What a delightful surprise
11 August 2023
I was skeptical after watching that what-in-the Hallmark-CWesque trailer that is, with Uma Thurman's accent stealing the whole thing, but that concern was fortunately unfounded.

I'm not going to spoil anything but it is a romcom so noone should expect this to be high art or bringing anything new to the genre since this movie in itself is already something new that has never happened before. In 2023 we finally have a great gay romcom. How hard can it be, Bros?

It's a shame that this doesn't play in the theaters (and Prime Video doesn't release this movie in some countries) but after watching, I wouldn't have anything cut just to appease the MPAA (and the gatekeepers).

This blew my expectations away and I have watched Heartstoppers season 2 last week!!!

Time just flew by
4 June 2023
By now you'd know if this type of show is for you. Erotic, steamy thriller soapy drama that you wish ABC primetime soaps to be, back when they're at its peak, not the cheapo garbage shows they have on currently. Haters will hate and yet they give 10/10 for the nonsensical Fast and Furious franchise and dumb superhero movies.

First episode started as predictable as you expect, but by the time of episode 3 rolls on, you'd book the rest of the time at home on your own sofa.

The main couple are drop-dead gorgeous, but that's not all, the plot, the scenery and the social commentary are all spot-on as well, which is a surprise since other Netflix steamy shows have never succeeded at being THIS good. For example: Toy Boy, High Heat, Sex/life, Obsession and even 365 days trilogy (and 50 shades movie).

Hope this movie is for you
4 June 2023
The trailer is very representative of the movie. Down-on-his-luck good looking fellow had a chance at stardom (and love). The plot is both cliche and yet probably true in real life.

The first half is well-grounded but the second half feels rushed. The music is good although it never reveals the background story of each song. Acting is uneven and the movie is a reminder not to eat too much processed food as most of the actors have warts.

It is what it said on the tin. It's not trying to be Once or Sing Street and no Hemsworth brothers could sing and star in these type of romantic movie, I'll take it. A wonderful lazy Sunday movie while you're sipping tea and having biscuits.

The cast gave it their all but without enough moolah it's doomed
25 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The underwater parts are very underwhelming especially if you have seen Avatar: The Way of Water or even Aquaman. It seems that the director needed to compromise for its VFX budget, the sea is barren and empty. Unlike previous Disney live-action projects this is the first one that's seemed underbudgeted.

The cast tried their best with what's given. Sebastian (and Ursula) steal the movie for me. Scuttle is alright although some people might find the bird very grating. Still, kudos to every single cast, they did really well.

The musical numbers needed more support visually. The first "Part of Your World" rendition lacks visual flourish while the Prince Eric solo needs to be supported by big musical instruments. Poor, Unfortunate Souls and Kiss The Girl are good.

Ironic that contrary to the "edgy" hate, this film is anything but. Very conventional, very safe.

Interesting....
26 October 2022
Having seen no trailer of this, I've decided to do some mix and match with The Cabinet of Curiosities and I like this better than the first 4 episodes of that show (Lot 36, Graveyard Rats, The Autopsy, The Outside). The monastery in this movie felt lived-in and authentic compared to the obvious movie sets in that Guillermo del Toro show. Although both of these are disgusting so try not to eat during it.

This movie started a little slow and obvious but there are twists and turns along the way to keep you going. Not much characterization beyond the 3 or 4 names that are mentioned in the movie but no matter, the plot (and the title) is what draws the viewer interest anyways.

As for the ending, yes they did go there. It's divisive for sure but I like it and I find it appropriate.

All in all, a decent watch for Halloween season. Much better than I expected and much better than those cheap Blumhouse horror flicks.

Not much happening and very very predictable
23 September 2022
It's not a 9 or a 10 or a 4 as most reviews indicate. I'm torn in giving this one a 6 or a 6.5.

Started off well but there's a lull after that and episode 2 is a disappointing filler that's why the premiere were 3 episodes. Episode 3 is by far the strongest so I'll continue watching. Heard that episode 5 will outdo episode 3 so can't wait for that.

Great production value, stylish and very retro-futuristic ala Star Wars but unfortunately the story is very predictable so far and it hasn't justify its own existence yet.

This is the best Disney+ original series to date IMHO although that's a low bar to clear.

Season 2 is better but Ru still playing favorites
18 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Season 1 is best forgotten but season 2 went off to a bad start with the first 2 episodes eliminating the wrong contestants, similar to season 1, favoring veteran/more well-known drag queens and cutting the young if given the choice. "Man gorillas" beating femme queens in femme songs don't compute, periodt.

Not sure why Australia's so-called drag legends did so poorly in the first few challenges they need to be saved from the chopping block.

A much faster-paced Toy Boy but with Firefighters
18 August 2022
It is what it says on the tin. Sizzling hot. No male frontal nudity, some female bosom. Episode 2-8 lots of X-tion, episode 9-16 more into the main plot - The (real) Butcher of Reynosa. Episode 17-25 feel like the main plot and a few others are climaxing soon and I think I'll watch some more due to really killer cliffhangers at the end of episode 24 and 25! However, the bad news is they should have continued to build up momentum and tension and finish the season strong at episode 35 tops! Instead the show's taking a detour yet again with the flashbacks for a character I don't care about....

For a telenovela the pacing is quick unlike the other soaps that I'm struggling with (The Marked Heart & Pasion de Gavilanes).

In the first few episodes serious scenes that move the plot that interchange into sex scene can be jarring. But this doesn't happen in later episodes when the main plot get into the main focus.

Overall I find it enjoyable and I can binge a lot of episodes in one sitting. A great weekday watch.

Love episode 1-6, not crazy about episode 7-10
5 August 2022
The show tries to juggle a lot of things and mostly succeed. I don't like the lighter tone of the Rose episodes which feels like any other TV shows but the first 6 episodes have that epic feel to it.

I think most people will be surprised of the amount of "wokeness" lol but that didn't make me enjoy the show less. I binged all 10 episodes in one sitting!

If the end scene is any indication, season 2 will be more like the first 6 episodes so I'm looking forward to it!

This is the best Netflix show since Altered Carbon season 1.

Surprisingly a good little horror show
5 August 2022
Was waiting for The Sandman to be released, turns out this is about dreams and nightmares too. I wasn't too fond of teen drama but surprisingly it is not as grating as most teen shows are. The fantasy/horror element is much more present here. It's much better than Neil Blomkamp's recent effort Demonic.

I devoured this 180 minute show in a single sitting. This is the yin to the Sandman's yang and I hope it gets a second season.

Degrassi Jr set in paradise
26 July 2022
Came because of the trailer, staying for the picturesque locales. The island setting is *chefs kiss*

The story is told from the teenager's POV, alternating between each episode. First episode is a supersized hour-long episode but it becomes 20-something minutes long after that. First episode did felt long but the next few episodes are a breeze.

Everything from the writing, acting etc is decent. Even the adult roles are well cast, even though they appear for only 2 minutes max per episode (with the exception of the janitor).

The story is predictable since it's for younger teens but they did throw something random every now and then to give a jolt when it needs it.

The show's apparent weakness is the lack of Pietro, since he's the most prominent in the trailer. He opens the first episode but by mid-season he's almost a background wallpaper. And this is very clear at the start of the penultimate episode. The side characters do get enough screen time but Pietro, supposedly the other main character beside Livia, didn't. Which is a shame since he reminds me of a young Tom Cruise.

Much much better than other teen shows, for example: Netflix's own Rebelde which I got recommended as soon as I finished this show. And if you want to watch bad teen acting the recent Resident Evil have plenty of that. And Pretty Little Liars reboot just being released, plenty of bad choices to be made.....H8Rs.*looks around*

Oh and this show got haters because it's PC (and wholesome).

Second half gets boring, action & production value can't save this
14 July 2022
First episode is decent with good action scene and great production value but quickly nosedives for episode 2 and 3. Episode 4 is the last of the decent episode with episode 8 being the most disappointing. The sequel bait won't work for most people who won't watch the second season.

Almost everything in this show is annoying, the writing, the acting especially bad for the teenage twins, the disappointing cliche bait for a second season etc etc. Do not waste your time with this. I give it 2 instead of 1 because it looks slick in the first 4 episodes at least.

Much better than all of the Resident Evil movies (and the new Netflix series)
12 July 2022
Although that's a very low bar to clear. The movie does have game-like stages. Good writing although probably more rewarding to Spanish speakers. And also there're a few deus-ex conveniences and you can pretty much guess who'll make it to the end bar one but that one person is for the usual wokeness brigade/cancel culture.

High production value given how cheap the last RE movie that costs 20 million dollars (after tax break) looks. Although the stretching of the budget is visible now and then. And Frank Darabont won't be happy with the zombie make-up but hey who cares, the movie is fast-paced and will end before you know it. That's entertainment!

Overall it's a decent watch and all of us zombie-genre lovers can breathe easier that this is not junk.

And please avoid the new Netflix Resident Evil series. 8 hours of my life I never get back.

I really wished this was better
28 June 2022
The trailer was so much fun. Such a shame that the middle part was messy and the dialogue+writing needed a lot of sprucing up. I wish the whole movie was as good as the end scene.

Didn't come close to reach the height of Edgar Wright's "Cornetto Trilogy" and the 2 main leads are no Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. But probably budget is the issue, it looked like a 2010 Syfy movie of the week at times. But VFX complaint aside, the 2010 vibe is a plus in my book since we don't get something like this anymore. Overall an ok watch if you don't have anything else.

Grown up summer cabin version of MTV's Awkward.
18 June 2022
A perfect summer show to be binged on a weekend. This is for adults though because there's swearing, sexual references and drug use. There's 2 storylines - the adult plot revolving around Justin and Maisie-May and the teen one with Billie and Killian although the second half of the show have episodic theme to it. Production value is high and everything looks pretty. Ulrika steals the show for me. And there's a surprise guest star on episode 4.

For some reason this show is ignored by MSM and so far only 3-4 youtubers bothered to review this with less than 100 views each. That's sad because THIS IS A GEM and there's not much comparison to this. I only know Awkward. From MTV that aired for 5 seasons in the 2010s. This show is what Amazon lacks, they have too many serious dramas but not enough comedy.

This is the kind of show that I can watch on a daily basis and wish summer never ends.

The Rumor is right
9 June 2022
Just rewatch the original UK or the (2000) US version on Showtime/Paramount+. If you subscribe to Peacock just skip to the last 3 minutes of episode 8/season finale and you'll see what this reboot is all about...

If you wish to be entertained there are Heartstopper, Love Victor, Young Royals and even Q Force (and most Spanish Netflix shows are inclusive). New very recent movies are Wildhood and Fire Island on hulu. The Lake is coming in a week on Prime Video. So plenty of options, just avoid this one. Bad juju.

No wonder some of the casts already released their products before this to steer clear of the stink.

New Gay Classic
3 June 2022
Finally another Gaysian story after a long time, last time it was The Wedding Banquet almost 30 years ago by Ang Lee which I owned on DVD.

Definitely feels like a passion project and thank God it turns out great, well done to the cast and crew. The semi-documentary and indie feel sometimes drag it down and the acting is uneven but they're all minor complaints.

A shame that it's released straight to streaming. Like Noah said in the movie, it feels like all the wrong things are changing......

Slice of life goodness
14 May 2022
Thank you Netflix for bringing this show for the world to see. This is something I have never seen before. Slice-of-life of running a dairy farm. I agree with the first reviewer here the first 4 episodes felt grounded and authentic and the second half is more dramatic and therefore less believable. I would prefer the season finale to be different but it makes sense given there'll be a season 2.

Hard to like
6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The premise seems interesting and the trailer sold me but the development from episode 2 onwards are going to be a tough sell. The reveals at the end of each episode is so overused it's a TV cliche. My roomies quit watching after a certain death at the end of episode 3 and just want me to tell them how it ends lol. The show (and the cult it's centered on) is so unlikable I'm rooting for the opposing forces to tear it apart asap lol. The good news is the second half (episode 5-8) has better content and development and didn't drag as much as episode 2-4. Unfortunately the ending didn't satisfy and therefore this show is doomed.

EDIT: Season 2 went full 3LITE, understandable since season 1 was so unlikable, they went for fanservice and hotter new cast member this time. Unfortunately they're not wrapping things up, a shame since Season 3 isn't happening.

WOWW This Milkshake is definitely better than yours
24 April 2022
Damn right it's better than yours. EASILY the best new Netflix show releasing this week beating out Russian Doll, Heirs to the Land, Hold Tight, The Marked Heart, and Yakamoz S245. It didn't have the usual TV cliche of slow pacing and then cliffhanger ending and this makes me give it a 10/10.

It's vibrant and refreshing. I wish I had this when I was in year 10-11 20 years ago. No R rated stuff like unnecessary drug use.

All hail the new king of LGBTQ shows.

Polar opposite of Crimes of Grindelwald but still lifeless
13 April 2022
If Crimes of Grindelwald had too much action with no breathing room this one is too slow paced and not much action. All the good bits are in the trailer. 4 dudes walked out in my theater within the first 40 minutes due to boredom.

They should have kept the focus on Dumbledore and Newt (and Grindelwald) the A plot instead of the B and C and D plots with Credence, Theseus and Jacob/Queenie.

The fantastic beasts stole the movie and that's one of the few pros on the movie. The ending of the movie itself could be seen as homophobic cliché.

I had no hope of Hollywood ever delivering a good LGBTQ blockbuster movie. In 2022 it's still a big fat zero.

Too short
3 April 2022
Non-Indian reviewer here. Been waiting for almost half a year for this movie. Is it worth the wait? Yes it is THE BEST Netflix movie that releases this week although I wish it's longer. Compared to CMBYN and Badhaai Do this one has a faster pace. Although this also means not much is explored deeply especially in the second half which things progressed too quickly until the ending. But the target audience like myself should be really happy and satisfied with this movie, it has almost everything I want in a gay movie. Just not a masterpiece, sadly. But this is easily the best recent gay movie since Operation Hyacinth.

A mess
12 March 2022
Woke version of Galavant meets Once Upon a Time....in a Spanish-speaking region First episode is good, however the middle part (ep 3& 4) are really dull, the musical parts that's in a different place/scenes actually brought down the show not adding to it, weak choreography with classic/well-known songs Too many characters and too many back and forth and the musicals in 30 minutes episodes, my head is spinning. The best part is the CGI dragon and Diego's silly tops that show off his body The show needs to choose if it wants to be Galavant or Once Upon a Time but not both, I guess the budget didn't allow that. The castle looks small and claustrophobic.

Another Lifetime-style thriller done on a Netflix budget, well at least it looks pretty....

Unfortunately the second half is an implausible mess, trying to have the cake and eat it too, the usual ALL white men are bad stuff so ubiquitous these days. Oh well, next!

Wayward Pines but with supernatural creatures
20 February 2022
The first episode started with a bang and successful in keeping my attention throughout, very good first episode.

Unfortunately not the case with the second episode, starting to have too many filler dialogues and the bad acting is more visible. Nosedives into SyFy territory.

Third episode slightly better than the second although I wish the town people talk more, they're quieter than even the quiet Finns. I know what to expect with Epix shows I've watched the slow-burn Adrien Brody starrer Chapelwaite. Overall still worth watching for the mystery. Just multitask when the fillers come up.
