Heavy Metal (1981)
Ultimate Male Power Fantasy
The animation is fine, but the script makes little to no sense. It seems like just an excuse for naked women to throw themselves at buff violent males, neither of with has been developed in the slightest. Plus the narrative thread connecting these vignettes together is contradictory to say the least.
All in all pretty boring. Although if what you want is some inconex violent scenes with sex thrown in for flavor, give it a go
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018)
Simple but fun
Sony animation, oh, boy. I must be hinest, I enjoy this franchise very much. I find them funny even if the scripts are veeeery simple, and te reason they are so enjoyable is the fact that Sony animation does one thing extremely well: animation. The cartoony feel of the characters reminds you of 2d animations, with the cartoon physics and overall sillyness. And the designs are between very pretty to look at and extremely original. I only wish they would hire better writers. It would bring SA to the big league of animation studios. But well...
HT3 was fun, mindless and predictive. It made chuckle a few times, the characters stay consistent, and there isn't really much more there. Just a Saturday afternoon flick
I Still See You (2018)
Good enough
Another one I watched for Richard Harmon. The cast is ok and the story fine. The concept is very interesting and the final twist you don't see comming. The finale was a bit convoluted for my taste, trying to wrap up too many loose ends too quickly. But all in all, a fun ride
Her Own Justice (2015)
What even is this movie
To be honest I only watched this because Richard Harmon was in it. And he was amazing, as always.
The stroy was fine enough until it reached the second half of the second act and it went crazy.
Charming (2018)
Can Hollywood please hire better scriptwriters?
The story was duuuuulllllllll. It had funny moments and references, but the character interaction was so forced. The story lacked well.... everything and enough already with these True Love stories.
The only redeeming quality to this thing was the art and the care put into little details like the pictures in the place's walls. The characters were no Disney, but nice to look at and the voice actors did a decent enough job.
Watership Down (1978)
Nice 2D animation, but nothing fancy
I watched the Netflix miniseries and thought I would give this a try. It didn't entrance me like the miniseries did: neither the music, nor the animation, nor the voice performance are that great.
The story is, of course and this is a much bloodier take than the mini series. But I liked the other one better
Smallfoot (2018)
Fun but pretty formulaic
This one goes the usual "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" route with a formulaic and a trodden "the good monster" trope.
It is still fun to watch, though, the animation is cute and the big foot mythology is actually pretty solid. It does wander into tropes many times and its script is, by no means original. Yet the music and performances are OK. The message cristal clear and maybe (hopefully?)a few parents will find themsel having to answer some difficult questions.
