it very important to learn about the countries that produce a genera cinema. Except from the story I find the movie a bit short on action, also the battles are too short and photograph from wide angle which makes it a bit hard to understand who are the bad guys and who are the good guys.

Sonny Chiba is doing his usually tough guy acting, and I love him for that, without him this movie would have been another non interesting samurai flick. It is sad that you don't see him as much on this long movie. Unless you are a sonny Chiba fanatic like me, don't buy it Rent it!

A well done thriller
25 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The reason for even watching this film is because of Hopkins appearance, which I find well acted. It got some hint of his future Hanibal pereformance in Silence of the lambs. Richard Attenborough direction is very surprising, the sets are amazing. The lake, that most of the film is taking place on, is so peacfull and makes the film more disturbing, also the NYC scene is done remarkebly well. I also love the film title scene which include some exposition about the magician in hand and also Corky (Hopkins) mentor, which guide him into the magician & performing abilities. The films itself is moving nicely along and the story is very interesting and gripping. The resemblance between Corky and Fats (The evil doll) is very convincing and as the movie move forward they are getting more and more alike, even dress the same.

The reason I am giving this movie 6 stars is because I find Ann Margaret acting unconvincing and also the last 15 min of the film is a bit boring for me, I think that it should end before. As a short story it would have been a pure masterpiece, but hey it was already done before and in a much more frightening way, so check out "Dead of night" and be prepered to be shocked.

Did I mention it is a masterpiece!!
23 June 2006
My first encounter with Tatsuya Nakadai, was in Akira Kurasawa Yojimbo & Sanjuro and from then forward it is history for me. Sword of doom is the 3rd movie I saw with Tatsuya Nakadai and I was blown a way. First of all for all of you that are interested in the Samurai genre, this is one of the best action movies of the genre and I will say also for myself that this is one of the best action movies ever. In any aspect of the cinema techniques it is a gem, the acting is superb, the B&W cinematography is over the top, the sets are so precise and the direction is genius. I find the story also very compelling and interesting. Toshirô Mifune is also playing a small part which add to the films action. And I am not going to mention the ending which is so mind blowing.

This is a movie for people who loves cinema, and wants to see something that is far better then any action blockbuster in today cinemas. Don't wait to long, just put your hand on this original gem, before it will disappears from the stores.

If you love it check out Goyokin, which is another one of those films that deserves more appreciation.
