Kumbalangi Nights (2019)
Slow boiler suspense emotional drama
The movie starts with the plot of 4 brothers who have the same father but from two different mothers. The story revolves around a dilapidated house in Kerala backwaters, which the youngest kid terms as worst house in village.
The camera work and cinematography is excellent and showcases the Kerala natural beauty in very picturesque way. The acting of all are tremendous.
The bitter sweet relation among brothers is well portrayed and would definitely make you sit up and take a note.
The small and minute emotion tugs of them are very relatable and shows many things which many times run in our mind ( may be) but we do not explicitly say.
The family of 4 brother seem to be running in all different directions, till 2 incidents happen. One a negative one with the eldest brother which turns the story of their life.
The other being one brother falling in love with a girl which brother in law of the girl very strongly objects.
The role played by Fahid is small and limited but has a punch and the actual flavor reveals towards the end of the movie. The suspense and end is predictable.
But the journey of the movie is what is enjoyable. I bet you would laugh, cry and relate to lot of small plots in the movie.
Kudos to the makers. May be the movie could have been tad shorter. But I loved the movie and its emotional journey all the while.
Vijeta (1982)
A movie much ahead of its time
A movie made much ahead of its time. The story, plot and delicate handling of a young guy and how he changes with his age. The portrayal of his inner characters and relationship with parents very delicately shown.
Also the old days airforce campus shooting is a bliss. It is very nostalgic to see the old aircrafts on reel of a mainstream movie.
They showed war so well too and aircraft dog fights were make believe too.
Surely a movie made way ahead of its time.
9: Nine (2019)
Sci Fi/ Horror/ Thriller/ Suspense: Upto you to decide
The movie starts with a imminent threat of a large meteor that is going to pass by the earth and causing some disturbance in Earth EM field causing about 9 days black out.
The movie sets its context well. An imminent scientist sets his foot to Himalayas to watch this spectacle for his scientific observation.
The comet comes, it passes and leaves a red trail on sky. And also changes a lot of things on ground. Some strange things starts happening.
So there comes a new girl who causes some strange things to happen around.
Well all this while the movie of different layer is unfolding, they also show the strained father son relation. Father's angst on his kid is shown in bits and pieces.
The movie ends open ended. So was Eva, the comet or Albert had split personality? Up to you to decide.
Good story line and nice and refreshing attempt in infusing sci fi- mythology and super natural suspense.
London Confidential (2020)
A decent espionage attempt lacked punch
The movie is a decent espionage movie which attempts a good plot. The welcome break from our regular enemy nation. This time the plot revolves around similar to Corona, aimed biological warfare by a different enemy nation.
The story begins well, despite having to see Mouni Roy who is much a sore sight acting and presence wise.
The story plot has lot of loop holes and gaps.
The twists and turns are good, but again could have been better.
Ending too would have been better.
Positive thing is we are openly talking about pain points of enemy nations are making us aware that its not us who have certain weakness.
But overall a good attempt for making a spy movie, that could have been better.
Sadak 2 (2020)
Pathetic and Banal
Not just the movie is script-less, meaningless, acting less but continues the same old bollywood majoritian bashing by showing some rougue baba. The madness is infiltrated every where. Every one is killing each other due to no apparent reason.
The over the top violence scene, gory is not just non adherent to story line but weird.
Please do not make some forced continuation series for sake of it.
Antariksham 9000 kmph (2018)
A brave CGI attempt meets brainless script
Heard a lot about this movie. And the initial part looked promising. The little bit of emptions were even ok in first half.
But more and more we get into movie it turns to be farce in name of sci fi movie.
So, an arrogant space coder who is also an astronaut, becomes last moment part of space crew for a recovery mission.
How? By not allowing sharing "code" he knew to the prospective astronaut whom he replaced at last moment!
Is it like some space institute or a B grade institute where code remains in developer's brain only and it goes with him?
Anybody heard about GIT/ SVN?
The director/ script writer seems to be a disgruntled IT engineer whose onsite opportunity got snatched by someone who did not share the code with him/ her.
So he/ she makes this movie a revenge ship for his missed onsite opportunity!
On flip of coin (almost) they change a higher orbit mission to lunar mission? Looks like they discovered nuclear power space crafts already? And they aim for a space craft lost 5 years back whose trajectory and position is unknown!
They do perpendicular dock in to ISS which is moving at 10 times the speed!
Add to that, funny ways how a person takes over a national space institute to fulfill his ego by claiming it to be country's mission! Over rides control and defies every possible protocol followed for a space mission.
The number of protocols and mockery of planning, programming and mission they showed in movie, I doubt that much of mockery one makes of one road trip plan also!
Please make a sci fi movie or a mushy mushy emotional pot boiler. Please don's mix both!
North 24 Kaatham (2013)
Refreshing watch
A road story of transformation of a person through series of events and a road trip. Very refreshing, although it touches upon few political elements and has a undertone of supporting the hartal/ band and communist regime.
Nice watch as a movie otherwise.
Mafia (2020)
Loose script based around a strong theme
The theme of the piece is indeed a strong message which it stands on. But the script and direction is haywire and is trying to do a lot. Sometimes with some unnecessary sleaze scenes or may be over the top abuse which felt out of place and for heck of it.
Acting of all patrons are not up to mark. The twists in story are very amateurish. The snatching of gun scenes are too funny and fail miserably as twist/ suspense/ action.
Most of the actors, especially the male actors looked very amateurish. Also the story plot is very loosely based on a strong theme which was loosely executed.
The script had a lot of influence from thriller movies we have seen in recent times. Lacked freshness despite a relatively fresh cast.
Could have been better.
