The Grand Seduction (2013)
Strong Work from Committed cast.
A small fishing town in Newfoundland has weathered the hard times and lacks a doctor. When fate intervenes, a Doctor from the USA comes and the town has 30 days to convince him to sign on, so that they may try to get a proper business factory to get their town, and dignity back. Brendan Gleeson leads an outstanding cast of mostly local actors. Taylor Kitsch has one of his finest performances as the doctor. It's a wonderful little indie film and well worth your time seeking it out.
The Humanity Bureau (2017)
Crazy title hides what could've been a better movie but overall a thoughtful small indie worth a watch
Movies are made to be enjoyed and in general, "The Humanity Bureau" serves up a decent post-apocalyptic road movie. There's a decent, dare I say reserved acting job by Nicholas Cage in the lead. The supporting cast is solid with the plot actually interesting and it's easy to see why the film was green lighted, even if it was made in Canada on a shoestring budget. Given a bigger budget, some script tweaks and a title which doesn't scream "B movie," and there's a strong possibility more people would've actually heard of the film. All that said, the film stuck with me long after it was over and it is definitely worth watching, especially for the somewhat twisty ending. If you can find it for a low rental, or on tv or streaming somewhere, give it a look.
